  1. I agree with all of the above. Do notify the breeder of this, as they may not be aware of the mistake, nor may they be aware of any allergies in their lines. However, allergies of this kind are often not hereditary. Also, it is important to know that the average age of Frenchies is 8-12 years old. This means some do die young, and some live to 15. My past dog passed away at 7 years old too, with a life expectancy of about the same, his mother is still alive at 16 years old. There's no knowing sometimes, and the necropsy didn't reveal anything for him. Just point it out in a reasonable way, if they did not know, then no legal actions is really necessary, if you feel they are falsifying records, notify the state body and seek advice regarding your options. As i am sure Dogs VIC would have some form of disciplinary action against the breeder. Just remember him, for the happy memories you hold will forever outweigh the grief you feel at his passing. RIP Gus.
  2. I do not understand why they are taking 3 goes to vaccinate a dog? You do not need a vein for vaccinations, it is just given hypodermically- under the skin. So literally all you have to do is scruff the dog, put the needle there and voila. Clearly something is going on in her head!
  3. Has anyone heard of this? It is overseas at the moment and looks like fun! I think 2 of my 3 dogs would love this. http://www.barnhunt.com/ Is there anything similar in Australia? I'd guess not, as it is relatively new and we are behind on things a bit, but thought i check.
  4. I know some vets do charge quite a lot for basic stuff but using my own vet as an example.. they do discounts/free work for rescues, are an NDN member, offer pensioner discounts and even if you qualify for none of those, are generally pretty cheap. The senior vet is definitely not rich and I've actually seen him out the front before, doing their gardening. If one of these discount clinics opened up near us, our clinic would go under and we'd actually have no choice but go to one of the very expensive clinics (seeing as they'd probably be able to remain afloat).I've been seeing the same vet since I was 8 (with my first ever cat) and the kind of relationship and trust you build with your vet is worth the extra few dollars, I think. Not all vets are like that. My vet drives a Beamer, lives on acres in one of the most prestigious addresses on the Central Coast and is building a mansion on the beach at the moment but he never rips anyone off, offers payment plans for people that genuinely can't afford it and understands that people do struggle. I've been going to him for 20 years, he's a hard man but fair. The vet i have found sounds a lot like yours, more so yours Maddy, as the clinic itself is small and slightly tired looking on the outside, and she drives and old car- so i dont think she's rolling in it. But she is a lovely lady, says it how it is, and wont rip you off at all. I found her after going to 2 different vets who did not think this way...
  5. It actually seems very popular/busy. And when I first heard about it, it did sound like a good idea. I suppose the reason I was curious about other peoples' thoughts was the impact it would have on other clinics in the area. A vet nurse friend posted about that issue, pointing out vaccines/worming/check-ups were core services that help to cover more expensive services (like desexing) for regular clinics. Pet Aid says they're cutting their overheads by not providing those services, which suggests they're expensive to offer. So.. for regular clinics, losing the bulk stuff could actually drive up prices for things like desexing/other surgery/diagnostics, which doesn't actually benefit the community in the long term. And the more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to agree with her. If this is true, which makes sense to me and I feel it is. More of these may open, which will drive all independently owned vets broke It will only be greencross left. And i am not sure how I feel about that..
  6. Brilliant. Never let the size of your dog stop you from doing activities. Exactly. And we don't win much, but they're always so happy to be participating- which is the main point :D
  7. Nothing unusal here- just boring agility  But my agility dogs are a little unusual. not too many cavs doing it- considering most cavs i see around are roly poly beasts. So maybe it is a little unusual. I also plan on giving Kokoda a go at coursing as he loves chasing things :D My previous Cav used to ride the body boards at the beach. He LOVED it!
  8. Is that as well as the Augustine products too,Yonjuro? I am liking what I am reading. A corner appears to have been turned. Horrible Herbert is not eating poop any more. Paws crossed it was just a fad. :) Yes it is :) I will say that I don't know if it is necessary but for me if it aint bloke don't fix it. The AA super boost is pretty cheap to feed anyway. Hopefully this little bit of info on what I feed won't turn into a heated debate on the merits of AA though :) That is great news that Horrible Herbert is not eating poo anymore I add probiotics and vitamins at times too. Nothing wrong i feel with adding some extra :)
  9. Definitely worth a shot. My boys are all very healthy- my rescue boy who used to itch constantly and had the grossest ears (dirty and smelly) now doesnt have either of those issues!
  10. Ok, Lets see if this works! You cant send files in pm's didn't know that. But hopefully everyone here can get access to this! This is for the dals specifically: http://www.filesnack.com/files/cd1nw3jt This is a beginners guide to PMR: http://snk.to/f-ctkiol5p I havent read all of the 2nd- but it seems very thorough, and haven't any of the 1st but I know many dal people in the group found it super helpful.
  11. 1. Yes 2. Maybe- there are times that if i had a trusted breeder I would get a puppy from imported sperm or a stud dog whom i have not met. In fact I have done so with my previous dog- never met his sire but did meet his dam. Many horses are bred with studs and you do not meet the sire. 3. Yes ETA: After moving we purchased a dog from a breeder we previously used, and did not meet either of his parents. Just relied on the breeders judgement and our past experiences with all of their dogs and he was shipped to us at 8 weeks.
  12. There is some debate about whether dogs are obligate carnivores or not, so the garin thing is debatable. Also on a case by case basis- some dogs just dont suit raw whereas y dogs are now thriving without grains. You should join the FB group 'Raw feeding friends' as there is a document there about raw feeding for dalmations and a really good 'beginners guide to Prey model raw" Its a super helpful place :) If you aren't on fb, pm me and I can download and send them through to you. I get my liver from the butcher, it is fresher than the woolworths livers. I also give kidneys to my guys, but some can be fussy about them. I also have a source of green tripe now. Not an organ but good to add in. Brains, spleens, etc are all organs I have heard people feed, but have never had a source of here is Brisbane. So i alternate between liver and kidney :) I give it once or twice per week, depending on the size of the chunks i have pre frozen. be careful giving too much liver at once as it can cause stomach upsets. ETA: the only veggies my guys get are small tidbits from my dinner plate and not very often
  13. Beautiful! I can see the love between them- so amazing :)
  14. Our oldest family dog was 14 or so. Bought as a German shepherd from the petshop, but we believe GSD x ridgeback. She had a longcoat GSD companion who we had to pts due to her hips, and once her buddy was gone she just declined dramatically We pts as she just didnt seem happy anymore and it was he time. I believe if her friend had lived longer- she would have too. Unfortunately MY own dog- my first - he was 7. He died from a stroke, heart attack or similar but i didnt have a necropsy done so will never know for sure. My others are here now at 5,3 and 18 months and I am hoping i am doing something right to keep them around for a while!
  15. i have a jar of treats- it has shark cartilage, these mussels, VAN healthy dog treats and another glucosomine treat. They get one of these things once a day when i leave for work. And they are so excited to get outside on their mats for the mussels that sometimes i feel unloved
  16. instincto are great to deal with, and their products are great, so i hope you find someone in nsw!
  17. I own cavaliers, but just LOVE GSD's. I will own one oneday :) I saw one the other day, a 9 month old long coated male. He was my dream dog. I actually "Sqeeee'ed" and asked to pat him, and his owner thought i was nuts He gave good cuddles too!
  18. I have 3 boys, but they are all the same breed and small dogs. Not hard at all, and I love having them all :) You get good at patting 3 dogs at once
  19. Deniki: He has eyes for me only. he is such a mamas boy haha kokoda: He is a sweetheart, and he gets into these playful moods and his ears prick up really high which is hilarious and adorable. And he likes to talk to me with growls. Also if he's had a big day and he's sleeping, when you move him he will 'mmrrrr' (not quite a growl, nor a moan. A mix of both really) which i love :) Henry: He is just a sook. But when he gets the zoomies it makes my day :) He also barks at me when i havent fed him fast enough while preparing dinner.
  20. Denali, good searching... they're both lovely dogs. And in Qld. I was searching Pet Rescue, too... & found this adorable young Lab X girl called Nova in NSW (7 months, maybe a bit young). Then I saw she's not available for interstate adoption!!! http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/313846 There's also 2 Qld registered breeders on Dogzonline Labrador page with female adult Labs for pet homes. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/mature/labrador-retriever.asp She is gorgeous! SHame about the interstate thing. Oh well, you will find someone perfect :) The two qld older dogs are also both gorgeous.
  21. They're both young. But their eyes just look so loving http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/313453 http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/310207 Also agree that there is nothing that you did wrong with your other baby. Sometimes horrible things happen. ETA: Have no personal experience with two females, all my dogs are male, however i have heard that having two female dogs can, and wont always, cause issues. But don't narrow your search to gender. I was set on getting a female dog the first time round, but just fell in love with her brother- it just felt right. No regrets either!
  22. Interesting. I went to buy some normal blackhawk cat food today from my petshop and they always have it, but didn't today, so maybe they had this and I couldn't see it as it looks different! Will have to give it a try.
  23. I have used the Plush Puppy Reviva coat on my hair a few times now as my conditioner has been out and its kept in the bathroom cupboard  And the dog brush if i cannot find my own. And also the cool coats on my arms if we are out walking. I went to petbarn the other day to be confronted by a staff member eating treats out of the bag. They were new stock, and she said the ingredients looked good and she wanted to know what they tasted like. I refused when she offered me one though.
