Just wondering, maybe buy a harness with labels saying "in training" if you make it look official the general 'joe-public' may ignore you more. But i agree. It is annoying. And i am sorry you had to deal with these asshats. ETA: totally agree with the europe thing. Dogs everywhere and pretty much ignored by anyone other than their owners. Would be handy while at cafes. Mine frequently get patted at cafes- especially by children. Lucky they are child and people safe dogs.

Ask D O L The Decider Of All Things In Life

Oh! nothing exciting, just trying to pick photos for an IG calendar, but I've decided to use both, I'll probably use one this year and the other next year. :D Thanks everyone for your opinions. #2 was my fave as well although after reading everyone's comments and reasons I started to like #1 as well. Thats hardly 'not exciting'! Can't beat an IG calendar :D (except maybe a cav or GSD calendar ;) ) They are both excellent shots- definitely use one next year too. -

Owners Of Large Powerful Dogs - Do Not Let Your Kids Walk
denali replied to labadore's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am so sorry to hear about your ideal And totally agree with the statement. However, also did see a small grown woman being pulled along by a large mastiff or dane cross type dog, and thought the same thing.. Her dog was definitely walking her! I used to see a dog out walking that wore two leads. One so the child thought he was walking the dog, the other held by the mother. I thought it was quite clever. -

What Obedience Looks Like When You Add Drive!

I saw this video the other day - i think on fb - its so great! -
Jemmy your girl is beautiful!! One day i will own another GSD.

Ok good to know. A lady from agility had her 3 dogs recently, 2 of which showed a reaction to it. But she sent them back. Assuming they were and old batch or something was faulty with them.
-
Just be careful. Have seen some very odd reactions to this collar form small dogs. Only the smaller dogs, big dogs none reported to us at work or around our agility club. Including excessive scratching, redness of skin, sudden aggression, paranoia... Very odd! So i have steered clear of them for thsi reason. But some say they work very well :) They are also thinner, which i do like.

So exciting! Great breed choice. I've got 3 cavaliers also. REALLY want the 4th to complete my set :D ETA: all of my cavs have been boys (had one before any of my current boys too) and are very sooky. Kokoda is my most independant and busy dog- he loved gardening and 'hunting' The other love following us and sleeping  I think my next will be a blenheim girl.

I may be enabled,.. Only thing slowing me down is they dont have a red one! my dogs are colour coded red, blue and orange..

Aaargh, People Who Don't Chip/register Their Dogs
denali replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
One of my dogs isn't chipped in my name. He was a rescue dog and it was never changed. I don't know who he is chipped with or how to go about changing it. but then again the only time he is outside is when he is with me, and he wears a collar with tags, so I think its safe. Not the ideal- but workable. Also, a bit OT, I had Kokoda's chip scanned. He is microchipped and all details are correct BUT his chip has migrated to a fair way down his front leg! The vet thought i was mad when I said "he is microchipped, keep looking" but we did find it. If he were to end up collarless and in a pound i doubt they would spend that long or scan that far down his leg. I have only ever seen people scan around their neck and shoulders. So that is a bit worrying- so i had 'm/chipped' engraved onto his tag as well as my number. -
What kind of cat is that?- so cute! Agree with the others, baby gates should work. Some good suggestions here. Also something that smells like the kitten that is always around the dogs. A big part of new animals is their strange scent. They should get over it relatively quickly :)

How awesome! Everyone looks so happy, and its hard not to be!

It is a pet peeve of mine when people who train agility think they know everything there is about dogs. Especially a breed they don't own! They seem relatively rare, but i have met a few of these people recently. yes labradors are people focussed, but that doesnt mean they need to be with them 24/7. I think it is definitely a good part of dogdom being able to be separated from you, and something i practice with all my dogs from pups. TBH, he sounds like he gets more attention throughout the day than my guys. I have to work, so they are alone and outside at least 6 hours during the day. For any worried i do still give them plenty of enrichment during and outside these hours :D So dont rehome him, he can live a lovely and fulfilled life at your place, sounds perfect to me. And IMO, just ignore this 'trainer'!

I'd have to go with a GSD i think. They're super cuddly, loyal and protective. And size wise ideal I think. We had one who would catch birds growing up, so i am sure they could all do it. But best of all their eyes are so expressive and intelligent seeming i wont go crazy from the isolation, because its pretty much like talking to a human anyway :D fix spelling

Sounds a lot like my feeding regime Yonjuro I feed my dogs coconut oil, and fish oil (alternate days) and since doing so their coats are lovely! More so than when just on fish oil. And as its relatively cheap so I just continue with it. No harm in it. One of my dogs is prone to dry skin, so i use it topically on him time to time too :)

I have not used Heiniger clippers, however I have seen them before. bought Wahl Bravura- they are light, quiet yet powerful. I have only used them for a full clip a few times on maltese type dogs, however a colleague did use them to clip a husky. So I would say fit your bill. Depends on your breed of dog you will be clipping.
-
Tough call between them- I know many lovely examples of the two! From what i have seen the shelties are the slightly easier to train of the two. However can be more skittish. But other than that they are very similar. I am sure someone with more helpful information will pop in soon. In the meantime, when you do get your puppy, we expect lots of photos! :D

Agree with this. Does anyone seriously believe that people are going to drive around the suburbs looking for houses with a mark on them? It would be worse than looking for a needle in a haystack. eta re bolded first paragraph It does seem like a huge leap when you could just write the addresses down on a piece of paper and then give that piece of paper to the person doing the stealing. On that same bit of paper, you could include breed, owners' schedules and security of each house. Of course, that sort of sensible approach is much less mysterious than secret signs and codes painted everywhere. Hardly as fun an exciting to publish in the newspaper anyways.

True, i haven't either. You are probably right. i feel dog fighting isn't as much of a problem as overseas. Though thats an assumption really and would stand corrected. God i hate some people Interesting that that article matches what HW is thinking. Probably the case then. This article says one inflicted by knife others from dogs. Either way not very good of whoever responsible.
