  1. Sorry to hear A pup of the same breed as Vinnie?
  2. Love the name Mason! So cute! but either is fabulous :)
  3. Oh- those are so cute! *Stares ate pile of leads and collars* We definitely need new ones :D
  4. I have always loved the wahl clippers best :) But i would suggest holding each clipper in your hand before you buy, as some can be really heavy, or just feel 'wrong.' I have a friend who hates my clippers (wahl), but i am not a fan of hers (andis I think) haha The comb attachments are to get a longer cut, so if you were looking to leave their skirts but clip them shorter you could do so, but i think you could accomplish the same look with scissors. A good pair of scissors is necessary. Doesn't have to be a $200 pair or anything, but dog grooming scissors work much better than any others. Thinning shears/chunkers are also really good if you are planning on leaving skirts as these help blend the lines and thin out the puffy bits of their furnishings. As to what blade you want it depends on how short you want their coats! Most cockers i do are done with a 7, but I also do one with a 3 blade and leave his skirt and he looks lovely! 7 is ideal for summer. Maybe you want a 7 or 5 and then a longer blade? as the 7 and 5 are only a few mm different in length. But this is all up to preference. This is very good blog: http://petgroomingthegoodthebadthefurry.blogspot.com.au/ Maybe has some useful tips for you! Plus has lots of pictures and is fun to look at  Hope this helped just a bit. ETA: You will get a smoother cut if the dog has been washed and blowdried. I have an HV drier, but i groom professionally, so you may not need one of them. Heres a link anyway http://www.ebay.com/sch/Dryers-/146240/i.html?_nkw=dog+dryer&_frs=1 I have a double K brand but have used many other brands. You may be able to get away with a normal hairdryer on a cool setting :) Clean coats not only finish nicer, but they keep the blades better for longer!
  5. I'm wondering if it's some kind of neural tube defect. Just did some research on that, and think you could be right
  6. These are perfect :) I think mine will be getting new beach collars now!
  7. No advice re the lipomas. But I fed Ziwipeak- the dogs loved it and looked great! Just wanted to wish you luck and hope all goes well today. She is gorgeous
  8. Such good intentions but not very well thought out at all I think she was definitely negligent, but had no ill intentions so community service should suffice. At the very least her door should have been shut and hazard lights on! I would also like to know how the ducklings were walking, surely she could have changed lanes and left them be? Just a it of a pet peeve of mine- but the death of the 50 year old father is no less tragic than the girl who was 'only 16'.
  9. I only have little dogs, and they aren't gulpers, so all they do is chew the meat off and leave the bones when fed roo tails. Otherwise i too probably wouldn't feed them.
  10. oh dear poor dogs. Stupid owners. also some of them were just normal dogs.. the chihuhua's looked fine, and there was a pug too.. The winner And very curious as to what condition Quasimodo has.
  11. I second the trick training :) And the other ideas are all great too. I also wiggle around Denikis tug toy on the floor and make him chase it, recently tied it to a rope so it was easier for me, and he loves it. Gets him tired faster than fetch does, and dont need a large space to do it! He has to sit and wait for me to release him to chase it though, otherwise he gets too excited.
  12. these look pretty awesome! Quite pretty too.
  13. Excuse the ignorance, is the kelp added to food, or dissolved in their drinking water?
  14. I raw feed my dogs now. It works out cheaper for me than biscuits, but i was buying super premium biscuits like Taste of the Wild, earthborn and Ziwipeak. I buy as much on special as i can, and try to not buy anything over $9/kg. I did work it out once, how much it was roughly per dog per day but i cant find that spreadsheet, They get a rotation of things: chicken: mince ($2/kg so they get a lot of this!), necks, wings, drumsticks, frames, hearts, giblets, liver lamb:shanks, cutlets when on sale, got a bunch of 'BBQ chops' cheaply the other day, liver, kidney, roasts when on sale and cut into pieces. But lamb is one of the more pricey meats, so not a staple in my house. beef:mince, neck bones, tongue, heart, liver, cheeks, other cuts of steak type meat when on sale pork: boneless roast cut into chunks and frozen, ribs fish: sometimes given freezer burnt fish from friends who fish but wont buy fresh fish, canned sardines roo: chunks, tail bones eggs- i usually just give them raw, but sometimes scramble them :) And a fish oil supplement every other day. They are looking good, teeth are nice, and energy levels good :) No complaints so far. I will share the veggies i eat at dinner with them, but rarely as treats, not as a portion of their meals. I did have to buy a freezer though to store all of it, it also means that i can buy things when on special and not worry about using it straight away. I just got a second hand one. ETA: i went the raw route as one of my dogs is horribly allergic to grains and just itches like crazy and chews sores into himself. He hasn't had any issues since switching, and fingers crossed it stays that way! I used ziwipeak when i just had the one Cav, and he loved it! But now that i have 3 it was just a bit too costly. I still use it as training treats though :)
  15. A lot of greyhound owners in the QLD facebook group use the ozito rotary grinder :)
  16. she does look like a totally different dog from her puppy pics! But beautiful in both :) I think your basset is gorgeous. Kind of makes me want one hahah
  17. Love learning new things! and love the black blanket tris. So pretty :) Sorry for the OT..
  18. Ignore the killjoys. Puppies are exciting! Especially ones that have been planned for so long. The excitement just builds up! And basset puppies are adorable! Like I said there's a place that exists for this already, it's there so there isn't a gazillion " OMG I'm getting a puppy " threads clogging the place up. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/187172-waiting-for-a-puppy-this-thread-is-for-you/ The extra thread isnt hurting anyone. If people don't care they just wont open it. ETA: average people. Some will always come in to spoil the fun and share another similar post instead. ETA x 2: Kelpiecuddles, just a question. Are both of these considered tricolour? https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRm4codcWmckauwWp-HuUekInZ6fax89F1y75BAAoTXG6e6jUvb http://images.tradingpost.com.au/FM2LQBGH/MLCLFX/G22D-Resized320x240.jpg
  19. Kelpiecuddles thats so exciting! I am a bit puppy clucky at the moment too.. but wont be getting one for a few years now. I have my hands full with 3.
  20. me too, they look fabulous. excited now!
  21. Funny you say that actually, we had a cat live to 20 (almost 21!) fed purely on whiskas and snappy tom. And our GSD's lived to a good old age on supermarket brand dog food too. ETA: I tried herbal flea things with my guys, and they ended up infested and took months to finally get it under control. So it seems thats something I can't not give chemically.
  22. I think that is good advice, but sometimes its not something you can control, genetics can also have a part to play. My previous cav died at the age of 7, from a suspected stroke or heart attack. He was kept a good weight, walked daily, fed good food and given supplements, never had fleas, slept indoors on my bed, wore coats in winter etc. Essentially, there was no shortage of love, but sometimes things just happen. in a way I am glad he went the way he did, though it was sudden and heartbreaking. Genetics werent an issue in this case either, his parents and grandparents were still alive at 15ys. The only thing i do differently is keep my new dogs even slimmer again, and i feed them a raw food. I also havent been vaccinating yearly. But i dont know how much of a difference this actually makes. I also teach them more tricks etc. as i have started agility and know a bit more now. My previous boy was purely a pet.
