  1. There are many breeds who only have a handful of breeders, surely thats a good thing. "rescue warehousing dogs" isn't that exactly how they are kept at trainers who own hundreds of dogs? What is to stop people who want to continue the racing line stopping them? GSD's have working and show line, as do many other breeds.
  2. So how exactly did they plan to tackle live baiting on properties no one can see? Or do you think taking their word for it, cus they are so trustworthy is enough
  3. So lets do nothing, or lets allow them to regulate themselves and pull their game up, oh yes, tried that, didn't work.
  4. And the scumbags keep lying, and wonder why no one trusts them. Andy Lord ,trainer interviewed last night, has 240 dogs, but you know he doesn't euthanase or send to Asia any of his dogs that are not fast enough, what does he do with them then? Oh yes, your wife, who has been banned for giving dogs cocaine and steroids does it for you.
  5. This needs to happen in every state and breeders monitored , i d hate to see it go underground out in the sticks, like dog fighting. I also think its sad that the hobby owner got squeezed out, my neighbour had 3 greys, two retired old chooks that he kept till they died at a ripe old age, and one in training. He said he couldn't compete with the big trainers, and he told me years ago about the live baiting at tracks before a race.
  6. Politicians don't do anything unless there's something in it for them, nothing new there. But losing some land in order to stop this pathetic excuse for sport is a small price to pay.
  7. I take my dogs to a well known greyhound vet which is always teaming with trainers. I cant stand the scumbags. I am sick of standing in the pound while they haul multiple dogs in as its cheaper than paying a vet to kill them. The last time i was there four 9 month old siblings came in, when asked their names he said they didn't have any. They will not regulate their own industry, they cannot be trusted and i am glad its been banned. Yes dogs will die, ones that would have died sooner rather than later anyway, except the cycle is broken. they need to ban it in all states to stop dogs being moved.
  8. About freakin time! This industry cannot be trusted, they cannot or will not abide by the live baiting ban for one. The culture is too big. Yes dogs will die initially, but those dogs would what make another couple of years anyway if they were faSt enough, non of them would live long lives anyway, and at least the cycle will be broken. The rest of the states need to follow to stop dogs being shipped around and the practice to continue.
  9. Personally i wouldn't be fostering females when you already have a pushy female.
  10. It just came up on my FB feed too, its near me and its bloody freezing here ,this morning everywhere was white outside again. 3 years in a kennel is not on, how the hell can you assess a dog for a home if its not in one for that long!
  11. I get mine to wee on command so they can go last thing at night etc, they are outside allday anyway so then they wee whenever they like. I taught a new older dog really fast, you just take them out and keep them in the spot onlead and just keep repeating the words you want to use over and over, then lots of praise. Every designer cross i have met, and there are shed loads around here ,have been crazy hyper nuts,or nervous nillys, one is now 6 and her owners said never again as she never switches off even after hours of exercise, be warned!
  12. The longer you prolong it the harder it will be to let go, she is already getting way too reliant on you. You have kids, you cannot watch everybody and her all the time, its not possible. Everyone is living on eggshells , its not fair to anyone. I'm sure your dog would love to play , but another well balanced dog will come along, perhaps contacting Great Dane rescue for a suitable dog would be the way to go. You have had advice from the best dane owners and rescuers here, take notice. Shitty situation for you, you didn't make her this way , and its you who has to make the call. good luck . think with your head not your heart.
  13. The fact that they don't want their dog back says it all. When i was fostering i would take any dog back, regardless, and i was there for backup everytime, and i didn't even breed them!
  14. Hey, i'm so sorry the breeder has done this to you. Mine was kept in a kennel run too, but have to say inside she is great, because she went into the home to whelp, may have helped that. She has been so good inside, no accidents ( but i take her out alot and she wee's on command now), and she loves her crate. She is also very snuggly and will be cuddled endlesssly! But you don't seem to have any good bits happening, so i undertand how you feel, at least i had something positive to hang onto. I would perhaps decide if you are up for it, if not contact some good rescues and see what they think. I think an outside run would be the way to go, then when you are there you can instill boundries. I found routine helped alot as its what they are used to, she now has free for all and its too much all at once.
  15. I agree about doggy day care. I also would like to point out i wouldn't have a behaviorist look at a dog you have only had a week, dogs can take a few months to settle in and show their true colours. The best way is a good rescue who has dogs in foster, does homechecks , and it there as backup for any problems.
  16. Yep, thought mine was doing good till i accidentally left the door unlocked to my salon yesterday and popped out, she had nudged the door open from the garage side and chewed through the electrical cord of my new heater. Thankfully not plugged in, and a couple of salon towels from the basket. Never let down your guard
  17. I would say where you live and see if someone here can recommend a specialist.
  18. There are very good rescues out there, and very bad ones . They will mat5ch the dog, home check, give backup for life etc. Get advice here if you see a dog and ask if the rescue is a good one, not all on petrescue are sadly.
  19. I agree with steve, you need to limit her access and start showing her what she can do. Atm she is like a kid in a candy store.
  20. Sorry, didn't mean to suggest you crate her all the time, i just mentioned that mine finds comfort there, the door is open. And i'm not saying stick with it , mine was no where near as bad, but they do take a while to settle in aswell. I think you need to decide if you are upto it or send her back.
  21. 3 months ago i got a 3 year old ex kennel breeding bitch too and went through hell for a while till i took control and stopped making excuses for . Mine destroyed anything in sight too, and was mad on walks.( lunging, barking spinning) She loves her crate, i had never owned one before , and i'm glad i bought it, she goes into it by choice and is calm in it. I started NILF, then instead of taking her lots of new places to try and wear her down i stuck to a solid routine, walks etc and she soon calmed down. I did for the first time ever consider sending her back, i was at my wits end, but now she is so much better and i'm glad i stuck with it.

    Lola

So sorry Huga. Its the hardest thing to make that call, we hope they will just go peacefully to save us the pain. Your photos with the boys are as stunning as ever.
  23. i spoke to a trainer recently who was very good, premier dog training in sydney.
  24. I'm not saying its ok, its a reality. People do think its ok, and you are on a losing battle if you think everyone is responsible. Therfore be prepared for it to happen of walk elswhere. Generally standing in front of the annoying dog and blocking it is enough, but i have kicked two dogs who were trying to have a go at mine, and would do it again if i had to. Mine can defend themselves, but don't want them too.
