  1. Thats wy mine dont have the Julius K9's. Much cheaper to buy a few puppias off ebay! Though i do like the look of the others.
  2. i was just going to say they are very similar to the original Julius K9 :)
  3. Sorry, double post Don't know what happened there..
  4. Mine dont seem to drink that either, I have the cavs, 8kg, 8.5kg and 10kg, and two water bowls that they drink out of. One on the front verandah that is the main drinking bowl after going walking, its just over 1L, and I have a little one in the bathroom that probably holds 2 cups? Its actually for the cats, but they all drink out of it.. Between the 3 dogs and 3 cats the little bowl is emptied every 2 days, and the large one is never emptied, it gets dirty before it gets empty, so i empty about half out of it into the pot plants about once a week :) They are fed raw with some biscuits occasionally if we have won any, and the cats are fed canned and biscuits.
  5. That is pretty much matching exactly what i had seen in my researching. I do throw it straight, so he doesn't turn sharply at high speeds, but the controlled retrieves may be the way to go, probably just as fun for him. Didn't think about abrasiveness of tennis balls. I will go buy some rubbery ones today :) ETA: just found some squishy rubber ones on ebay, so they'll be here thursday :D
  6. Hi everyone, I have been reading on building muscles in my old boys rear, and while researching this I came across many people warning against playing fetch with your dog. I play fetch ALL the time with my 17mo. He LOVES the ball. So at agility training the ball is often a reward, plus the times i take him to the park with a tennis racquet and just throw it for him. This isn't everyday, but we do it rather often. They said it was bad for their hips and ligaments and could lead to a ruptured cruciate. Is this true? So should i not be playing fetch at the park and just leave the ball as an agility reward? He really loves it, and it an easy form of exercise as he doesn't really play with other dogs, but if it's doing more harm than good i would stop. TIA :)
  7. Sorry, I don't know of anyone who does. The past 3 salons i have worked at don't offer this service. Are you in contact with his breeder? They may be happy to show you how to do it :) If you did it yourself you would probably save a lot of money.
  8. Mine got theirs from the wolf den a week or so ago. I love them! mine are the pull over variety as they sleep in them, but you can get them with zips down the back too. very cozy :) ETA photo :) ETA x 2, and they are loose around the neck for my guys :)
  9. We had boxers and GSD's before we got our cavs. We opted for the smaller dog as we moved into the city and our yard was tiny. Not really fair for a big dog. The cavs have the same happy-go-lucky attitude as the boxers, just less boisterous and clownish :) And obviously smaller haha
  10. I was going to suggest cavaliers :D I may be a bit biased but they're wonderful. Mine would fit the bill- only one of mine sheds alot, the others are rather lightly coated and dont really shed. Though i dont think this is typical haha I do agility with Deniki and Kokoda :) Though koda is injured so having a break from it at the moment. they are very easily trainable, love food, people and kids. though they are small so kids have to be gentle with them. I would say i walk them once a day for about an hour and a bit of free running as well, and we go to training on tues and wed nights, but they dont go crazy if you miss a walk which is what i love. ETA I don't know about breeders outside of QLD, but the two that I see recommended ALL the time are Kabob and Kahleyvale. Both in QLD but i would say ship interstate. Sorry i couldn't be much help there.
  11. I don't think it was quite the other way around, i think in context the puppy farm comment made sense. As in other 'puppy farms' buying new breeding stock from pet shops? Still a bad article, but thats how i read it.
  12. I have ezydogs and puppias. My past dog i had the ezydog chestplate variety. Lasted his entire life and I still use if occasionally for my dogs now. My current dogs have the quickfit. They fit perfectly on 2 of my dogs, but the other is slightly in between sizes so he wears the smaller size but with the chest adjusted a bit too far for my liking. If he were a big dog i wouldn't use it, but it seems strong anyways. And with his it rubbed behind his elbow and left a scab. But i think that may have been because i left it on while he ran? But now i just take it off for that. The other two had no rubbing issues. The other ones i like are the puppia harnesses :) They're pretty, and have held up well to 5 years of abuse so far. Definitely ok for the jack russell, but they dont make large ones, so if you want matching ones, puppia will have to miss out :)
  13. We had the same issue. I think in our case it was our cats bringing them in. So I capstarred all the dogs, flea treated all the cats. Washed ALL bedding including cushion covers, dog beds, our bed linen, and then flea bombed. So far so good! We had been battling fleas for about 4 months, but now even if they get one flea, i will give them a capstar, and then it doesnt turn into an entire infestation! So glad i did it :) The house did smell terrible and had to be opened up to air out for a while, so do it on a day you can sit outside :)
  14. I saw this the other day. So beautiful yet so sad. I haven't had to put down a dog yet, my parents always took the dogs without me as i was young. And my previous dog died suddenly at 7yo from a heart attack/stroke, so i didnt even have to watch him get old. Not looking forward to that day
  15. hahah this is hilarious! And for once, NOW they are a low grooming dog!
  16. i agree with this 100%. I am aware there are breeds still undergoing development now and trying to get recognised formally. Like the Murray river retriever (and bull arabs are too, aren't they? Not 100% sure there) She isn't trying to create the Shepoyed for any productive reason. Just to have a cute pet like the one she's grown up with.
  17. I know. Sometimes i lose faith in humanity, because I realise so many people are idiots.. I am sure i have my idiotic moments, but i like to think my non idiocy outweighs that  Good plan, i think i will ask her all of these next time I have a shift with her. I don't think she has thought about it at all. Also think that the liklihood of producing a dog that looks just like hers does is rather slim  I think its her way of having her dog live forever
  18. Just had to have a little rant about the stupidity of people once again. My coworker was trelling me yesterday about her plan to create a breed like the dog she currently owns. She has GSD x Samoyed. And wants to recreate this dog. So she was telling me all about how she is going to get a GSD girl from a good breeder with papers and then a samoyed to create puppies. Then she was going to find another GSD x Samoyed pup, buy that and breed the two puppies. Then call them 'Shepoyeds' and sell them. She was a vet nurse and knows all about the things that can go wrong with puppies, and the horrors of BYB puppies, yet wants to do this anyway! Also feel that mixing GSD and samoyed could end badly if the pup fell into the wrong hands.Surely, they would need lots of stimulation. And grooming I wanted to and but she seems pretty set in her ideas. So GSD and Samoyed breeders beware..
  19. Also the group "Raw feeding FRIENDS' on fb is quite helpful :)
  20. I raw feed my three cavvies and the chicken bones are what they get mostly - wings, drumstciks, necks. This is mainly because they're small and dont need larger bones, not because they couldn't eat larger bones. Despite the fact you feed him meat, its not 100% protein :) which is a common misconception. Maybe just up the bone content for a bit to firm it up, the premade mix you are getting may just be a little too high in organ content. Agree with ruralpug, if he is doing well before this there is no reason to switch out straight away. Have you been steaming or pureeing the veggies? This makes them more nutritionally available to the dogs :)
  21. Some of the RC add small amounts of glucosamine to the food? Maybe thats why he suggested it, my vet suggested it to me for my by with patella issues for that reason. Hope the chiro can help out :)
  22. Number 6 happened to me actually, 5 years ago with Henry. Bought him as a registered dog, from a registered breeder, i never met her as she lived not interstate but rather far away. She seemed excellent, skyped all her dogs for me to see, scanned through all relevant health test results and pedigrees of sire and dam. When we got Henry she said she would send through the papers in the mail but never did. He was shipped to us, and I have no idea where she disappeared to.. I tried stalking Dogzonline for her page, and the sire and dam to no avail. So i have a papered dog but no proof he is papered..
  23. Is it a food allergy? Or more of an environmental contact allergy? If he isn't allergic to different foods, try adding some tinned sardines or whole raw eggs to his meals. Mine get rotation of an omega oil capsule, sardines, or egg. Have these each day and have lovely coats, with very minimal shedding. Though they're not G Rets, I started doing this as i noticed two of my dogs had wiry coats and scratched alot. This has helped both issues.
