  1. parklea markets, huge pet store, lots of kennels. you are only 45 mins drive away. i just bought one off ebay, huge for $40, you have a look see if any have the "buy it now" option, or are just finishing. ;)
  2. my cattle dog does it too, also jumping at your nose and snapping, and i can always tell when he will do it he smiles too
  3. i have vinyl, although my dogs now live outside i also had the whole house in the uk done when they lived inside. there are very different qualities, and styles, some of mine look like marble, others wood with different borders. i have 10 different ones in my place
  4. for the rspca i thought keeping 100 wasn't bad, then i realised they were cav's etc, good rehome prospects, more cash in, bet if they were 140 greys not that many would have made it
  5. so greys don't have to be chipped atm? didn't know that. nic, agree totally with your post, hp do get a fair amount of the greys out if they can, i have fostered 6 from there, all great dogs. i was there one morning when a trainer turned up with 4 littermates, A,B,C,D. their names they need to be more accountable for breeding so many and offloading so easily. ;)
  6. i have been observing this recently after adding a new member, he is an 8 year old bt, very calm boy. ;) we have 3 kennels outside, one a huge igloo, which can fit my other 2 in easily, and they do sleep in it every night. however new boy ( mason) has taken a shine to it :D he lays in it stretched out, neither of the other 2 will go in, although ozzie my young cattle will sit right outside it, i am assuming he is waiting for him to get out? or is he trying to intimaidate him out? by morning, the other 2 are in the igloo and he is in one of the other kennels.
  7. i thought the same too, will they just go to the vets, by passing the pound? or can they get around it by surrendering them still? i think it is still cheaper for them to surrender than pts, so will go this way if they can. i too am worried it may make things worse.
  8. great story molly and i have learnt a bit more about boxers, just thought they were loopy :D will hold them in a much higher regard i think my dogs are a deterrant, but wouldn't rely on them. when i lived in the uk on a remote road i often got people stopping to ask for directions, amazing how they suddenly stood back when i opened the door holding onto a bt, little did they know she would welcome them with open arms
  9. a vet told me human ones didn't work on dogs
  10. do you have a good relationship with your neighbours? could you go round and explain they are only young, and it will get better, and find out when they bark? some people are less tolerant than others , but you may have a cranky neighbour if push came to shove, i would debark mine as a last resort if it got that bad, i am very aware living in suburbia, ontop of each other of keeping the peace, its not easy
  11. i looked into it all recently as my dally has djd. basically discovered jointguard had msm in. i did try using the human pure msm, no effect i was also told the human stuff isn't absorbed aswell in dogs? he is on jointguard, and i have noticed he is a bit better, have the course of injections too, but honestly couldn't see a change jointguard is the most expensive, as it has it all in, the others dont.
  12. yep, thats them, i have 3 in a row against the back fence, he wee's up them all the time. i will remove them, and put in gardenia's all the way round. don't want to tempt fate, but after looking really bad last week, dare i say his skin is starting to look better, still patchy, but no more have appeared, and the ones that are there, are now just bald, not scabby or flaky. fingers crossed this is the turnaround. :D
  13. bully's are prone to skin problems, i had one before when he first arrived here, beginning of dec, he had a few patch's but things got worse over 2/3 weeks, could well be something in my garden.i only have lawn, and gardenia's and those purple plants, ( think they are yesterday, today, tommorrow?) however i think feeding supercoat wasn't my best move ;) i took him to the vet, due to his skin, and the fact his doodle was a bit inflamed, she gave cortisone for the skin, and antibiotics for doodle, we also did a scrape then. 10 days later his skin was worse, not better, thats when she thought it might be someting else, so embarked on lots of tests now she has suggested i try the different food, if nothing works, she suggests going to a skin specialist next, don't think she is very knowledgeable in this area. :D the malasab does "calm down" the skin when its pink. he also had flea's when he got here, so that wouldn't have helped. :D
  14. we have had bloods done 3 times, first one was thyroid test. i know optimum isn't a premium food, but to be brutally honest, single mum with 2 kids and 3 dogs, and self employed, so trying to keep within my budget if poss. if i have to go o the more expensive food, i will, just trying this option first. but looking like eagle pack for him, and keep the other 2 on optimum. ;) will look at royal canin too.
  15. my friends in the uk had one, i thought it was a mutt too when i first met it, fiesty little things
  16. this is mase, happy to change vet, not been happy with this treatment. :D
  17. thanks danois, malasab does seem very harsh, although his skin is not as pink after a bath with it. vet thought he had cushings ,as she gave him antibiotics for inflamed doodle, and cortisone for his skin, at same time, and skin didn't improve. so we have had 3 lots of bloods and cushings tests done, all negative. so he has had alot done to him recently. the reason i put him on optimum is my dally is already on it, and when my wei had sore skin i put him on it too, and his skin went back to normal, so thought it was worth a try, before i start going into ep which isn't cheap although my friend stormy has used it for a long time for her sighthounds and swears by it.
  18. sol, why boiled chicken? can i just use necks, wings ,or chicken mince and rice? white rice? he is also very fat, so trying to drop his weight too. when he first came his skin wasn't bad, and i fed him supercoat lite and mature to try and drop his weight, and the skin just went really bad, and he was starving all the time.
  19. sorry, should have added he has had a skin scrape, which was ok. the vet told me to use malasab twice week for his skin
  20. my bt mason has a skin issue. it wasn't as bad when he first arrived, its has got worse.so trying to rule out food first. i have put him on optimum chicken and rice kibble, and chicken wings and necks. my dally has this food as he can't have red meat. but after a couple of weeks no difference in his skin, how long should i give it before i try something else? should i have seen a change yet, or does food take a long time to show through? i have been recommended to try eagle pack ,the fish one. but don't want to chop and change too quickly. he has bald patches, which are dry and flaky all over his trunk, i am using malasab weekly too.
  21. dally's tick the box, except they shed apparently ( mine is outside ) had a wei too, not the easiest breed cattle dog? vizla sounds good option.
  22. so sorry to hear this, my worst fear owning a bt too when i lived in the uk my vet warned me never to leave my bully anywhere, he said there was fighting around us now i have one again, i worry when certain people pay an interest in him, get scared they will follow us home
  23. i have kids and dogs, and don't object to no kids i think its a great idea, however, i think you will find the 2 dog limit will lose you alot of business one dog can be a pain, than badly behaved to 3/4 well mannered ones, and you will find alot of people here have more than 2. my dogs are outside 24/7, so i would like a secure area, with cover, or kennels , and good walking spots. my idea would be somewhere i could sit outside with my dogs and read and relax, go walking etc. ( when my kids have flown the nest of course ) although i have 3 dogs, so would count me out
  24. so glad she is ok ;) we have a red cattle up the road who is 18 ;) they seem to go forever
