Have You Already Picked Out Breed/name For Your Next One?
denali replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dog names are themed, war type things. So I have a rather hefty list of names i love to choose from :D And breed wise, i dont know if i want a GSD or a cav next - i know, very different. But i have breeders for both picked :) The cats just get random names. Current kitty is Todd (named after the fox from Disneys Fox and the Hound- because she found todd the fox in the movie, and I found todd the cat!) -
ooh. I need one of these!

he has a wire one at home, so i assume he is ok in a crate :) I have a soft crate, and it has a door in the long side, so its possible to get one :) A lot of people at agility have these:http://www.k9softdogcrates.com.au/ I have had an animates one (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Animates-Dog-Collapsible-Soft-Crate-/301127354680) and a bono fido one, http://d1y8akoq438vzy.cloudfront.net/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/750x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/1/1/119891_1_n_bono-fido-soft-kennel_2.jpg. Both have lasted a long time, but i only have a small dog, and he doesnt try and escape the crate at all. So very little pressure is placed on either.

Very clever using screwdrivers! ETA: will definitely keep this in mind. Thanks for sharing! -
A friend of mine emailed me the other day, wanting some advice about her Lab. She says he is a pain to take for walk because he pulls like a freight train, so they bought im a halti, and now all he does is walk along, and drag along the ground, trying to get the halti off. the other issue is that he gets overexcited and jumps and licks. What would you recommend to fix these specific issues? I think he needs to be taught how to deal with his excitement, as i would say thats whats causing the pulling too? But i dont really know hahah TIA!

wow! definitely worth pulling over for

love the tigger! so cute :) ours arent super long lasting as the dogs like to play tug with them and that ruins a lot of the soft ones. We have stitched countless toys back together haha But they do last 2+ years usually (with the 'trips to the ER!')

he is lovely! so handsome :) And i love the picture of him on the log :)

Mama elephant with a super sized pooper scooper - What a visual image!!! Thank you for the giggle! Elephants with young can be overly protective and may easily choose to ignore training in favour of keeping the youngsters out of perceived danger. In India, they removed baby elephants from working mothers and trained the infants separately, otherwise the mothers were too unreliable to work for a year or more. I much prefer the herding to that horror. I definitely agree. I dont think the dogs were hurting these elephants at all. And a DEFINITE improvement from those elephant pokers that horrid places use Maybe they will catch on with the herding.

Think i may have seen you there! there was a lovely looking Whippet that looked like the one in your picture :) We didnt walk it, and didn't buy tickets, but we were there doing an agility demo for the chermside one. I love doing the demo as it is an awesome environment to practice in, lots of noise, people and dogs.

Supplement Suggestions For Young Dog.
denali replied to Steph M's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have just recently started using both Show Stopper and Super fuel. I use the SS with Henry and Kokoda, and the SF with Deniki. Henry and Kokoda are looking awesome now coat wise I am seeing results with Deniki but his coat isn't as shiny or soft, thoughthe super fuel is working in that he has more energy and is bulking up a bit. -
congrats!

Video in the link :) http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/video/10153815-dogs-play-big-role-for-elephant-handlers-at-pittsburgh-zoo/ PITTSBURGH (KDKA/CBS) - What makes a gigantic African elephant tuck its tail and run? A pair of 25-pound dogs at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. Two Australian cattle dogs - Major and Zeta - give the staff at the zoo a buffer zone when dealing with pachyderms. "If you are dealing with, say, a dangerous animal it kind of gives you that added advantage to 'the elephant's not so focused on me,'" said Willie Theisen of the Pittsburgh Zoo. "Now the elephants have to watch that dog to see what they are going to do so that they are going to become actually more responsive to me." When the dogs are not working, they go out and interact with the public, and they love when people pet them. Theisen said, to his knowledge, the zoo in Pittsburgh is one of two places in the Northern Hemisphere that uses dogs to herd elephants. One of his friends uses the technique in the Canadian facility, where Major and Zeta were trained.

How Long Did It Take For You To Be Ready For Another Dog?
denali replied to ro11's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dog passed away in January 2011, and i got another one in April However, I was totally devestated when he passed away. It was extremely sudden and he was only 6 going 7 years old. I did say i was going to wait a year, but i just couldn't live without a dog for that long. Thats when Kokoda came along :) -
Sounds perfect to me!
