5 Ways *some* People Screw Up Their Pet
denali replied to madredeperros's topic in General Dog Discussion
#3- the overfeeding of pets is one of my greatest pet peeves. Especially when people tell me my dogs are starving -
This sounds amazing, and I love the effort you're going to! My dogs are pretty much happy if theres a tunnel, a high point and a running track and often run from these two things in a circuit  So your original tunnel under a hill is perfect for my guys! You could also buy some kids play tunnels and take them out every now and again to vary it a bit. You can get them from bunnings and are easily packed up and stored inside :) I also love the cardboard bits to rip up- i have a shredder in my house too.

So sorry PuddleDuck. Its never easy. RIP Doof. I can tell you were very much loved by PD and the family. As I grew up we did this. Planted a tree over their body, i love going back there to see the trees now :)

Mine are fed twice. AM- sometime between 6am and 9am PM- usually around 6. Sometimes skipped if its a training night. One always goes in the morning when let out, the other guys go while i am at work so anytime between 9 and 4.30 ish. Dont know when  And only once or twice a day, depending on what they're fed that day. Also find that running gets them going

Sentinel Spectrum? Recommendations Please!
denali replied to Skysong's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use comfortis as the sentinel wasn't working. I am guessing it is because of the way it works, never knew it didnt kill fleas, and we have many loose cats in the area so new fleas were always about. The comfortis is working well, but panoramis would be great for the worming side of it! May have to try that, i was put off as it is the same ingredient as sentinel and i figured it wouldn't work here either. -
I cannot for the life of me recall which one we used. I am hoping it will come to me today.

I love the plush puppy shampoos :) We used one where i used to work, don't remember which one it was, but it smelt lovely, but in a toned down not overpowering way, which was great With the oil you could do an oil wrap? I did it once for a dog with really dry fur and it seemed to work well :) You put the oil on, and then wrap the dog in a damp warm towel for a bit. This open follicles to optimise oil absorption. With the towel you can dampen it and microwave it, or put it in a dryer until warm. Or a heated towel rack if you have one of them. Just make sure it isnt too warm. then leave it on the dog until its cool. Obviosuly supervise to ensure she isnt too hot. Some common sense is needed here, but i have heard others swear by this and it seemed to help that one dog i tried it with. So maybe give that a go? Fish oil capsules seem to work well for my guys. I never noticed a difference with coconut oil fed to them, but the fish oil capsules from woolworths have done an awesome job :)

I'm Officially A Sad, Disturbed Dog Owner...
denali replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
hahahah that review! Awesome costume. I expect many pictures! -
Mine aren't too bad. Deniki ate the rubber around the french doors, and has stripped our bamboo of its lower foliage as he has a bit of an identification crisis and think she's a panda.. My previous dog had an undie and sock fetish. Until about 2 yrs old he'd eat the crotch of undies.. Ofetn you wouldn't notice until you went to put them on  My cat is worse. he loves to chew Iphone cords and headphones. Only these ones as they are rubbery-er than other cords, but very annoying.. ETA: Henry the new rescue, has taught them to scrounge through the bin and lick things in the dishwasher if its open And this morning Kokoda jumped onto the dining table to come and sit in front of me and beg for toast.. from the floor-to chair-to table. My guess is because i taught him to jump on the chair to put his harness on so i dont have to bend over

My three cavs fit your needs perfectly. 2 of them don't shed much at all. One does, but with brushing and a good diet this has decreased tremendously. And none of them have health issues. They are 1,3 and 6. No heart, patella, ear or eye issues *touch wood! They are usually walked once a day, but one of them is injured at the moment so none of them have gone out for 2 days now and no one is too concerned about it! There are 3 of them now, but i previously had a cav who was an only dog and alone while we were out (school hours) and Kokoda was an only dog for 2 years and had no issues. You just have to give them attention and let them follow you around when you do get home. Mine just sleep during the day whether i am home or not  ETA: yopu just have to get one from a breeder that A: does all the health tests and B: doesn't have extremely heavily coated dogs. You can also clip them. I clip Henry as he had skin issues, and it also cut down shedding, so i keep him in a 'cockerlier' cut  Just like a mini cocker spaniel :) it grows back normally every time for those concerned about that

I saw two Scottish terriers do that very thing to a badly behaving dog. The Scotties just put their noses in the air and trotted past, they never even looked at the other dog. It was really funny Legends!

Wish I lived nearby! That would be fun!

I made one of these! I saw it on better homes and gardens i think- years ago! I have no idea where it is now, but I will have to make some more :)
-
I wouldn't say I am 'very good' at all, not terrible, but not amazing like some. We aren't even up to competition standard yet, but it still impresses passerbys and non-doggy people :) I can imagine you would get that, impressive that people also know what samoyeds are though! I know what you mean Huski, sometimes i just don't know what to say when complimented. I just smile awkwardly usually  ETA: Huski, not juski..

I like those comments more than the "Beautiful/pretty dog" comments I often get them about my boy being well behaved in public or if someone sees us doing flat work in a park. Don't be embarrassed be proud! This reminds me of my little ‘fans’ at the park. I have a park around the corner that I like to take my agility practice equipment to as it is really quiet and rather unknown. Its on a quiet street and the kids from a house across the road (I would guess around 5 and 7years old?) often come over to watch. They now keep camping chairs near their gate and will come and set up to watch hahah Though Henry is the only name they remember, the little girl calls Kokoda ‘cicada’ and Deniki’s name is Tina (he’s a boy..) The parents came and introduced themselves the other day to check that the kids never got in the way, and the man asked if I put my training on youtube because it is so good :) It was lovely.

O..................k...............................
denali replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was trying to shape my dog to go around a cone, and that is what he was offering instead. So hilarious to watch  -
Are you sure that's the real reason? Our park always has heaps, and people often take a handful. I'd imagine they pay barely anything for those rolls at parks, I'd be willing to bet that wasn't the real/only reason. Me too- i think your council may have had other reasons. Being one of those 'greedy people that take a handful' But the rolls we have out in our council last forever, and there is two or three at each park. And we have never not had a day without bags at any of the local parks. So I will keep doing what i am doing, others there will too. After the initial taking of 8, you really only take one each time to stock back up to full, so i don't think its that bad considering if my dogs were IN the park for the hour or so i walk, they would certainly use a few of the bags between the 3 of them. I leave plenty for other dog owners, and so do the other people at the park, so i am guessing those in your area who literally take the whole roll (is that what you are saying?) are rather inconsiderate.

We travel a lot also. We take the dogs with us as much as possible, but for the short interstate trips or longer overseas trips that just cant happen. So in the past we have both had someone live in our house with the dogs and cats, and taken the dogs to a friends house. We have never left them with anyone that we dont know, they are usually long time friends, workmates or family. I have never had to pay for boarding, or a kennel, and i do not know how one of my 3 would cope in an environment like that. The reciprocal dog sitting is a good way to go when you have 1 dog, but thats a bit harder with 3
-
I meta nova scotia duck tolling retriever and said he was lovely. And they were like " you know what he is?! " ETA: They then looked at me funny and questioned why i knew what he was haha just a dog nerd :D
-
I just bought one of those dispensers, its shaped like a bone, and now stuff it with the bags from the dog park.. They're black AND free! (though technically rate payers are paying as am I, so you could argue that, but still  ) ETA: only 8 bags are easily stuffed in, but we have 3 dog parks around so easily grab more on the way through.

What Stupid Stuff Do You Say To Your Dogs?
denali replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
Im not so much into the "give mummy kisses" nor do i call myself their mummy. BUT i do talk to them about what i am doing, talk about their brekkie and brushing, and I have 1,300 photos on my phone and i would say 95% of them are dogs. The other 5% either sunsets, clouds or food  ETA, yesterday at the dog grooming salon I work at, a lady wanted to buy her dog a bed, her dog was in being groomed and she was like "do you think she'd rather the pink, or the orange?" I just laughed and said i would go ask her if she wanted  She went with black and white spotted in the end. -
Its like you read my mind. I was going to say that I dream of the patches too haha But i didnt want to convince myself into buying 3 IDC's..
