You took your dog to an offlead place, and to be honest you weren't in control of your dog either if your hands were full with an injured dog. why not leave the injured dog at home? Yes people do seem to think its ok to let their dogs run up to others, its common practice, so if you go to these places you have to suck it up, or walk around the roads. I walk my dogs over fields near my house, its not offlead, but there are lots of offlead dogs there, if a dog hassles mine they get a warning shout from me to owner and then get a boot.

The fact that the heading said misleading, and you named the breed, not common means the breeder may well see this and its not a good start if you want a good relationship with them. Going elswhere for advice on how to raise a saint may not be in your pups best interests.
-
Yes i would liken it to buying a car, its upto you to change the ownership. When i got mine ,breeder signed the transfer papers and i registered her with council, thats all. I think you are being a bit harsh on the breeder, which is a shame as you have years of knowledge on the breed you have just broken a contact line to.

How To Get A Response From A Reputable Breeder?
juice replied to wimaly's topic in General Dog Discussion
Time and time again we see these threads, i wouldn't have time nor inclination to go to a show and try and approach breeders while they are showing. No wonder joe public goes the easy petshop route! Good on you for sticking with it, perhaps naming the breeds you like might be the way to go, i had to get help here last time and it worked. -
How To Get A Response From A Reputable Breeder?
juice replied to wimaly's topic in General Dog Discussion
Last time i was after a particular breed i had the same problem, no replys no response to phone messages etc, its really frustrating, even if you get a no, at least you can move on! This time the breeder called me back and supported me after she arrived with calls aswell. TBH its a bloody lottery with breeders, not answering calls and emails is rude, no excuses, don't put pups out there if you cant be bothered to speak to people. -
Breeder Refusing Refund For Pure Bred Puppy
juice replied to matt1234's topic in General Dog Discussion
I got burned buying out of state , bitch turned up with dreadful dry eye that was never disclosed to me through numerous emails and phone chats prior. However i agree that you cant always meet both parents etc It is a bit of a lottery sometimes, and just by picking a breeder from the dol breed pages is not guarantee enough. -
Breeder Refusing Refund For Pure Bred Puppy

I'd say as advised, fair trading, can you prove it was for breeding, anything in writing? Its still faulty, and the breeder knew about it too. I'd say they are hoping you get attached and don't want to return it. -
Please Lock (Leaving Dog Alone For 9 Hours 4 Days A Week)
juice replied to batmanforever's topic in General Dog Discussion
At 7am its still pretty cold outside, and by late arvo too, hard for a pup to be chucked outside that early. Also Cavs are people dogs, not really outside alone dogs. I think getting an older dog who is used to being left while owners are at work is best, rather than trying to match breed. You need to make sure there is plenty of shelter, warm bedding and shade for summer too. -

I'm so converted! I already have to have my wits about me and be strong with my new one , i had forgotten after having 2 easy going old duffs before how much on your game you need to be with strong willed dogs! -
So sorry Ricey, i too enjoyed your posts about him, he must have left a huge gap in your life.If only they lived forever. If you get smitten by the bull breeds there's never any going back, they are truly wonderful with so much to give. I don't really know what to say but sorry, and thats never enough, take care.

For All The Unethical (But Responsible) Dog Owners ...
juice replied to Willem's topic in General Dog Discussion
I assume you are joking when you say rescuing dogs from the pound only increases the problem. If you are not, im saying nothing more other than WTF , you have even less of a clue than i thought. And i would get banned for telling you what i really thought -
Can you remove the trolley in the pic and put the litter there and squish a soft bed in aswell? he clearly feels safe in that spot.
-
I don't think its anything to do with the cat litter, more a space to feel safe. I reckon you will be wasting your time trying to section it off and make him anxious. I would look at ways to make that his spot.

I almost want to cry reading this thread, i didn't realise so much can be done before they go home, and what a big difference it makes. It makes me sad for my girl knowing she didn't get this start ,and makes me want a black and tan down the track even more! I think this thread should be pinned as to how it should be done. -
I think i just expected too much of her, ( and got a bit breed blind for a while too), i thought she would be as easy to integrate as my last bully and she wasn't. But all good now, and i'm happy with just feeding a small amount of kibble if thats what it takes.
-
Thought i would update as it got bumped up anyway. I decided to go with the VIP as she liked it, with roo one night chicken the next ( breeder said i might get hotspots if i fed roo too much, she has had 2 appear on her back ,so cutting down the roo), with 2 cups of VIP. Now that we seem to have settled down, and crazy destructo dog has finally settled into a good routine i decided to start weaning down the kibble, it makes her poop pretty smelly and not as firm as i would like. ( not sure that a good reason not to use it  ) So i have gradually been adding boiled rice , reducing the kibble, but mixing in a tablespoon of the VANS , and so far so good, we are now down to just 3/4 of a cup of kibble , cup of rice , meat and 2 tablespoons of VANS.

No they can't lock their jaw, its just they have amazing power. I was told this once. Lift the aggressor by the back legs, where their power is, and away from the bitey end, and don't let go, even if they release the other dog. If this doesn't work, get a second person to loop something around its neck and choke it out at the same time. Not sure if this is still the protocol for doing it.

alot of small dog rescues like the dogs to be allowed inside, was this a problem?

Denise at Paws has lots of Shitzu type dogs . They may not look it, as most have to be shaved down when they come in. Just heard she has a litter of pups, malt x shitzu ,and mum in today.

The advantage of a wire crate is that if he is reluctant to go in a dark area , like he was with the kennel he may go for this type more than a soft crate. you can put a blanket over the top and always drop the blanket over more if he prefers. i have a wire one, lots of nice bedding inside and blankets to nest and a soft blanket over the top. i got mine online and free delivery, much cheaper.
-
I contacted a trainer and had a chat, and i think her problem is she doesn't know how to calm herself down. giving her the kong made her worse as after she had finished she looked for something else and was still too wired. she is still destroying stuff, lost the broom and dustpan this week. However she settled on a pile of blankets in the garage whilst i worked this week without looking at ways to get to me or destroy. I have though about getting another crate for the garage whilst i work and she settles so well in the house in hers. i had booked the trainer for this week, but then accident prone goofball smacked her eye on the corner of the blanket box in the lounge playing with ozzie and now we have a sore eye and are on meds, so put it off till she is better.
-
So today has been good! I think getting firm with her did the trick, after her trying to trash the bed this morning and me luckily seeing her and telling her off, she has been good allday while i was working. They are allowed in half the garage while i work with a little wooden fence blocking off the salon, so they can hear me, she settled down on a pile of bedding and slept the whole time .( i kept poking my head around to check ) She hasn't been over crazy excited, really calm. I think overstimulated might be the problem as she stops alot on walks to look around at whats going on, she got very excited by a child screaming in a pram last night. i think the destruction when we get home is because she is still hyped from the walk .
-
Thanks jules, i need to learn, my last adult one arrived from a breeder with undisclosed dry eye from another state. But what do you do if you don't want a pup ( because of the destruction , ha ha!!!). ex show dog might be a better option as at least they go out and about ? she is lovely, she smiles, and is a real clown, her and ozzie play everyday and she spins inside out not to hurt him, she is a a real lovable girl, which is whats stopping me sending her back.

she destroys stuff wether i am home or out, the huge devastation that occurred the other night was because after our evening walk they come inside, but as i was taking my son out for a few hours and no one was home i decided to leave them out rather than bring her in and crate her, mistake! she clearly was not impressed with the change in routine. When i got back that night i confess i was so angry ( before i cried), and shouted at her, she was doing the wiggly bum in my face whilst i was trying to clear it all up and i just lost it with her, shoved her hard away, she went and sat in the corner of the garden with her head down. I then didn't let her inside for another hour and she just sat at the back door looking sad. Yesterday i decided i ha been too soft with her, i pushed her away when i was trying to get my walking boots on and she was trying to "help" she got it straight away and just waited. This morning so far i have given her a witchs hat with peanut butter around the top whilst i get stuff done before work, which worked for a while, she just tried to trash the other bed by the back door and straight away i told her off and she stopped and took herself off. I bought a kong yesterday and its packed ready for when i have to start work today. I think she just has no clue about what she can and can't do, she has never had anything. I confess i spent yesterday thinking about giving up and sending her back, but i am going to try a bit longer, be a bit tougher and get a trainer to help out too.My rescue head is guilting me into keep trying.

Bull Terrier. She has never run with any other dogs, they are kept kenneled seperately, she was bred from twice and even then didn't meet her mate ( artificail). when i picked her up i asked what she was like with dogs and he said no idea and just pulled another dog out to see what she did. Whilst i was just working for half an hour she pulled the hose off the wall! That was after getting back from an hours walk. I think it might be anxious, i close the garage whilst i am working, i just opened it up and she jumped on the couch and is sleeping, she wants to be with me, in the house she is fine. I have a prong, and put it on last night and it made a big difference. i am going to look at kongs etc today, i tried a bone this week, she licked it for 5 mins and left it. A run is not feasible , tiny suburban block, hence the long walks. when i first got her 2 months ago it was hot, so i let her in during the day in the aircon whilst i worked and put her in her crate and she was fine, now the cooler weather is here she is out during the day, but she can see me from every room and i am inside out allday, she can hear me in the garage working.she has another dog for company, but i think she is a bit needy. For me to ask for help is a big deal, but im just so tired right now. I am also doing NILF
