  1. I don't notice anything, sleep through everything, but apparently whenever i leave them with my sister they keep her up moving around and licking
  2. I have a friend who wants to get a dog. He is looking for a small to medium breed, that is easy to look after, good travellers, isn't too fluffy or feminine looking, happy to exercise but also ok to be left at home while he is at work without destroying everything. Grooming is also something he is ok with. i know a lot of it is management and training, but breeds help too :) so any suggestions would be great!
  3. Would have loved to but they are a bit too far away!
  4. This is good to know. My previous dog never found anything that worked... So I will commit this to memory (and hope I never need it) but it may be useful one day.
  5. How strange! Will do that. It's a simple enough test to do for some peace of mind :)
  6. I am not a Dobe person. But I don't think I'm wrong in saying that an awesome breeder could be infinitely better than any books or websites :) Maybe see if you can find a breeder willing to talk to you?
  7. Yes to this . The dog will improve all round . Also, is she actually using measuring cup to get the food? People tend to underestimate what a cup is (a mug, for example , is often closer to 2 cups). This is so true. The size of some of the cups that my dog sitting dogs have is enormous! She uses a royal canon measuring cup. Not sure if it is a metric cup, but I think it is.
  8. I second the paw paw ointment or Vaseline. My previous cav had a similar issue and these both helped tremendously.
  9. I agree. I don't think they care about the weight much. I guess i probably shouldn't either, but he snores like a freight train, wobbles around and has all of these health issues that i swear are related to his weight. Plus the excess weight is not good for a breed prone to heart issues.. Which is why i haven't given up on this yet. NIce suggestion with the carrots -good idea :) Thank you for the thyroid explanation. I personally don't think it was the full panel done. He does smell bad, but its not yeasty, I am not sure what it would fall under. Interesting idea. I feel like this isn't his problem, but i noticed it with one of my previous dogs, He always itched in summer, i thought it was heat, maybe it wasn't. Very interesting.
  10. It's life in the animal kingdom. Not always glamourous. Amazing capture!
  11. Good idea, Will try this. I have a CKCS, but he is slightly on the lean side as he is an agility dog, and like 98% of the population on the streets- she thinks i starve him haha i know someone with a more pet average sized one. So she may agree that he's nicer. Thank you, i'll suggest this. ETA: That makes sense, about the palatability and fat.
  12. Well it is true to some extent but it's also an excellent reason not to feed them as much food....having a dog desexed is a not an excuse to let them become a coffee table on legs. Yes, very much so. I think it is a good excuse for her :)
  13. That's bugger all. I'd like to know what snacks he gets too. I hope you can make your grandmother understand that her dog will live a much shorter life of less quality unless she gets his weight down. I know! I have tried explaining that and she just says "It's because he's desexed. The vest says his metabolism decreases by two thirds." Any research that show thats not the case?
  14. Can you give a quantity on that? Some people's "not much at all" is a lot of food to others. True. He gets about a 1/4 cup a day. And he eats it at night.
  15. He doesn't eat much at all, which is why I always thought thyroid. But u also think he may be snuck table scraps. Which could be the issue. I may have to suggest the premade. What about something like VAN?
  16. Ok, this isn't for my dog. It's my grandmothers dog. He is a cavalier King Charles spaniel, and he is super fat. Like obese. And he also itches a lot. He is currently fed a rotation of kibble brands that are classed as "light". He was on wellness weight control, and he is currently on an "obese" food. Not sure what brand. I believe his thyroid has been checked, but maybe that's worth doing again? I want some advice as to what food to feed. I want her to try raw food, I think it would benefit him greatly. But she won't. So what's the next best? And do you think the weight and the itching are related in any way? Like a food intolerance? Thanks in advance!
  17. Im hoping you visit this again so you see this reply! Did you strip it with a stripping knife as you would a terrier? or?
  18. Same as some others, two dogs, 0 afraid of storms. No option for 0 :)
  19. Wow he is such an adorably big boy! You have two very lovely dogs :)
  20. I did work experience at animal wellness in greenslopes, and they are all fantastic there :)
  21. i only have small dogs, and have a booter bath too :) But i carry a bucket of hot water out as we don;t have a hot water tap near the hose... Those baths that everyone has mentioned are great, i sometimes use them, if i don't feel like carrying a bucket out (lazy i know!) Mine you just pay $10 for like 15 minutes or something like that, and it has a water setting, shampoo, conditioner and flea and tick rinse, then a blow dryer, but i usually just towel dry them :)
