  1. So pleased Annie had a much more positive experience at the Vets Sometimes anxious dogs just need to be handled gently & reassured. Poor girl sounds like she has such an upset tummy Hope the antibiotics can settle her down. Stella is funny when she gets out of her crate because she just comes & finds me  Don't know why she bothers... She is an excellent house dog. She has never touched anything. I think I know why. She is a toy carrier.. Her mouth is always busy. She has her favourite toy, a fluffy pelican, we nick name Pete & she carries it everywhere she goes. She has done this with Pete since she was 12 weeks old. Quirky girl she is.
  2. Blimey been an expensive week for you by all accounts. Poor Annie equally poor you... Glad she is OK. You'll have to be vigilant with anything you don't want her to touch. Make doubley sure it is out of her reach. Best put a little lock on her crate door. I have one on Stella's as she can get out of her crate as well. Not quite sure how she does it but she has done it. My girl has bitten the Vet on more than one occasion. Once on his face She will snap out of fear as did Annie I'm guessing. It is frightening to see them in such an emotional state & to actually bite. Stella was shocking at the Vets. Had to be muzzled. She has tried to jump through a closed window, upturned furniture etc etc. All you can do in a situation like this is to remain as calm as you can. I decided to change Vets as I wasn't happy with the way he was handling Stella & it was the best thing I ever did. My new Vet is fabulous with her. We were there last week getting Stella's bloods done & Sonny Accupuncture & she didn't put a paw wrong. No need to muzzle her anymore. She actually sits on the Vets lap & gave her kissed at one stage. I'm so proud of her. If you are happy with the Vet you go to I would be talking to him & the Vet nurses to figure out a game plan to lesson Annies anxiety. You must tell him or anyone that is handling Annie that she has bitten before. I found the Vet table used to really upset Stella. If Annie doesn't like it or you think it makes her more nervous ask for her to be treated on the floor.Maybe do mock runs there with a pocket full of treats when they are the least busy. Let her have a quick sniff about, maybe pop her on the scales, treat & heaps of praise. Leave. Next time maybe some interaction with staff & so on. I always wait outside when we have a Vet appointment as I find less stressful & the Vet just calls us in when it is our turn. This may work for you too. As far as you working with Annie I can understand that you are a little wary of her since you witnessed her behaviour at it's worst. I was the same. Be mindful of her anxiousness & always be careful, but don't show your fear. I gradually became more confident & calm, you just have to step up but it isn't easy. I just made sure that I picked the appropriate time to do certain things that I know she wasn't really happy with me doing. Eg. Stella used to hate having her tick preventive put on so I used to quickly do it while she was busy with a Kong. Hope I was of some help :) Our anxious dogs are always a work in progress.
  3. We have the exact same Chuckit thingo we use the Chuckit balls. They are great. Very tuff. Yes $$$ but worth it arent they Tee kay.
  4. 3 weeks old. Dear little thing. Wouldn't her mum feed her Nek?
  5. Awwww gosh how gorgeous Smokes coat is mammoth. He certainly has himself prepared for the winter chill if dear ol' Gertie isn't up for a cuddle :p
  6. Yes another Vet. Four months is a long time for a dog to have a lesion in his mouth. Hope he is ok.
  7. Oh Nek you are a trooper. Baby Dob. I've got a huge soft spot for them. My stepson who is dog mad thanks to me adopted a gorgeous Dob boy from Geelong actually 6 years ago.. Such a handsome dog. He is such a loyal faithful boy. Huge part of the family now. Excellent watch dog. Nobody gets into their backyard without an invitation ;) Any pic's Nek??? :)
  8. Teekay, have you ever thought of giving another Vet a try? From personal experience I decided to seek out a new Vet & we haven't looked back. Stella was an absolute nightmare to take to our original Vet of almost 20 years. She tried to jump through a closed window in the waiting room, upturned all the furniture etc She bit him on several occasions as well It was a four person job just to get her vaccinated. I now see a very switched on female Vet who is just amazing with her & Stella quite happily visits her. It's like we are popping in to say high to a friend. No need to muzzle her or anything. She walks into the consult room quite calmly. This Vet doesn't have a consult table, everything is done on the floor. Stella went last week to have her bloods checked & a full check up. We were there for about 40mins while Sonny had acupuncture as well. Stella decided she may like to take a wonder about so opened the rear sliding door of the consult room with her nose, ventured into the next room to say hi to her favourite Vet nurse, then wondered back  She never put a paw wrong. Stel was actually sitting on the Vets lap at one stage & giving her a few kisses. Honestly switching Vets was the best thing I ever did. Just a thought Teekay as it has been such a positive game changer for us :)
  9. I never walked in the middle of the group when I participated. I always walked in our own space & sat away from others. I have seen a couple of spats between dogs but IMHO you could see them coming a mile off. Owners not paying attention to their dogs & their reactions. Owners responsibility to their dog under effective control.
  10. How's our patient this morning Teekay? hope lovely Luka is doing OK. Their eye's can be so sensitive & tricky at times. So true what you say about owning a reactive dog. Everything needs to be planned down :) Kirty thanks for your interesting input. I will remember those signs to look out for regarding an eye injury.
  11. Rookie looks like a lovely boy. Quite unsure though. You & your family will weave your magic on him :-D
  12. It does look red . If it was me Teekay I'd keep Luka monitored tonight & tomorrow morning if you think Luka is in discomfort or her eye has changed in any way. Any swelling etc. Off to the Vet.
  13. I have done the millions walk a few times. Great day out. I have a reactive girl who isn't comfortable in crowds so we won't be participating. I'm not a huge fan of the RSPA & they do very well as far as donations go IMHO. I prefer to try & help the smaller not for profit groups as most do a wonderful job with very little resources & a handful of very passionate animal loving volunteer 's. I do donate what I can plus. dog gear I'm not using, food towels blanketsto my local dog shelter & a working dog rehab group.
  14. Wonderful news Nekhbet . Dear Rocky had such a torterous start in life. Just left in a backyard to rot..... for a working breed is beyond cruel. I'm thrilled for him. He will thrive now in the right loving forever home.. Thanks so much for caring Nek. Also kirty who kicked off Rocky's plight. Your the best :)
  15. Dear Tiger hilarious... Ronin has a beautiful singing partner :D Gosh he is so dam handsome as well
  16. Oh sorry VM . I did a quick check before posting this up as well. Thanks :) will read with interest.
  17. Oh bugger Delta Charlie... when I posted this I thought of you. I wondered about Stella's tolerance to this product. I nearly pm'd you first but didn't want to take up your time. Thanks for the heads up, again LOL. I understand Kelly & Katrina are being paid to promote. I was just making a little light hearted joke. The convenience of quartely really appealed to me.
  18. Mita, thats such a grand age . Wonderful really. She was one lucky girl :)
  19. how cute. They don't have a Border Collie one though  Great Dane is the weirdest one I've ever seen :p
  20. Snook, nice you are here :) Sorry to read Justice is having a very rough time of late. Being attacked twice Very difficult situation. You are managing him wonderfully well. He is very fortunate to have you. Kynan, Mark Singer has a really good name. I'm loving the sound of those reactive classes. Glad they are working for you both. Hankdog, I think it's terrible that you have been threatened by people. But I would be keeping a low profile as you are. I know when Stella is behaving badly & being reactive in public some of the things people have said to me blew me away. What I should do with Stella has had me in tears.I should have her put down, she's a crazy dog. etc etc And in some instances Stella was getting the blame for scuffles that happened around the area & at the beach by some regulars & she wasn't even there. I think also when your dog's is going through a rough patch it is a very demanding ongoing situation for an owner. Owning a very reactive dog or a weak nerve dog is 24/7 work IMO & sometimes your nerves do become frayed & you do get anxious. Your other dog radar is always on. This is something I try & control now as your dog can read this. I'm staying a lot calmer & more assertive. I think it is paying off
  21. I know, when I read it's a 4 months tick preventive I also read Dr. Katrina 'wonder dogs' fame is endorsing this product. Gosh if it's good enough for Flyn  Any reviews come back with nothing but glowing reports. Very tolerable with most dogs as well. Might have to give this one a go.
  22. Hi folks, Was wondering if anyone has tried Bravecto chewable flea & tick preventive? It gives 3 months protection against fleas & 4 months against ticks. I'm loving the sound of this but like with anything new I'm unsure to try it as I can't seem to find any reviews on it as yet. Any thoughts or info greatly appreciated. TIA :)
