  1. Yes. Guilty... I want a GSD in the next few years, and torment myself on rescue sites...
  2. All the dogs in my street are large breed mixes, GSDx's, Labx's etc. All the dogs i groom are fluffy mixed breeds, shih tzu x, or the oodles :) The only purebred ones i see are at the dog park and they are labs, staffies and goldens mainly :) Not a huge variety here!
  3. I am going to look into their plans. You don't have any troubles with them at all do you?
  4. I saw this ad yesterday, and totally didn't catch the new sofa thing, i was completely distracted by the dog!
  5. So do you all recommend the spot ons over the edible forms of flea prevention? Because I am having so much difficulty with both my cats and dogs... The cats are on spot on and i have never seen a flea, but they do itch so i assume they are there, but the dogs are on comfortis.
  6. Excuse my ignorance, i only have small digs so i haven't had a particular need to worry about this, but i thought the torsion of the stomache was the fatal part of bloat. Is this not the case? What is actually involved in bloat?
  7. I know.. It's crazy the prices they charge. Walked past one today, they were selling kittens, Labelled as domestic short-haired,not pretending to be an eotic breed. They were being sold at $800! For a moggie! It was crazy.
  8. I have been grooming professionally for 3 years, I worked a year in a salon, and then I left. I couldn't stand the way they handled the dogs there.. They used choke chains to tether them too, and that terrified me. I have been grooming from home since. I am a year 12 student, so i just do a few dogs each weekend, and personally don't use a tether unless absolutely necessary. Probably a 1 in 100 type thing.
  9. I tried them on for size at our local pet shop, then bought the prettier colours online, because the only colours they stocked were black and purple.
  10. Partying very hard here too. He was on my lap helping me watch Better Homes and Gardens and licking my icecream bowl :) ETA: you can just see the other one too!
  11. I completely agree with this. My next dog will be a rescue, not for a couple of years, but i have told couple of people and that is their exact reaction. "Oh, don't do that, they're all damaged" Its a shame really.
  12. Is this a suggestion to casually change breeds and get a new dog cause the present dog doesn't live up to expectations? Could also be a little arthritis. I've seen dogs go from couch potato to energetic when put on NSAI's. It won't hurt to try an aspirin morning and night for a few days. If that ups her energy level you can be pretty sure it's the arthurs. (My vets have told me that aspirin at low doses for less than a week is quite safe, but check the dosage, and don't go long term). I don't think thats what the OP means at all. I can tell by their concern that they love their dog dearly, even if she can't run 5km every day any more. I hope she is alright, and it is something just as simple as stiffness or added weight. I have a friend with a vizsla who i sometimes take running, she could run for hours and she is such a sweet dog. But when it comes to vizslas i am picky with how they look, some of the vizslas in Australia have a funny face ( not a very nice way to put it, but IMO) and if i ever got one i would choose breeders based on dog health AND physical looks - being shallow as i am ;) GSP's are lovely dogs too, my family used to own them, and they also had plenty of stamina :) I have only ever met two EP's (owned by he same person) and to me they seemed to large to be ideal jogging companions. They kind of just plodded along at a slow pace. And they were young dogs too.
  13. I was bitten by a groodle today while grooming him. (Not seriously, it is all ok, he got my nail :) ) but all breeds can bite. I don't understand why average 'non dog' people don't understand this. It's safe to assume DOL'ers do. I have never had a problem with any bully breed that i've met. I agree with everything that has been said in response to this, however if done RIGHT this could be helpful, like sandgrubber said.
  14. I am part of a raw feeding group on facebook, and I have seen a couple of people on there who are feeding raw instead of the hills prescription diet that is recommended by vets and have been having great results. The groups is called 'Raw feeding Friends' and i am sure if you post in there one of them would be more than happy to share their experiences :) ETA: glad everything is ok :) I know how worried you must have been.
  15. I had an ezy dog one, http://store.ezydog.com/doggy-floatation-vest/ :) It worked very well :) Has a handle too, it is hard to see on the picture though :)
  16. I had an 'itchy' dog in the past, and he was always fine with the Fido's Tea Tree (i am not sure if that is the exact name of it, but it is tea tree and eucalyptus, green in colour.) You can definitely still use this even without a hydrobath :)
  17. What a grand choice of breed! I am sorry, i do not know of any breeders in VIC, so will leave that to someone else, but I did have to wait for all of our cavs. Totally worth it though!
  18. Wow. That is terrible. Shame on all the bad people of the industry. I am sure there are the good trainers who genuinely care for their dogs, but they are tainted by all these other low life people who dope an innocent animal.. Same here Wildthing, not extremely surprised at all. That would also be nice to know.
  19. That happened to me recently too.. But it wasn't a trainer. It was just a man and his young BC who refused to come to him. When he did finally go to him he yelled at him and pushed him to the ground while yelling "NO JUMPING!" No wonder the dog didn't want to come.. I couldn't stay there and watch that, so I had to leave.
