Jet is a 9 month old collie? He won't need clipping, this can ruin the coat and make it grow back thicker in the long term. What did you do when he tried to nip you?
-
i'd use a slicker on the feathers and a bristle brush on the body and strip out the fur when necessary. double sided brushes are usually totally rubbish.
-
i find the only part of a clipped springer to grow in thicker is the brown parts of the coat, even then it isn't to bad. The springers I groom get done 2 or 3 times a year and aren't heavy coated after years of clipping.

if the dog is young and still has growing to do and the cause of the blindness is cataracts, then they were formed about 3 weeks before the pup was born, as the dog and eye grows from that point, the eye will be able to see more around the cataract. Dogs can cope well with partial or full blindness, it depends on how busy the home is though

BBs seem to average about 5 or 6 pups per litter, some having up to 9, from looking at the breed records.

has anyone used the vacuum attachment you can get to groom pets?

What Brand Of Clippers/size Blade For Westie Coat?
becks replied to Alexis's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would use a 5f on the body, unless the coat is very thick, then the skin will show through if clipped shorter. A 10 blade is useful for clipping the tips of the ears. -
Congrats on the pups, hope all goes well with the younger bub

Mars Coat King, Furminator Or Something Else?
becks replied to ~Aimee~'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
yes but a stripping knife is not meant to be sharp and if left sharp, that is why some people butcher a coat with them. I just don't get a design with sharp edges not being used to cut coat, and them selling replacement sharp blades.... -
I had a regrown one taken off and it just required one stitch, wasn't bandaged and was heeled up in a few days. I would take the dog with me when i take the cat, so they can assess the wound.

Mars Coat King, Furminator Or Something Else?
becks replied to ~Aimee~'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would use a fine comb with an elastic band wound through the teeth or just wear some thin rubber gloves and pull out by hand (which would be the method I'd use first.) If the coat king isn't supposed to cut coat, why does it have sharp blades and replacements?? -
did you use it on newly clean coat? any dirt in the coat, including bits of soil/sand in the paws will blunt a blade quicker then anything and can even chip out a tooth on the blade. generics - you get what you pay for!

Clipping Cavalier King Charles X Shitzu
becks replied to WildatHeart's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
a 7f against the hair growth is the same length as a 10 with the growth! btw it's shih tzu not shitzu -
I would oil them before putting them away, oil and let blades run for awhile, wipe off excess and then store somewhere dry or wrapped in the oillyy tissue you used to wipe off the excess. Roseline are a good make of scissor, not to pricey if you do drop them! Last well and stay sharp for along time. just remember to only work on a clean, dry coat.

It depends how short they want the coat and what size blade will do a neat trim. 5f or 7f would be short without going bald. -
Of the 3 sizes, the standard is often the most difficult to live with and owners need to be very dog savvy before taking one on. In the right home they aren't aggressive dogs but they can develop issues with weak or lazy owners.
-
Is the breeder not interested in using either of the dogs you want? A litter from each sire individually could give you more choice in the long term - just a thought!

Shih tzus over here tend to have a meaner temperament to a lhasa. If a dog air snaps at me, it will still get a muzzle on, I won't risk cutting the dogs face if it snaps at the wrong time. I have a notice up that if a dog puts itself or the groomer in danger, then the dog will be sent home. I have only so far done this once with a dog that was a little shit in the bath trying to bite me (shih tzu!!!). You can always tell a dog will be trouble when the owner tells you how good the dog was for a previous groomer and what a good job they did - yeah, so why have you had to go to a different groomer? lol

There is a blood vessel inside the nail, if you have never trimmed a dogs nails before I recommend you take pup to a groomer or vet nurse to trim them and show you how it is done.

Diet can be a trigger if certain things build up in the body. Rosemary is also a trigger. A friend makes sure to feed her dog 3 regular meals to keep the dogs blood sugar up, if a meal is late he can fit. She also keeps ice cream for after a fit to give him a sugar boost.

It maybe they have used a cheap and somewhat useless wormer. I would get a good quality wormer - Panacur, Drontal or milbemax from the vet and give that to her, then you can be sure she has been properly wormed. If she was handraised from 3.5 weeks, then she would have been old enough to start weaning from that age, so she should have been started on a good diet - what was she being fed when you got her?
