  1. OK, so it seems I may have jumped the gun so to speak... Stella has regressed back into her anxious state again in our back yard Seems the little boy behind us has taken up basket ball & has been shooting hoops every other day of late. The noise of the ball hitting the back board sends my girl into a wimpering, agitated state once again ERRRRRR. We were going so well too. Just shows you how sensitive she is. Spoke too soon didn't I.... here we go again.
  2. Ever so sorry to read this My deepest condolences to you. Very sad.....
  3. Yes Vizsla M, not so little Kirby is very quiet which I was kind of conerned about but my stepson said she has always been very lay back & that is why he chose her. But will keep a close eye. Having said that I'm used to BC's . Totally didn 't breed.
  4. Oh Yonjuro, those photo's of Ronin with your daughter are just beautiful Loving the pic's on this thread :)
  5. Well just had a text from stepson & Kirby is settling in very well by all accounts. She slept through the night next to their bed in the bed I gave them without a sound till being let out this morning. She went visiting friends most of the day yesterday without issue either. She is being carried everywhere atm. Loves car rides. She is eating / drinking water without issue as well. Have passed on all the info you kind folk have been leaving on this thread. NO stairs, not allowed to over eat or exercise etc etc. I also made sure he was supervising the interaction between Kirby & his 6 year old Doberman. They both seem to be getting along fine. Feed times are closely watched & they are feeding Kirby in her crate(my suggestion) so she gets used to it & to prevent any bickering over food that may occur. So far so good :) Thanks everyone thus far for all your help. Appreciate it very much.
  6. Thanks everyone for your input. Dancin, I agree but I've got about as much chance of them returning the puppy as I have flying to the moon... There is just no way. Un be knowns to me they have been visiting the puppy since one week old, every w.end, so they are well & truly smitten. The puppy has been chipped in their name already. Oh what I meant by responsible is that they both work, usually law abiding citizens. Both are dog/animal loving couple in mid 20's. Naive & gullible YES!!! They brought the puppy from country NSW & apparently the Parvo virus is bad in the area & this is why the BYBER allowed them to take the puppy. How true this is, well who'd know. She is one of 15 puppies. 4 died, so 11 remaining. They have taken the Kirby to the Vet & received a clean bill of health. I'm upset about the whole situation. As soon as my stepson mentioned Gumtree I nearly had a fit... but I can't run my step sons life nor do I want to. I just want to make sure the puppy is OK & knowing nothing about large breeds I thought I'd better arm myself with info so I can help where ever possible. I'm not one to interfere either. So if I'm asked I thought at least I'll be able to give some informed advice instead of, I don't know ???
  7. Love this shot of DIGBY.... He is such a sweet boy :)
  8. Yes your right Caz. What was I to say when they are so excited about their new addition. They couldn't come over quick enough to show me Kirby. Thanks for the link. Apprectiate it :)
  9. Giggle DDD... :) thanks for your vote of confidence.
  10. Good idea HW. Will check in on the Dogue feed. Apparently dad was the English Mastiff weighing some 90 odd kg & mum was Dogue at around 70 kg. Kirby looks very much full Dogue so will be on the smaller side of mini pony I'm hoping. Very thick legs & monster feet though.
  11. Caz. Yes I know it is illegal is sell a puppy at 6 weeks... between that & the BYBer's issue I nearly had a fit. I was far from a being happy but what can I do??? What point would it make for me to get upset at them now. I'm just very disappointed but now have to make sure I arm myself with knowledge of these large breeds so I at least have some answers for them if they ask. They are both very responsible, dog loving 20+ year olds. Apparently the reason the 'breeder' wanted them to take the puppy early was Parvo is very previlant in the area at the moment Thats a whole other can of worms. Kobin, yes used to be OK at 6 weeks to pick up a puppy years ago, didn't it? Not so now though. And they are going to take her to puppy school etc. I 'm concerned about Kirby's hips, who knows as there would of been no testing done on parents. Pers, I'll try & post some pic's. Not very computer savvy. Kirby's as cute as a button. And HUGE !!! In excellent condition. Seems very sweet natured & extremely content. I put the new bed down on the floor for her & within 2 min's she was sound asleep in it. Then woke up & had a little walk around, tail wagging, then sleep in bed again  She is getting carried around atm because she is so young, but will pass on no stairs etc as I know they have a few stairs at the back. Yes it's a real shame they got sucked into a BYBer's puppy. I really wish they didn't. I know they did look at pure breed Dogue's but it boiled down to $$$ I think. Errrrr.
  12. Hello everyone, I'm after some information/help for my stepson actually. He came over yesterday to show us his new puppy. A 6 week old Dogue x English Mastiff he & his girlfriend have just brought from a BYB Hmmm, I so wish they would of come to me first but here they both were, with baby in arms, over the moon So on the up side of this, if there is one. They are both lovely young dog loving people who want nothing but the best for "Kirby". Kirby being so young, at 6 weeks & me knowing nothing about large breeds like this, thought I might ask on here for any advice regarding feeding, exercise, training & general health management for puppies of this breed /'s... My stepson has rescued a Doberman who he has had for 4 years & now they have Kirby as well. He has done a brilliant job with his Dob who was serverely neglected in his previous life. Now is a picture of health & a lovely boy. I gave them some toys, a kong, a crate & new bed for her. Kirby appears to be in excellent health. Is eating & drinking very well. She has had her first shots as well. Very content baby girl & very, very cute. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated :)
  13. Way to go PS !!! Wonderful news :) Amazing what a difference diet can make. Well done.
  14. Of course he did. He is a very lucky boy :)
  15. Saved me typing raineth. Major cuteness alert here !!!!!
  16. Happy 2nd Birthday sweet Odie girl
  17. Thanks Tassie. Appreciate your kind thoughts :) I'm enjoying every minute of her new found calm self. We do have a long way to go in many other areas & we still have 'our moments' like today she isn't to happy because the man next door is using an electric prunner, once again it's a noise issue but we have no where near the reaction we used to get from her & she has settled down so much quicker. Hankdog sorry to hear Jake is going through a rough patch atm. Interesting to see the outcome of his Thyroid tests. He has been tested before you say. Hope you can get to the bottom of it very soon. I had Sonny tested actually a long while ago now as his coat went off & he gained weight but his were fine. Turned out he had food intolerance issues. Allergic to grain & yeast. Never had any issues since I tweaked his diet.
  18. Oh what gorgeous old fella Do hope he can find a comfy, loving home to see out his days. Yes DD, a cage is a cage isn't it?
  19. I have used the Natures Gift (tinned variety) a number of years ago on my aged male BC. He went very well on it & it was the only thing I could get him to eat towards the end of his days. I have never been a fan of canned food but this was my pick of them.
  20. Received my order this morning. The size is really different but it is easily broken up to smaller pieces if needed too. By all accounts, "Yummy" after a quick taste test here. Both my guys really liked it So we will see how their condition goes on it :)
  21. Hankdog, have given this some serious thought too. I think it is a combo of things. I certainly can't take all the credit. The main 'trigger' for Stella's anxiety was a big dog that lived behind us but he hasn't been there for approx.6 weeks now. He used to bark a lot which would set Stel off. I think his leaving is key to for her improvement really. If she does get a fright over something now I redirect her a lot earlier than what I used to & I must admit I stay much more calm, also key IMHO. I have tweaked with her diet. No wheat, soy, grain nor anything artificle. Coupled with her being on her new Epilepsy medication, she hasn't had a seizure in 2 months either I also noticed after the first week on this she gradually just seemed much more at ease & comfortable. DAP spray used daily on bedding & the radio on low volume has certainly helps her to sleep right through the night now. Where as previously I would be up to her 3 to 4 times a night as she would become highly agitated listening for noises outside & would want to run outside to investigate. She wouldn't sleep in her bed & would pace mostly. She now is still curled up in her bed at 7.30am each morning. It's lovely to see :)
