  1. i think it depends on the dog and the breed, we have a few bc's round here, and they never seek out other dogs ,they are always looking at their owners. i have 3, my dally is not really interested in other dogs, spends his whole walk head dowm in the long grass waiting to spring a hare ( or fox as he did last week) he may say a quick 'hello' if a dog approach's .but normally he looks up ,and then just carry's on. my cattle loves to play with his friends, but he is rough, he herds them, stalking and rushing, so i only let him play with dogs we know, as its a bit offputting my bt loves to say hello to new dogs, but is scared if they get too keen, and full on, and he avoids them. they do play at home, wrestling, but i think its a good social thing for them to meet new dogs.
  2. thanks he lives out 24/7, but spends most of the time fast asleep on a bed, only moving to wee, eat and change beds, so putting it on last thing would be fine. i did look at something called "mushers secret" going to see if my mum can bring some over from the us, but will try the paw paw first.
  3. mason keeps spiltting his front pads, the front 2. its making it really hard to walk him and get the weight off as he limps. i try and keep him on the pavements, as that is better for him, i have nothing rough at home, only patio and soft grass. they split right down the middle, but are also red inbetween the toes, i have tried putting on ilium cream that i have. should i take him to the vet? can they do anything? he isn't a very well put together bully, he "dish's" at the front when he walks. bootie's?
  4. could you just put a couple of bricks in the gap for now? i have the same fencing here, retaining wall with 6 foot wooden fence on top, on a slope, there is one spot where i can see a small gap, same as yours, i have a house being built atm next to me, after 9 years of nothing being there, i know the new owners have bunnie's, and don't like dogs , they told me, so will be making sure they know to check the fences for gaps, but i will put a few bricks along the ones i can see this side.
  5. hey, big hugs to you , you did a good thing, the owner may not have had a chance to say goodbye if it wasn't for you, and come home to a dead dog.
  6. i can't believe she is giving money to a vet who told you to leave it  well done, hope she does keep them apart now. :D
  7. don't worry, you weren't to know, and you could have saved its life it could have bled to death if you hadn't looked over, well done, hope its all ok. :D
  8. i agree, if your not game enought to jump over, call a ranger to do it :D could still be alive.
  9. i agree k9. just looked at the bp thread and there are tons of young pups in there and lots of pens with 5 or 6 dogs in them don't know how you go there all the time, big hugs to you
  10. another reason bp should vaccinate when they arrive like hp does, feel sorry, as he was penned with other pup s by the look of it, so they would have been at risk aswell good luck, hope he makes it
  11. i think its a great idea, too many people know nothing about rescue and where to get one from ;) they do it in the states, my sister got her last dog over there , the rescue takes a few dogs on a saturday to the store, and they still have to be screened before they can adopt. ;) we have a petstock near us, would be happy to take rescue dogs up for people to meet.
  12. being on dol has given me the opportunity to foster and rescue breeds i may never have considered , other dolers dogs i have met have changed my views too ( now a big fan of rottie's, thanks to reddog ;) ). my next dog will be a rescue, either cattle, or grey, again both breeds i had never considered before i fostered them through dol, although will always own a bully too ;) ) i am now a lover of older dogs too, no hurry to ever get a pup again.
  13. danois. you always take time out to help dolers, anyone who doesn't take your advice is crazy well done, again ;)
  14. i have a small yard ,( due to the fact i stuck a huge pool on it ), with 3 dogs, and they are fine. mine get walked twice aday, and sleep most of the time during the day. you could get 2 clams, one with sand one with water? i also have astro turf on mine as grass didn't grow much.
  15. i have a dally who stone forms :D he is now on optinum chicken and rice, with a wing for brekky, and 2 necks with the kibble for tea, its really good for putting on weight too, mine needs to lose some :D
  16. if they thought you were liable they would have been round asking for the whole bill, they know its not your fault. get something as a token jesture, or go direct to vet and offer a small amount....not $1000
  17. i wouldn't be paying anything, after all ,the worst injuries were the breaks, caused by the dog getting its foot stuck/caught on the fence, which could have happened anytime in the future ,spooked by anything. the puncture wounds were minor, and not even confirmed. simple accident, can't believe people here expect you to cough up a grand for this :D is everyone else here rich
  18. i just discovered mason has very mucky ears! i sat down on the grass next to him with some cotton buds, and gently tried to get as much gunk out as i could, but after a while he had had enough. there is a lot ( dark brown stuff) much further down, and i don't want to irratate the ear, is there anything i could put in to loosen it up? or should i take him to the vet for a good clean? thought i might do a little bit each day, but not sure i can get further down? any tips?
  19. i agree, if you pay it will look like you think your dog was at fault i would play safe, and ring council, just to get them to log it, so if they do get difficult later, you have already put your side first. then explain that they need to puppy proof the bottom of the fence if their dog is going to come under it.
  20. link won't work for me either, i thought daddy actually belonged to a rapper, and he just stayed with ceasar when he was away? i thought he was a lovely dog
  21. think it should be in the bt breed standard they all do it
  22. so is $10,000 to come on its own? still the same if it comes as baggage with someone travelling here? just curiuos
  23. last week i had kids knocking on my door with a little dog they found ( they always come to me )i had just finished work, had to walk mine and really couldn't be bothered, but the dog was in an awful state, a little silky x, so matted it was dreadlocked in places so i drove it to the vet to check for a chip, no chip, vet nurse said she would shave him off he was so bad ;) so i checked he would go to hp, and left. later that evening a lady came to my house asking me if i had her dog, she let it play outside ,didn't think it was a problem ;) 3 times i told her the dog was in such a bad state i thought no one owned it, no response i told her which vet it was at. i then took mine out for a walk, walked past her place and the little dog came rushing out, she came out and told me she got him back, hope the vet nurse told her off, at least he had been half clipped, so must be happier
  24. i agree bully, since having mason i have noticed people either rush over to see him, ones that know what he is, or give him a wide berth or say rude comments couple of kids last week asked me if he was a pit. "he's a solid boy" i got this morning off someone i am wary of being followed home, some workmen were asking about him the other day, i told them he was a bit deaf, bit blind and scared of other dogs, just in case ( which is all true). we have another one round here, dark brindle, but do seem to get them in blacktown pound regularly , which is where mase is from.
