  1. Aspirin is safe for dogs, i always have a box of bayer aspirin in my cupboard.
  2. I got my last lot from www.Pet-tags.com. They are a Sydney based company and i have had the tags for about 2 years and they still look great and don't look like wearing out for a while yet.
  3. I was doing a search on vacs and saw this post. My Wertheim is in at the repair place at the moment but it might not be repairable. ( ) I have found it fantastic for vacuuming up Labrador sheddings. I might have to buy a new one and am wondering about another Wertheim or switching to Dyson. I had a look at the Dysons in a store today (I want a motorised head) and I was not all that impressed. I was looking at the DC23 and it seems so clumsy with the thick handle. Maybe I could get used to it if the other features were good enough. I also thought it had too many bits sticking out, ie was not a very streamlined design and thought these might catch on things as one vacuums. There is a new Wertheim bagless out for $300 less so I am considering that. It has a power head and like the Dyson, requires no replacement bags or filters etc. I was wondering if anyone here might have had experience with both brands and could say which they think is better. Is the Dyson suction really that good etc? I have the dyson DC23 with the turbo head and my only regret with it is that i didn't get it years ago. Best i have ever had. I have a dark blue rug in my lounge room and with 3 yellow Labs with gets covered in hair, the dyson sucks it up with out any effort. It's great with the cat hair as well. Best money i ever spent. Makes cleaning a breeze.
  4. I spoke to a friend today and he has both the canon 60 and the 100 and is going to lend them to me to try out so i will let you know what i think.
  5. Great shots, will have to give that one a go with my lot.
  6. I would be giving chicken as well, i've never heard of boiled beef for a tummy upset. Hope the pup in soon on the mend.
  7. Thanks kja, i just had a look at those and i see what you mean about the price difference of the IS. The other 2 are certainly more to the price range i was thinking.
  8. I'm thinking of buying a macro lens for my canon 450 but after having a look online i am totally confused  . There seems to be a huge range. I'm still very much a beginner so i really don't understand all the number that they quote. The more i read the more confused i get. I need the help of the DOL brains trust here. What should i be looking for? I know i want something that will give me a shallow DOF so should i be looking at 2.8. HELP
  9. My Labs will also eat and enjoy anything but i use chicken chunkers and cheese as my training treats and they never get them at any other time. At 2 i would expect that you should have fairly good control of her but if you are not confident that she will listen to you once off lead then you really need to listen to yourself and not go there until you really feel she can be trusted. Keep working at it, you may even need to work her on a long line so she gets some freedom but you still have some control. Please drop into the Lab tread, there are a few there with younger Labs and we often talk about training tips.
  10. I wish :D I have had a Lab that was pretty close to 100% ( well i think she was ) She was obedience trained, always walked on a loose lead, good recall (except when she knew she was in trouble, then she had the best down stay ) not food aggression (anyone could take food from her mouth) never stole food from the kitchen or the other dogs, loved her time in her crate, loved car rides but would whine due to excitement when we arrived at shows, was never a barker but boy could she dig, i should have hired her out for excavation work I guess it all comes down to what you think is bad about the behaviour. I don't think there is such a thing as perfect, humans are always finding fault in something.
  11. this is copied from the Lab club of QLD site National Labrador Retriever Breed Council (Australia) POSITION STATEMENT 21st April 2010 Silver Coat Colour The National Labrador Retriever Breed Council (NLRBC) is an officially sanctioned representative body responsible for dealing with any and all issues that may directly affect the integrity of our breed throughout Australia. A significant and important function of the NLRBC is to directly interact with and provide advice and make recommendations to the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) on all matters that it regards as significant. The improved and ongoing health, structural soundness and welfare of the Labrador Retriever breed is a primary focus of the NLRBC as is the conservation of the original breed function – that of a “working” retriever. To this end the Internationally recognised “Breed Standard” (first developed in England in 1916) remains in force to this day. An important part of that breed standard describes the three acceptable coat colours. Black, Yellow and Liver/Chocolate are the only recognised coat colours in our breed. Any diversion from these three standard colours indicates a cross breeding combination may have occurred. Disturbing evidence has now been uncovered which suggests that some unscrupulous breeders in Australia may be considering promoting a new coat colour to unsuspecting Australian Labrador puppy buyers – Silver (or Platinum or Charcoal). This concept is not new – for some years in the USA and more recently in New Zealand so called Silver Labradors have been pedalled by “backyard/designer dog” breeders as being rare or unique. Not surprisingly this advertised rarity comes at a significant price both financially to the buyer and in health concerns to the individual dogs concerned. The sad fact is that these Silver Labradors are cross bred dogs – the result of crossing a Labrador Retriever with a Weimaraner. Genetically these crossbred designer Labradors are at high risk of inherited structural and health defects. Neurological disorders such as epilepsy are widespread amongst “Silver” Labradors due to the inbreeding that is required to maintain the unnatural silver coat colour. These dogs also suffer debilitating skin and thyroid problems. It has also become evident that significant numbers do have problems with hip and elbow dysplasia due to generations of breeding from “untested” breeding stock. The NLRBC has issued a Silver Coat “high alert” to all State based member clubs around Australia. If you require more information or you wish to report the activities of a suspected Silver Labrador breeder please contact the Labrador Retriever Club in your home state. They will be more than happy to assist you with your enquiries.
  12. NO there are no silver labs they are crosses
  13. Edited to add I use the suspension at 2 weeks then tablets from then on, mainly because the suspension is so fiddly and messy, they hate the stuff and it's so hard to really know if they get the correct dose. Will be tablets from now on.
  14. Big waggers here too and if you take note you will find they wag it in different ways for different reasons. Like the 'i didn't do it mum' wag where they keep the tail low and wag just the tip or the Im really really pleased to see you round in circles wag. And yes Labs lead filled tails are deadly for coffee tables.
  15. I'm a bit of a nufftie when it comes to lenses but the IS stands for image stabiliser, can't help with anything else but will watch this tread to learn.
  16. Repel x is the only one i have found any good
  17. i get my meat from a local wholesale butcher, i get the hamburger mince for $4.50 a kilo, they sell pet mince but i find it has to much fat in it but the hamburger isn't to fatty at all. I can't feed kangaroo doesn't seem to agree with my oldest girl, going straight though her
  18. I have just finished a tafe course and the first 3 weeks were all in the classroom learning aperture, exposure etc the fourth lesson was a night photo shot and it was like the lightbulb going off in my head, it all started to make sense. I have only been using my camera on the manual setting ever since.
  19. Happy 1st birthday Archer. He such a beautiful boy, and Leia is so photogenic.
  20. I plan to get the dogs to the beach on the weekend to wear them out and then i might be able to practice with them. I tried the cat but she woke up with the first shot and promptly turned her back on me. It was a cheap $10 torch, i am going to see if i can get one with more of a white light as this one seems a bit yellow.
  21. Thanks for the comments, it's so additive i could have spent many more hours taking shots but the wind started to pick up so i had to abandon it. I actually got the idea from the challenge, most people in the class are doing an object but i got bored and thought this might be a bit more challenging. I have a few ideas for shooting inside. Just wish i didn't have to go to work then i could spend more time on it.
  22. This is a couple i took the other night
