People always try and justify behavior, truth is they cant talk and we don't know what happened to them. Just because a dog is fearful does not mean it was mistreated, it could just be a fearful dog. I have had a few oldies, some fitted in the minute they arrived without a backward glance, others seemed to be looking for someone. My old BT loved utes and would try and get into any he saw, he also loved men, and was my sons shadow. I much prefer mature dogs, they need time to adjust thats all.

what is the consensus atm on vaccines? 3 yearly ones, then nothing after a certain age?
-
It takes maintenance, just like a lawn does to mow, but its far quicker and easier to sprinkle it over with a chlorine mix and chuck the sprinkler on every now and then.

Zelda. I left my salon door slightly open and when i came back in it seemed i had a helper!

yes, i succumbed to another clown

She's not the smartest tool  But she does love her crate and takes herself off into it after she has counter surfed
-
So i'm new to crates, and my new dog seems to sleep with her face pushed against her wire crate  Does anyone know where i can buy bumpers from in Aus? I can see lots from the states, or should i just look at baby cot bumpers?

I have had mine down for over 9 years now. its the proper stuff, fitted on crusher dust etc, not the cheap stuff from bunnings. It does get hot in summer, just like concrete does, i just put the sprinkler on it. I slush it down with chlorine in a watering can every few days too in summer. But i have another grassed area aswell for them to wee on. I had re turfed 3 times before i put it down nd this is way better.

I bought the hanging bucket, however this morning i got up to find her fast asleep with her head wedged right under the bucket, and as i tried to grab it before she moved ,i wasn't quick enough and she lifted her head and it came off the hooks and went everywhere  Going to order the k9 cruiser!

It does seem to attract alot of botox crazies.

West Puppy - Eye Discharge, Suspected Dry Eye?
juice replied to idealgrind's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Dry eye is a lack of tears, so wouldn't run down . The test for it is simple litmus paper in the eye the vet can do, but it sounds like something else. -
I am unsure wether she will smack her head on one that hangs,( not that smart), or not get her very long nose into it easily, i was just worried she would tip it over if i just used a normal bowl, but the cruisers look like a good idea, thanks.

I have never used a crate before, and was just wondering, are the buckets you hang inside the best for water? Last night i just wedged a metal food bowl in the corner, but thats not ideal.

I place train mine. As soon as i let them in a say "place", which is their bed, they go straight there and i give them a treat. I keep randomly walking past and dropping a treat to them when i am happy for them to move i say "ok". But throughout the evening whenever they choose to go to their beds i give them a treat, they soon work out that they get food on their place . Its a bit tedious, but i keep a bowl of treats on the table and their beds are near the couch so i can just lean over and treat them whilst still watching tv

Breeding Blue Staffordshire Bull Terriers
juice replied to Meg_1985's topic in General Dog Discussion
Without sounding mean, if your breeder only bred for colour how do you know your bitch is worth breeding from? If they took nothing else into account she may have no redeeming features to pass on. I would go to a show and see what good SBT look like and compare. -
Why Are Greyhounds Always Suggested As "no Fuss" Dogs?
juice replied to Salukifan's topic in General Dog Discussion
My gripe is people recommending their own breed everytime  -
Bull Terriers love people, so apart from looking the part they wont do anything  Any dog in apartment is hard work , i would go the greyhound too, a big black one would be a good deter ant, they don't smell doggy, and would fit your bill, go meet some and see what you think.

Have done, no reply to that one yet :)

Bull Terrier , my last girl was from Shirvin in victoria, rock solid in temp, but they have nothing till later in the year possibly. The problem is the breed attracts the wrong people who then backyard breed dodgy ones, i want a nicely put together, English line looking one.
-
I got one reply immediately from a lovely breeder, but nothing available, second one i eventually sent a text to ask if they would prefer a phone call to discuss said dog advertised as i hadn't heard back from the email, and got an instant reply that he didn't read his emails and the dog had gone. I don't want a pup, that seems to be the problem, i prefer something out of the destructo stage after having years of fosters trash my place And the rescue ones all seem to have dodgy temps and cant live with other dogs.

Looking For A Particular Japanese Spitz Breeder
juice replied to jamesm's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, i agree, you also get overseas students who buy cute pups to entertain them while they are here the get rid of them when they go back . -
I got a lovely reply from a breeder this morning, explaining that the mature dogs they have atm need to go to only dog homes, but they would let me know if anything came up as i sounded like a lovely home! I just really need advice on which breeders to try and which ones to avoid, the ones i like the type of are not in my state either. So i am just going to have to wait and see if anything comes up .
-
Rehome the pup. Even if you keep them apart the pup will be living in a constant state of uncertainty and fear , and will surely develop problems from it.
-
Yes i believe kennards hire traps.
-
Yes its frustrating as i much prefer to email and if they have an email address in their listing i assume they use it. I did approach via email my girls breeder, and they responded that the dog i was looking at on their page needing a home had been rehomed 2 years ago! and they have nothing available till later in the year. So i am wondering if the mature dogs i am asking about have gone ,and thats why i am getting no replies. I'm in no rush, but i would just prefer a "no we have nothing, or that dogs gone," that being blanked
