  1. Can you call her a Kelpie x ... not a Staffy x ?
  2. I'd never give my dog coffee, or any caffiene, regardless if it was off my spoon or not! But no, I'm not a huge fan of sharing utensils with my dogs. And definetly not picking them up and bringing them to the table. I'll give them bits of my toast under the table sometimes though, because they love vegemite toast lol
  3. Im the same my pup came home and slept straight through, no crying, shes still the best little sleeper into bed at 9.30 (any later and she gets cranky haha) and not up till 7 when i get up in the morning (or 8 - 8:30 on weekends). My second pup is the best sleeper in the world, he gets cranky when my alarm goes off, glares at me and buries back down into the covers for more sleep! He will happily sleep through breakfast on the weekends, if little miss early riser doesn't wake him up to play.
  4. Good luck :) I had a pup last year who decided any time between 4am and 5am was her wake-up time and nothing was going to change her mind. She's now 10 months old and is gradually growing out of this routine and now sleeps till a grand time of 5.30am or 6am Interacting with them will be encouraging them to wake up and stay awake, as will feeding them. Do they quieten down if you throw them a bone or treat that takes a long time to eat? How much do they sleep during the day, and what time do they go to sleep at night? Does keeping them awake longer at night help them sleep later? (It doesn't for my pup, but it might for yours!) When I came here crying for the same advice - everyone said to put the puppy on the bed ;) (edited to add that this didn't work to get her back to sleep until she was about 8 months old, and even now she needs to run around and be feral for a bit before settling back down)
  5. Smart girl! My guys use each other as pillows all the time too, it's cute :D
  6. Personally, this time of year I'd be starting heartworm, even if under 6 months of age, because the mozzies are starting to come out (depending on where you live). I just started my 4.5 month old, even though I'd normally wait until closer to 6 months.
  7. Can you put it up higher, or cover some of it so she can't see inside the cage, and can't see the little ratties teasing her?
  8. I think by too professional I mean intimidating. Instructors can be intimidating, especially for someone newish to the dog world who wants to go to obedience with their stubborn teenage brat pug. I probably just need to toughen up :p
  9. Seems a long time - have you called again to ask? Often I get the "we will call when the results come in" from my vet, but I end up having to call as they either get too busy and forget, or it just slips through the cracks.
  10. What was the reason why you stopped training your dog? OK, so we went to puppy pre-school (shhh) and I planned to step up to primary school but I didn't really like the trainers, and I didn't feel they offered enough "out of the box" suggestions for when their method of teaching the dog something didn't work. Do you feel your dog is well trained enough? Nope, I'd love to do some obedience with her. She recalls well enough when she wants to, and will do other things when she wants to, but I'd like more consistency. And she doesn't walk well on the lead, and I can't figure out how to help that! Did you not get results from previous training attempts? I got some, but most of it was me listening to them, finding out what didn't work for my dog, and having to find my own ways to make it work, which felt a bit pointless. Is training too far away/ too often/ too expensive? Are you simply too busy? Did you find training boring? I haven't looked again recently, but all the ones I looked at in my area seemed too professional, and it's just me with my pug puppies so I want something more casual that still fits in with my time schedule (week nights, no weekends, etc) What would prompt you to start training again or would you not start training again regardless? I do want to look into training again, this thread has sort of prompted me to re-think and look in other areas/places not just my immediate local area.
  11. Hah, this was my first thought when I read the post!
  12. I think something to explore is why you find being old so offensive?
  13. I think you're being a bit sensitive. I doubt the people who say it are meaning to be mean, they are just commenting on what they see in front of them. If mean, if he had a green coat and people commented on that, would you be offended? I don't get offended when people comment how young and little my puppy is - age is a fact of life, whether it be young or old, or inbetween!
  14. Hi there yeah i agree i want to make it my own i have come up with a few mixing my kids names and places i used to live, the ones i came up with dont sound right though here are some:Anadem Madamed,Mandira,Hanaper, sanweirey,Weirey,Reyawei. They are an amalgam of dean,Mandy, andrina. I prefer the names you guys are coming up with though lol I like Mandira, and Hanaper. I think the ones with the breed name in them are over-done as well, and you have some really good ones there from your names.
  15. You'll probably find, that like human food, it's a "best before" date anyway, not an expiry date. +1 on the preservatives - and they would also probably cause them to never go off, and never trust a food that doesn't go mouldy (ie: maccas burgers :p )
  16. WeiDe NeedWei (sort of "dean" backwards!")
  17. My female pup humps my leg when she gets excited (oddly enough most often when I'm picking up her poop!), but she knows the "off" command so I give her that and she reluctently gets off (er, bad choice of words!). I guess my advice would be to teach the owner to teach the pup a command to get off when she humps or does something she doesn't want her to be doing :p
  18. My pug swims like a stone, but she loves the water
  19. If it does you could sew it back on
  20. Someone on my FB posted a pic of a human squashed into a dog crate, with the dog looking on saying "not much fun, is it?" and I'm resisting the urge to comment on all the things wrong with that picture so as not to create drama, but seriously. Actually, it wasn't even a friend, it was a company I "like"! Hey Pup - Pet Linen & Bedding. Odd thing for a pet bed companny to put up!
  21. People need to learn registered breeder does not equal ethical breeder. Some registered are no better than a BYB. You've hit the nail on the head, minimax, I've learnt that lesson the hard way, that not all registered breeders are ethical. What I meant was that I would have thought that not all breeders of blue staffies were unethical Anyone breeding purely for colour, and not for the betterment of the breed (is betterment a word?) really can't be ethical, because they aren't breeding for the right reasons. But is it not possible to breed for colour and consider other issues that affect the breed, i.e. congenital health issues, conformation, etc ?? Let's face it, most breeders, breed for colours that appeal in the show ring.....for example, through my researching of the pom breed, I learnt that darker colours do much better in the show ring than light coloured poms; white german shepherds are sneered at although they are perfectly healthy, etc etc. Yes, but then they aren't breeding purely for colour, are they? They are breeding to show, therefor also breeding to standard. People breeding blue staffies aren't breeding to standard. Back on topic now, sorry :)

  24. Noooo it's too young :/ What breed? Most states have a law that says puppies need to be 8 weeks old to be sold, so I'm presuming QLD does. Is this from a registered breeder?
