  1. my lovely neighbour jen, has a 10 month old cav, who is constantly at the vets, she nearly lost her a few months ago to pnumonia (sp) the vet thinks the throat, palate etc is ok, checked when desexed, but thinks its the hairs inside ( not sure where), not sending the mucas to the right place. she breathes heavily, and goes a couple of weeks before getting very sick, needing antibiotics . the vet has advised her to go to a specialist for surgery( camara one), but that it may not be curable anyway. she has spoken to her breeder, who has never had any problem like this. anyone had anything like this ?
  2. i walk my 3 together, and they know their position, as i am locking the front door, they swap to get in their spot ready to go. i have my dally and cattle one side, my wei the other. i keep the leads short, so they can't cross in front. however i do understand, i know 2 gsd"s who cross in front and behind me to trip me up if i allow to much lead length try shortening the leads, so they are next to you, perhaps just 2 at a time to start with.
  3. my wei has developed a skin problem too. vet has given him cortisone, and malaseb. his front legs are really pink and scabby, and he feels really warm. and yeasty smell. neither seems to be working, she has done a scrape ,and no mites. i think it could be food. up until a few months ago i fed them all supercoat, then got a donation for the rescue's from purina one, so have been feeding him beneful. if i change back, how long will it take to show up?
  4. just got back from walking my wei, and he must have cut his rear pad on something out running around. its dripping blood, not pouring, but still dripping. should i take him to vet? or will it stop of its own accord, do they stitch pads? its a straight line across the pad, must have run over something sharp.
  5. ;) kamuzz. they do look good, can you fit 2 to one bike? so you had one each side. visions of being dragged off into distance when cat jumps out
  6. update. lump went down after a few days, had been to see blair at quakers hill ,who thought it could have been a salivary gland, which he had knocked.he said it should go down, it did. but 2 days ago it started to get bigger again so this morning we went back, it is the size of my hand, and had started to seep blood. he took a needle to it, and lots of blood came out, but not oozing gunk or anything. so he is going in tommorrow for surgery to see what it is. he seems to think it could be a grass seed which is causing a problem, or done damage bit worried for my big man, just hope its ok when he opens him up, he hates the vet and cries the whole time he's there
  7. twice this week i have come across this, and need advice . i client of mine adopted a rescue 8 months ago, she has asked me to look after her for 4 days while they go away, so she brought her round for a "meet and greet" with my boys. "trikki" is 10 months old, bcx kelpiexcattle. i suggested the 5 acres behind my house, sent her round first, and then took my 3 round, let them off ,one at a time, they had a sniff, then mine went off, playing and sniffing. "trickie" spent the whole time hiding behind the husband, who kept bending down to pat her, and at one point picked her up i tried to explain, to keep walking and ignore her, that he was rewarding her for being scared, and that if he was relaxed she would feel secure? he kept doing it  was this the right thing to do? any advice? at soccer yesterday, a swf pup, sat behind us, and everytime a child, another dog, or anything else scary walked past it lunged barking and snapping the owner kept bending down and patting it, surely this is rewarding the dog for its behavior? what should they be doing? at one point a small child( 2/3) came to pat my dally ,( dad asked first), my boy sat and was happy to be patted, then licked her smack on the face but they then went over to the swf, who backed away, owner picked it up and forced it toward the child any advice on what they should have been doing?
  8. i use sentinal too, but also keep some capstar for new arrivals who arrive with guests on them
  9. petshops have them, small pack is around $12. but only for 2 litres. big packs are around $32 i think, but you get loads more.
  10. thanks, won't be going near the animal hospital again, he's already been, had blockage on a bank holiday, and only place open, they were rubbish, and it cost me $2,700 it has definatley only just appeared, its really big and solid, i would have felt it before i'm sure :p just deciding where to go, may use the dch vet at quakers.
  11. sheba is away until the end of april and met her stand in a few weeks back, when appollo had a sore eye, and was not impressed. anyone else good to go to, zammit? had forgotton about lure coursing, are you going?
  12. last night i noticed my dally, appollo had a lump in his neck. its right under his jaw, in the loose skin, but the size of my cupped hand, and hard i'm sure i would have seen it before, now i'm worried its a growth, but could it be a bite? gave him a dose of antihistamine last night, but still the same this morning. given him another dose. any advice
  13. i have dog rocks, and they do work. they have started doing a bigger pack, as the basic one is only for 2 litres of water, which is useless for 3 big dogs you just put them in the water bowl, i think they last 3 months.
  14. so sorry cc, he truly was a stunning dol dog sure we'd all love to see some more pics of the beautiful boy again. take care. :D
  15. yep, feed it my dally, as he has had stones before, and i can't afford hills etc! he has trouble digesting purines. so i was recommended this. he gets fat on it though so not much is needed!
  16. i have used polarmine on my wei, he swelled up one day after being out for a walk, bubbles everywhere, face swollen, rang vet ,but surgery was closed till later, nurse recommended it, gave me dosage, within 20 mins he was fine again.

    Barking Puppy!

no thats oz in my avatar ( my pound pup i couldn't let go, and the one that made me love the breed ). he is very submissive, scared of new things, very friendly to people, sits down in front of you and just loves pats. but does "go off" at other dogs he see's. am taking him out and about to get used to as much as poss.but yes i agree, more unsure of himself, thats why he does it. he is happy and confident at home with my boys, just needs more socialising . took him out for a big walk this morning with mine( normally leave him, was waiting for his vaccs ), and he is now crashed will take him out tonight with them too.

    Barking Puppy!

thanks for the advice i can't crate him in the garage, as oh keeps his motorbike in there, and leaves at 4.30am, so that would wake him up. its also that even when i am up, he just barks generally alot, the slightest sound he hears etc, so it is ongoing. he is just very alert! by 3 have got used to the noises, and the odd other dog in the distance barking, but this guy hasn't, he has been here 2 weeks now. i suppose its just that we live very cloe to each other here, and his breed isn't suited to it. not his fault. ;)

    Barking Puppy!

yep, think there is a bit too much kelpie hiding in there! they all live outside, so crating isn't really an option, and would be tricky to find a new owner who would do this, i presume he will be an outside dog too. i do know someone with a bark collar, just wasn't sure he was too young? i did foster a bc once, and it did the same, at the crack of dawn he was raring to go too need to check they are full cattle next time
  22. scooter is my latest foster. he is a 5 month old cattle x, and i reckon kelpie is in there he barks at ozzie to play with him, problem is, it starts at around 5.30 am so i have to rush down to tell him to stop, he looks at me ,then carrie's on! this goes on all morning, and we live in suburbia, and he is waking my kids up, as well as my neighbours he has lots of toys, in fact i have never known a pup so active, oz does play with him alot, but he just doesn't stop. he is very submissive to me, rolls over when i go outside. any ideas on how to stop this barking? does the old trick with a water squirter work? he is really driving me mad, i presume he is too young for a bark collar? i am at my wits end, and certainly can't adopt him out like this, he will just come straight back
  23. so whats funny? i wouldn't drink water with vinegar in it.
  24. i was wondering about this too. mine only get fed once a day, but are constantly on the scrounge for food on our walks in the morning( although my wei would eat paper ,he's that food obsessed). thought it might settle them down a bit, might try giving them a handfull early, before we go out. ;)
