  1. You work in a vet clinic though don't you? So that's a bit different. I know our building management would never let dogs in. I asked when my Viz was little and got a resounding no.
  2. My vizsla wears his coat 24/7 this time of year. He would freeze to death otherwise. The Velcro comes undone if there is any pressure on his neck, so no chance of him getting stuck.
  3. I'd be paranoid too if my dog ate rocks  Crazy hound you have. Glad Zig is fine. Diesel reacted similarly after a wasp sting. Emergency visit on a Sunday after hours!!! Dogs have the best timing.
  4. Hockz, they aren't that tough! My dog killed a fireplug and two Leo's in a day. He's never been able to destroy anything else. The everlasting treat ball is still in fact.
  5. To be honest I wouldn't get a coat unless you know he is cold and a pup will kill the coat. I have one dog who wears two at once in winter (he cries and shakes and gets cold ears and feet) and another who has only just started feeling the cold this year. He doesn't even have his own coat! Depends on the dog.
  6. $122 for a 12.5 kg bag every 2-3 months plus bones etc.
  7. Petbarn has the bin special on a regular basis. I think we now have six lol. Love them and prefer them to the royal canin ones. I just topped up on food last week so dont need more for months.
  8. To put those costs into perspective too ... I'm given a $10 voucher for every $500 I spend in Pet Barn. I get those vouchers nearly every 2 to 3 weeks! Good lord! How many dogs is that for? I could never spend that much my dogs dont need that much stuff. Its taken me16 months to get my 10th free bag of food. Ive had two $10 vouchers.
  9. My dog is allergic to most types of grass... October to end of March he's a mess. Im saving up to take him to a specialist for tests. Hes stopped itching and his coat is coming back so hes good for now! Dunno what id do if he was allergic to moths lol.
  10. I agree with trying for an assistance dog as itll take some of the stress out of it for you :) However mum got a lab pup yesterday and she is ace. Knows where her bed is and is starting to get the hang of sit too. Very clever dogs.
  11. it's quite far but thanks for your reply, Inka!! will keep that in mind :) Dmayma, according to google map, Box Hill Veterinary Hospital is only 2 minutes drive from my place!! i have never noticed it there! thank you!! thanks Cosmolo! will keep this in mind! hawthorn east is only 10min from my place, maybe I should go there for the PPS class! :D You wont regret it if you do. Cosmolo is awesome :)
  12. We used bungee cord wrapped round it.
  13. I forgot. Bundy steals and hides tissues. He took an unopened pack outside and removed the tissues and ate them the other week (and my physio tape). Last night i popped some in my bag before going out and stupidly put my bag on the floor. Nothing was amiss until i couldnt find my tissues while out. I got home to find bits of them in the previously clean hallway. I wish i knew where he stashes them.
  14. Good idea Anne. I think ill do that even if it just makes me feel better :)
  15. We had a clamshell, he wont use it. Hes a good boy, he is very patient about being stuck inside :) I think this bothers me more than him, he doesnt seem stressed about it. He got addicted to cortizone late last year so i try not to use it as a preventative. Im picking up a cool coat next week so i hope thatll help. I think this dog will send me to the funny farm.
  16. He has been on Avil the antihistamine for a while and its not helping so id been keen to hear what you use SL. I really think keeping his body temp down will help. We are about to go into 10 days over 30... Stupid melbourne. We go to the beach fora week soon you can be sure thatll help as he will barely leave the water!!
  17. 2years ago my Vizsla developed what we thought was grass allergies. It starts in October and ends about March when the seasons change. He would scratch until he bled so we managed him by keeping him inside 24/7 pretty much and various creams etc. On his bad days the weather would be really hot, and he would be very hot to touch. This year he is worse, he has bald patches. It is also a hotter summer and we have noticed on cool days he barely scratches but when its over 28deg he goes nuts scratching. Last night was bad, so humid and this morning he feels like hes on fire hes so hot to touch, particularly where he itches. He isnt panting or distressed, hes playing as normal, he is just hotto touch and theres a huge difference between him and our other dog when you pat both. Its got us wondering whether all his scratching and rashes etc might actually be partially caused by heat. Its almost like his body doesnt cool him down too well or something. Hes been to the vet a few times this year as we thought he had a temp and wouldnt stop itching but he was fine and we are all scratching our heads. The heat is the only common factor with his bad days. At the moment the vet isnt seeing the need to investigate further, he has suggested towels on him during hot days to see if that helps but its not practical when we work all day. Im wondering if it could be worth trying a cool coat or similar for him to see if it helps? Aloveen cream draws the heat out of his itchy patches and helps a bit so just need something for his whole body. He gets aloveen baths and cream, cortizone cream and tablets (if desperate). Calendula tea baths didnt help either...
  18. So sorry Ripley, i loved seeing the photos of Millie with your parrots. It's such a shock to lose them so suddenly.
  19. Bundy licks his feet when he comes inside after being out in the rain.....
  20. Massive hugs to you and Rboi... Charlie is a special boy and he will never be forgotten. He will leave his pawprints in your heart forever.
