I never found anything that worked in getting my puppy to settle, and no one ever had any helpful suggestions for getting her to settle at night other than "let her sleep on the bed with you" so I look forward to anything anyone has to offer in this thread!

They haven"t contacted me but told my driver they were upset and knew I was angry with them AND BY THE WAY WE WOULD LIKE OUR COLLAR AND LEAD BACK! well that just said it all for me.I honestly couldn"t give a @#@#@#@#@# how they feel they came to my house on several occasions I sat in their car for hours and ech time they big noted how great they were and how they did this and that -------------we had long conversations about clara and how she may react and how best to deal with it I thought Id covered all bases but in the end they said all the right things yet didn"t do any of them clara will stay with us she slept heavily during the night and was happy this morning I learn from this I HOPE they do ------------------------ Uhm, seriously? Wow, bizzare to go through that whole process of adopting a dog to only end up with that attitude. I'm so glad she's in a house that loves her now, even if she had to go through a bit of an ordeal to get there.

This situation isn't unique to dog parks(the OP didn't even say it was a dog park, just that it was a park and a dog was off-leash, this could be an on-leash park and a dog was off), so merely saying don't go to dog parks isn't helpful. Does anyone have any helpful tips, I'd be interested too.

Thanks minimax. I think I should have been more specific with my question. Suggestions of place where people have bought them with positive feedback. Somewhere is NSW would be preferable. lol sorry, fair enough. why not go with them direct? or ebay, as others have said ebay is usually cheaper.

Lots of unis around there, can you get someone to hand out flyers around there today and ask around if students have seen her? Also lots of restaurants, might she gravitate towards back lanes where garbages are, or more towards where people are?

Just an FYI, it might seem pedantic, but if you go around saying she's hypo people will think you mean underactive. You actually mean hyper, which means hyperactive/overactive. But she's so cute, she's got those eyes which scream innocence ;)

Is this recent behaviour? If the kid is 16 months old, it's not really a new addition to the dogs home so has anything else changed recently? Are you forcing the interaction between them when previously (when the kid was younger) you kept them separated? Is it possible to keep them separated and not within arms reach?

Sounds like an adult pug would fit the bill perfectly. My pug doesn't shed much - some say blacks shed less than fawns (but then the black personality is crazier to make up for it!)

Pet shops activly support the BYB industry by buying their products so often, doesn't this make them "worse"? To a degree both industries support the other, take one away and the other will still exist, but struggle for a while until it picks up market elsewhere. Taking away BYB might force pet shops to source their animals from better places though, whilst taking away pet shops won't make BYB create better animals. A lot of the questions/answers we've come up in this thread would be irrelevant for pet shops as they are mostly cross breds from BYB, and wouldn't be registered or have papers or pass any health checks.

Most dogs respond to their name and 100000 nicknames, so it really is the humans that have an attachment to their names, not the dogs.

Why risk the safety of a new pup? edit: when I got my pup the crate I had didn't fit into the car, and she was too small for a collar or harness so I had http://www.worldforpets.com.au/products/product_detail.asp?ID=623 one of those and she went in there for the first month or so. it also taught her that whenever she was in the car, to just curl up and sleep, because the lid went on to reduce stimulation etc

I think if most breeders were presented with a list of generic questions like these ones from a potential buyer, they would roll their eyes. At least, that seems to be the attitude from what I've seen on DOL. These questions might be appropriate to ask when buying from a pet shop or dodgy person, but as this thread proves, not one set of questions is appropriate for every puppy or every breed or every breeder.

Interesting that you think BYB is "worse" than buying from a pet shop, considering that's where most pet shops get their stock from Health checks is a valid question. Surely even dogs without HD or known genetic issues have vet checks before breeding etc?

My pup gets hiccups all the time, at first I worried she was about to puke (because she does the same hiccuping noise before she pukes) but now she just gets them randomly, and sits there with this confused look on her face of "muuuum make it stop!"
