  1. where do you get the shuttle bus from? I didn't go last year but the year before that the parking was useless, i gave up but as i was driving away someone pulled out and i got a spot.
  2. You don't have to hold a breeders permit to own entire dogs, you only need it to breed from them. I own 2 entire bitches and as of yet do not hold a permit as i have no litters planned at the moment. The registration fees remain the same whether you have a permit or not. We do get a discount for being a Dogs Qld member. The council, in conjunction with dogs qld held a meeting last year to discuss the breeders permit. I personally found it quite good and there was a very clear message made that the rules and regulations in the breeders permit scheme were based on the dogs Qld code of ethics so provided a member followed the code of ethics they should have no concerns in being granted the permit. Earlier this year i had 4 of the council rangers in my street investigating reports of dogs attacking the cattle in the paddocks near my house, i was in my front yard at the time and got chatting to them and asked about the permit and about any changes i would need to make to my yard to be granted the permit. They all came into my yard to check it out. My home has a terraced yard, a covered patio area off the family room and a single attached garage off the patio area. I have a paved area adjacent to the patio area and then there are 5 steps down to a reasonable sized flat grassed area. I have removable fencing around the garden beds on the top section which prevents the dogs getting into the gardens and when i have a litter i have a fence and gate at the top of the stairs so the pups can't get down the bottom area. I have gutter drains around the patio which makes it easy to hose down. The garage has raised bench shelving so the whole area can be easily hosed out as well. I didn't have all the fencing in place at the time the rangers were here and the only bedding was for the older dogs not the puppy pens i set up. I explained that i raise the pups for the first few weeks in the family room of the house and then they go to the garage. All the rangers agreed that there would be no problems with the set up i have and they felt i would easily get a permit provide i had no objections from neighbours. They also said they didn't know of any applications from dogs Qld members that had been refused but they had had a few from non members.
  3. Mine like to garden when i go to work Before After
  4. I friend of my had a Lab a few years back that was down in her pasterns, although the pup was in good condition and receiving a good diet , she was diagnosed with a calcium deficiency for some reason her body just wasn't absorbing the calcium but after a few weeks of added calcium a her pasterns returned to normal and never had any other problems. i would start with giving him a good balanced diet with plenty of raw meaty bone.
  5. This is what i was told by the orthopaedic surgeon who repaired my Labs knee. I had been giving glucosamine to my dogs for years, when my girl had TTO surgery i asked about the dose i should be giving her now and his reply was to not waste my money, in the 20 years he had been a orthopaedic surgeon he had not found any proof that it is beneficial and a good general diet and exercise was of more value. After this my mother asked her spinal specialist on his thoughts and he said he felt it wouldn't do any harm but doubted if it really had any beneficial affects. I know of people who swear by it but you have to wonder if it is a placebo effect. PS, forgot to add, My mum stopped taking it in march and to date hasn't noticed any difference.
  6. so do mine, at times it looks like a congo line. With out a doubt a dominance thing around here.
  7. My lab Lucy is almost 14 weeks post TTO surgery. She had ruptured both cruciate ligaments and almost destroyed the cartilage as well. The specialist said it was one of the worst he had seen and used her x-rays and photos of the surgery as examples during a talk he did at a conference. I am amazed at how quick her recovery has been, she only has a slight limp now and it's only after she has been for her walk. I was familiar with the recovery from the older style of surgery and was prepared for weeks of cage rest but she only had to be cage rested for the first week then she was only restricted to the house and outside for toilet breaks and a 5 minute wander. At the 4 week mark she started walks on the beach to help strengthen her muscles and some swimming. My only problem was i also have 2 younger labs and the 3 of them tend to play pretty rough so she had been living with my parents during her recovery. Luckily she a very laid back dog and was very content to sleep her days away which meant she actually had very few restrictions put on her. At 8 weeks she was given the all clear to resume normal life but i choose to leave my with my parents for another month only having her at home when i was there so i could make sure they didn't play rough. Now at 14 weeks she's home and fit as a fiddle. The whole thing hasn't been cheap but well worth it, i couldn't be happier with the results :D
  8. Yes that is true, but it doesn't work because I've tried it. I was told it had to be unsweetened pineapple juice, just add a couple of tablespoons to the meal. Everyone i know that has tried it says it works and it certainly worked for one of mine.
  9. Any improvement this afternoon? Come on Opal get well soon
  10. Any update from the vet yet. Lucy sends her big hugs
  11. Don't quite understand why you can't let your pup on the grass surely you, your other dog and any other member of the family would at time walk on the grass then on the pavers so what ever you are worried about being on the grass is more than likely on the pavers as well. I would suggest if you want your pup to use the grassed area to toilet in the future then you need to start teaching it to go there now.
  12. That is so funny Thanks for sharing
  13. I have had a girl do this as well, all she would eat was tinned cat food (Fish variety)
  14. just beautiful But yes we need more photos
  15. I agree, i think their name is the thing that will stop them being recognised as a purebred.
  16. Someone commented on yellow Labs once with " I didn't know Rottweilers come in white"
  17. Don't stress, she may simply not be ready yet. I have a bitch which wasn't ready until day 19. She had 2 matings at days 19 and 21 and popped out 11 pups.
  18. the salt water can be good if they they skin problems. Mine get totally water logged after a trip to the beach and i never bath them afterward.
  19. I have found the best thing for hotspots is listerine, clears them up in no time.
  20. we often have fireworks going off around here, thankfully mine just sit and enjoy the show but i do feel sorry for those that are frightened. Last year someone set off a firework display in the park behind me and the dogs and i sat on the back steps to view it all.
  21. It depends on what council area you live in. I'm on the gold coast and it's 2 dogs for land 600m2 and over, under 600 then only one dog. Breeders require a council permit to breed but still only max 2 dogs unless you apply for a permit for more.
  22. I was having the same problem with the 60mm 2.8, my friend suggested i up the iso and use a faster shutter. It has helped. I was only having focus issues with doing macro shots, others were fine.
  23. they are on the main site just not on the forum
