I need advice of how to deal with a very destructive dog, last night i just sat and cried at what i came home too. In all my years i have never had such a destructive dog and its taking its toll on me. I work from home, so i can watch her, i have moved everything i can , but she finds ways of getting at stuff . Yesterday is a typical day, went for shower, trashed the dogbed outside. Jumped up in the garage and ripped down a leather lead and destroyed it in minutes. Went out last night, came back to every pot on my windowsill on the floor smashed, wooden flowers and wood duck i love eaten beyond repair, shade blind cord ripped off wall and blind trashed. She has ripped up all my seat cushions i had tied down , ripped up my vine along the side of the house which is 15 years old , and pulled the roots so hard they snapped. This is all in the times i am in the garage working and can't see. She is walked twice a day for an hour each time. she is an ex kennel breeding dog, 3 years old. she is also a nutter on walks when she sees a dog, lunges ,spins, barks 34kgs of pure muscle! Its all excitement , she wants to play with everyone, but yesteRday she tripped me up and i tore my tendon in my ankle again. She is good inside the house and sleeps in her crate fine, i done want to keep crating her when i work during the day too, but i am at my wits end! Any tips on keeping her entertained?

It comes in 7kgs bags too,($30) they have it at our local Woolies. I bought the smaller bag first just to be sure and its lasted a couple of weeks giving 2 cups a day with the mince.
-
I got a bag of VIP , and gave her a couple of cups of it with the mince ( 350g),and the bowl was clean in minutes! i just need to work out how much she needs, as with her mum belly its hard to judge how rotund she really is. Lots of dangling floppy skin after desexing. I will carry on with the VANS with my cattle dog as hes fine on it.
-
She recently had her last litter, and was rather rotund when i picked her up! I just had her desexed aswell so don't want to put her through too much at once ( she had rather a bad desexing ( reaction to anesthetic ). She could still do with dropping some more weight, and because i havnt seen her at her best yet its hard to judge. just looking online and it seems i can get VIP in bulk like that, no idea how much it is in woolies, so need to go look and compare.

I suppose after feeding raw for so long, and getting good results , even people commenting on how good they looked when i changed to it i am reluctant to go to kibble again. But if its what she is used to i think i will get a bag of VIP and let her settle more and see how we go. Do i need to still do the boiled brown rice he was giving too or is it just a filler? can i just give extra meat and kibble? She loves the roo mince, scoffs it up , unlike the chicken mince which she takes her time on. I like roo as its so lean.

she can see my other dog in the pool area eating as i leave the garage door up for her, i even tried letting him out and giving him her leftovers and she wandered over and still wouldn't touch it. Every dog i have had loves the VANS, she must be a bland sort of girl!

Yes i tried a gradual change first, i mixed the mix into the meat, and even tried adding sardines or an egg to hide it and she still wont touch it. She scoffs her brekky down, 2x4 bicuits and a couple of chicken feet. Tonight i just gave her roo mince on its own with a 2x4 biccy ands it was gone in seconds. She eats in the garage away from my other dog who is outside, as i never know with new dogs how they will go around food. I checked with the breeder today and it was a cup of kibble, a cup of rice and 300g of meat all mixed in. The VANS is pretty smelly and herby, so that could be whats putting her off. Its a bit annoying as it has worked so well with all my past dogs and i like feeding raw, but don't know what else i could add to the meat she will eat in order to make it balanced enough without going kibble. I might just try the VIP or Applaws and see how she goes on it. I presume the brown rice he was feeding is a filler?
-
I thought those VANS meals were just what i was feeding anyway, their complete mix with meat added? so no good as its the complete mix she is turning her nose up at. I looked up the VIP grain free from Coles which the breeder is feeding, and its not that bad, especially when i saw the price of Black Hawk! I havn't seen the Applaws before, will look at that too. I think a visit to petshop to check out Artemis, BH and a few others might be my first job.

Any particular one?

I havn't fed kibble for years, i prefer raw, ( roo, or chicken with VANS) . However i have a new dog who really doesn't like the VANS , and is now walking away from it rather than eating, even after only adding a tablespoon to the meat. She is an ex breeding bitch who is 3, and her breeder fed her red meat, kibble ( supercoat or VIP), with brown rice. I think i am going to suck it up and get some kibble to go with the roo and chicken mince i have been giving her , but reading all the food reviews is doing my head in! BT's are prone to skin problems, so i don't want to get anything that will cause an issue ( the breeder did mention she may get hotspots if i feed roo as its rich, so i am feeding chicken mince alternately) So, i don't want to go high end and find its actually full of fillers and rubbish etc, which reading reviews paying more doesn't always mean good. i could just feed the kibble the breeder fed, but i always thought both were not great? i know this thread will cause lots of discussion! So far from reading reviews, Black Hawk grain free is my top pick? My other option is to add to the meat she happily eats to make a complete balanced meal, just not sure where to start?

They sound pretty rounded! Funnily, Reddog also used to have a little fluffy that his girl adored. Bullys play style is hard to match, the only other playmate i have found that can cope with them and not get overstimulated like another bull breed is labs, both goofy and want to box and wrestle  I do prefer boy dogs in general, i find them a bit softer and sookier, its just i have always had another male here when i have lost a bully, so had to go girl again this time. If i had known about your litter i may have held fire and begged for one! always next time i have a free spot. :D

His lovely boy Mav who i adored , was full on, but smaller. He could walk for miles really fast and interested in everything around him.( He was a pound dog ) His old girl is still going strong, but although huge much calmer than Mav was.She has a tail which i think makes her look even longer  Perhaps we should both have one of each! i reckon they would fit pretty well as breeds, do you? Are rotties as pushy and dominant as bullies?
-
I suppose i only have Reddogs two to compare to, and his girl is massive! Coupled with their excitement at seeing me made me think of the size thing. When i walk them they do settle quickly( only walked one at a time),But i'm sure if i had one it would be different. His two changed my mind, from scared of them, to love them.
-
OT, but this got me thinking about size. I have no idea why BT'S come in mini size now, seems a bit pointless to be, they are not huge dogs anyway.( well some are). Yet a smaller rottie i would love, being an older female i find the exuberance and strength a bit much for me to handle. So why have they never come smaller? any reason, so many breeds come in different sizes and was wondering if it ever came up? The other point i suppose is training, perhaps if i trained one form a little munchkin i could handle it.

Puppy Culture Rotti Puppies - Photos & Vids Galore

red boy looks like he will be a beast  -
Exactly! With all due repect, the op doesn't know Huski is a trainer, and other posters don't have bull breeds. In the situation described i would not suggest 2 entire bull breeds left alone to sort it out.
-
would they work in an apartment?
-
Bull breeds get highly stimulated very fast, rough play escalates and then its on! Bitches do not back down. Once they have fought, if either survive they never forget , so you would then have to separate for life. your behavior to them will make no difference as to which would be the most dominant. One will push it or wait for their moment and if the other doesn't back down you are screwed. Get a male pup, and desex the older girl.

Don't tempt me!

Renbury Pound: A Negative Opinion?

So Renbury is closing. -
Really enjoyed watching it. I got converted after to Rotties after looking after Reddogs two over the years, the only thing i suppose that puts me off owning one is the size, i wish they came in a slightly smaller package

Its the fault of the judges, while they keep rewarding bad dogs they will continue to breed them this way. The judges who place dogs like this should be banned. And this dog won more than once to even be a crufts.

How Do Staffy & Blue Heeler Pups Go Together
juice replied to staffylover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm not familiar with staffy prices ( they are not english btw ), but i would say most purebred dogs that are health tested are at least $1000. unless you want a " rare " blue( actually most common), colour. Perhaps someone here can recommend a breeder, but you can always get one sent interstate. My neighbour bought one pup, a cav, no problems till a month later when they were passing the petshop again and decided to buy a Cocker pup to go with the Cav. chaos! They now both bark alot, he said all the training he did with the Cav has gone, and they are more interested in playing with each other than taking notice of anything they say. Personally i wouldn't do it, get to know your heeler, and then you can make a better match. -
Holding my tongue.

I think you maybe trying to fit too many ideas into one dog. Something that won't scare or leap all over your daughter, something to make your mum feel safe, and something you think looks cool. To be honest, which is the most important one? Your mum as its going to be her dog? Do you want a dog for your mum that looks the part or will just put people off? There is a difference, my cattle dog looks nothing compared to my Bull Terrier, but he will be the one to bite. Bull breeds require a very strong leader, is your mum one? and you need a dog who will cope with a child visiting its territory regularly too. I would ask your mum what sort of dogs she likes the look of, and what time she can give it, walk it, will it be outside etc?
