Thansk so far guys. Some things I hadn't thought of. Ok, will book a vet visit for blood and skin scrapings. I did think originally it could be a skin mite type thing- but my other dog had that issue a year or so ago and it didn't quite look the same. I suppose they can manifest in different ways though- so worth the piece of mind. Interesting, might be worth a check. ok, they are fed raw- so get a variety of proteins including fish, beef, lamb, roo, chicken and turkey. How would I go about testing these? ie. what is the length of time to test one specific protein for before moving to another? I assume the start protein would have to be the most novel of all of them, hope it stops the itching to then check which starts it again? He has also been getting into the cat biscuits. I have stopped that now and feed the cats on a table as i have a feeling they could be the cause. But we shall see..

Damn. I liked that they were Aussie made. My dogs are fed raw due to allergies of one, but i feed BH to my cats and they love it and look great. Hopefully quality doesn't change..

They really do grow quickly. Its amazing to watch. Did you tell him it was for the dog Yonjuro?

Ok. So my youngest, Deniki, has been eating himself to death lately. It started probably 2 weeks ago now. He had long hair and had been chewing at himself - no signs of fleas on any of our pets. Treated just in case, as well as a full bedding wash and our house was sprayed a few months ago so fleas shouldn't be around anyway. My previous cav used to get a summer itch type thing when his coat was long- so i clipped deniki short to see, but it didn't help (didn't worsen it either). Haven't changed our laundry detergents, his food, his shampoos, planted no new plants, havent been anywhere new he could have come into contact with anything he hasn't been before. Ive been using the calendula and its not helping at all. His skin isn't looking red or irritated. He's been chewing out hair around his legs, but not really his paws. Which makes me think it could be food related? Just wanting general advice on how i would go about narrowing this down. And whether or not this is something i should go to the vet for? I hadn't yet in the hopes it would clear up itself. He is otherwise happy :) Pics attached- the spots he's chewing on the worse side (the other only has two patches of hair missing), and the spot he is licking on his left leg only. He's not fixated by it at all/chewing constantly, but i figure it must be bothering him slightly if he is eating out his hair.. Any advice is appreciated!

I knew about grass seeds and to check feet and ears. HOWEVER, i did not know they could so easily penetrate and migrate. So thank you OP for posting, and Sheena Cant believe it went all the way to his shoulder- couldnt imagine that! Also you'd be surprised about how little some dog owners know- not so much on this forum - but the general population is often not greatly informed on such things.

This is so great :D Its such a good way to keep them fit and moving.

Jules, I'd say they'd be referring to the bit about your vet approving. No one would think it was good that Amber is sick. Exactly what i was referring to BundyBurger :) Thank you. Of course it's not good your dog is sick JulesP. I wouldn't wish that on anyone ever. Sorry that you read it that way. Perhaps though if she had access to early dental care things might be different? I think this looks fab as a prophylactic measure. Nope, I've had Idiot Dog since he was 13 weeks old and his teeth are terrible. He has always had deer antlers, cow hooves (and any other safe chewables I come across), brisket bones and was raised on a raw diet but some greyhounds just have really crap teeth. Idiot Dog had his first full scale and clean at 9 months old and has had them every six months since that- it makes no difference though- if you end up a a greyhound with a bad mouth, removal of the problem teeth is really the only permanent solution. Personally, I wouldn't be keen on letting anyone scale my dogs' teeth without a GA and AB cover I've found this also, dont know- must just be genetics Same as humans I guess- some just have bad teeth. But the youngest of my 3 dogs, despite getting everything everyone else has, just has dirty teeth. He'll be needing a scale MUCH earlier in life than any of the others. henry is 5 and hasn't needed one- Deniki will probably need one twice in that time..

Does seem that way doesnt it  Also, OT, but any thread that says Pic Heavy gets me excited

My dog is terminally sick so I really don't need to be concerned about things like this. The ONLY reason I mentioned it was because people were asking about the dogs staying still. AND my vet approves. Thats really good for you However, I wasn't directing that at you. That was general information for other people who are reading and contributing to the 610 views this post has had. ETA: fix spelling

There is a difference bettween having it fully done under GA and having this done. However, I would say having these frequently probably means that one with GA is not necessary until much later in life and definitely less frequent. So with home care (ie. bones and/or toothbrushing) i feel these would be a useful part of a dental regime. Also be careful scaling them yourselves- when done under GA, they are done with the scaler, but then buffed smooth again. Scaling them with the pick type instruments leaves small grooves in the teeth that make it easier for more tartar to stick next time around Unfortunately with teeth its a never ending cycle.

I love the wahl km2 clippers. the salon recently upgraded to the supposedly 'better' KM5. But they're horrible- not as powerful and slower. Can't go past a km2 :) He could check out gumtree for a cheaper second hand set too. There is no point wasting money on cheap clippers as they will simply not cut it. I am assuming he wants them short? Most BC's in the salon are done with a 7 blade. a 5 is slightly longer but still short. And he probably wants a 10 blade to do between the pads and the groin/belly area :)

bet he enjoyed that!

I think i will too

whoops. Double post

I overlooked that bit damn- they were looking good! I imagine there wouldnt be too many registered users. So probably not useful for anything except keys

I saw these the other day in an ad on facebook, and wondered if you could attach it to a dog. The trackers are all so big, and with 8kg dogs i just feel they wouldn't work. however this very well could.. https://www.thetileapp.com/how-it-works I dont trhink they're being sold yet- so sorry for the useless post! but i did wonder.

Happy birthday Ronin! Looks like he's been very spoilt!

I have seen quite a few good spaniels in agility :) Also agree with BC, shelties and poodles. there are many of these who are very competetive in the sport. Similarly ACD's.

Cool Coats That Don't Require Water?
denali replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have both the chillybuddy and hurrta cooling coat. I cant use the hurrta one while hiking as for me it always dries out and needs to be wet. However, in a trial situation i find it great The chillybuddy seems to stay cooler for longer when hiking because of the reflective nature of it. The cool runners lookgood, may have to give them a go :) -

This is terrible. The RSPCA is also terrible. We need a new organisation who actually have morals.
