  1. Occasionally one of my pups will have a night of seeing ghosts, where they do that, but it's usually only once every few weeks, not regularly. Once it was REALLY creeping me out and I had to put her in a different room to sleep, and she slept okay after that, and so did I!
  2. We were referring to dogsaremyworld's statement :) Oh, okay. I was in a (really really) boring meeting, reading and replying on DOL on my phone under the table so must have missed that post lol
  3. Firstly, don't stop just because he makes a fuss, it just encourages him to flip out because it gets what it wants - it gets you to stop! Keep on going even though he's thrashing about like a wounded snake and he will eventually figure out that it doesn't actually hurt and if he stands/sits still it finishes a lot faster! When my pup was tiny I'd give her a pigs ear or a treat that would take her a long time to eat, and use that as a distraction while I brushed her. Now she doesn't quite jump for joy when she sees the brush come out of the drawer, but she doesnt run and hide either. She does get a yummy rare treat like cheese when brushing is finished, something she knows to look forward to.

  5. This. DOL is not the only place to see advertisements. We found our Aussie advertised on the Trading Post. I'm sure that's the case, but a blanket statement to look on gumtree is a bit unhelpful when someone has come looking for breeder recs, given the amount of BYB vs Regs on gumtree.
  6. Correct, yet I don't think BYB'ers should get the advantage of being able to call their products purebred, hence my opinion ;) Sounds like spite more than anything else, you should run by those words again and come to the realisation of just how absurd you sound, get over it, a purebred is a purebred whether it is born with a prefix or otherwise. No, not spite - betterment of breeds. Completey different things, and it worries me that you don't see the difference!
  7. Oh great I give up Don't worry, my pug trained my OH to give her a treat in order to come back inside, so you're not the first one to inadvertantly train something!
  8. Yep, pretty normal for a puppy! At 4 months she really shouldn't be out of training, so what you mean "start her training again?" Puppyhood is one long contiuious training session!
  9. This much is true....so getting antsy with everybody else because they are missing YOUR point is applying a tad bit of a double standard wouldn't you think? Nope, everyone can have an opinion, and everyone does have an opinion, they just kept misunderstanding me coz I'm known to babble and not actually say what I mean :p
  10. Oh, my pugs are lickers - the youngest has been known to leave big wet patches on my clothes from licking me without me realising! The other licks the bathroom floor everytime I'm in there, waiting for me to step out of the shower so she can lick the water off my legs. I prefer it to biting!
  11. Correct, yet I don't think BYB'ers should get the advantage of being able to call their products purebred, hence my opinion ;) But unfortunately there isn't anything much that you, or anybody else, can do about it until legislation makes it illegal for people to breed unregistered pedigreed (purebred) dogs. We have legislation in Tasmanian now to prevent BYBers from breeding unregistered cats, but I can't see anything like that happening for dogs for a long time, not whilst dog registrations are such large revenue raisers for government at various levels. There isn't, but there also isn't a law against opinions (yet ... am waiting for that to change soon too, thanks Julia!).

  13. No, it takes way more than one or two generations!!!! A 'Moodle' is not a breed so crossing two crossbreed dogs does not in the next generation magically create a pure breed!!!! (what you have Is an f2 cross) This is NOT what we have been talking about at all... You're still missing my point. This thread has people walking around making blanket generic statements saying a purebred dog is one that comes from two parents who are of the same breed. My point is, this statement is not correct. I know it takes more than one generation, I'm of the camp that believes purebred and pedigree go hand in hand, and without a pedigree one is not able to call themselves a purebred. My "moodle" example is one of the purebred crazyness gone mad. Even if the "moodles" grandparents were "moodles" it still doesn't make it a purebred, because it takes more than mere parentage.
  14. I'm fully aware of that, and I'm using that example to point out the flaw in most peoples logic of the "if both parents are the same breed then the resulting puppy is a purebred".
  15. Actually, my post didn't quote anyone, check again! It was directed at those who said a purebred is a puppy who has both parents of the same breed (as I stated in my post - is there an echo in here?)
  16. OFF TOPIC? what the? This is a thread about what a purebred is, I was just saying that we had gone off-topic by talking about matings.
  17. Strange comparison, let's compare oranges with oranges, shall we? :D. Moodles are NOT a recognised 'breed' so it's a moot point irrespective of what a naive salesgirl seems to believe. You cannot compare this example with my boy. His dam and sire do have papers which nullifies your comparison. Uh, I'm not sure why you believe this entire thread is about you?
  18. No - I'm going to dissect it. You've said before this wasn't her first litter. Plus you don't apply for a prefix once the mating has already taken place! And a reputable breeder didn't breed this litter ... teenagers did. So you're telling me that if the breeder was at home instead of being in hospital, the litter would have differed somewhat? That's something worth pondering about, lol. As regards to the prefix.....as I said long story which is why she didn't get around to a prefix, I can't be bothered writing a novel of epic proportions; at the end of the day I am happy with Beau and what's more, he doesn't suffer from tear stains nor do his parents, something that I was forewarned by other breeders concerning their pups. Totally It apparently doesn't make a difference in the BYB world, but in the world of purebreds and registered matings - yes, it makes a huge difference.
  19. I was in a petshop on the weekend and overheard the salesgirl assuring someone their "moodles" were purebred, as both the parents were "moodles" So, most people in this thread would agree then, that since both the puppies parents were "moodles" then that puppy was indeed a purebred puppy! Personally, I don't agree with your theory and it takes more than both parents being the (apparent) same breed for a puppy to be a purebred, and I definitely wouldn't quote wikipedia as a reliable source if you want to be taken seriously lol
  20. No - I'm going to dissect it. You've said before this wasn't her first litter. Plus you don't apply for a prefix once the mating has already taken place! And a reputable breeder didn't breed this litter ... teenagers did.
  21. Thats a real worry that a breeder would not be careful enough about her breeding to bother with a prefix. I hope she bothered to observe the mating. I would not be calling my dog a purebred unless I had the papers to prove it. Something tells me her dogs are probably not even mains registered...
  22. I read the whole article in the paper, I liked that they linked a lot of health issues back to bad diet (and promotion of such from the per food companies) and advocated fresh/raw meaty bones be included in a dogs diet.
