Looking at some of those photos from your link, I wonder if the owners have scissored the heads, throat and legs of some of these dogs and that is why they have such a profuse and pale colour in these areas? I've been grooming a Fauve (bit of a blind leading the blind as her breeder doesn't groom her own dogs, but takes them to her breeder for show grooms, so I am trying to do my best to look at her dogs when groomed, so see what I'm aiming for). Now the dog I do seems to have an average coat, so easy to strip just with fingers. She comes in every 3 or 4 months, sometimes for a tidy and others for the full coat to come out (as it is dropping out anyway) but even long, the coat still looks quite tidy. I would say it is similar to a Border Terrier coat. The Fauve coat seems to be one you can't roll as there just isn't the number of hairs per area to make it thick enough to be able to roll, so owners should be used to a variety of looks with their dogs coat.

You said grooming was just a good brush every couple of weeks, but what else needs doing with the coat eg. stripping them??

I agree, sort out the reason the eye is running first, then you can think about the staining (though if you sort out the cause, the effect will disappear)

Just put a cm onto the brush and wipe the paste along the gum line ( you can;t trying to scrub the teeth) dog toothpaste has an enzyme in it to do the work for you. Do one side and then put some more paste on the brush and do the other side of the mouth. If you mean red stain in the beard, you are probably stuck with it.

You could get the DAP spray and put it onto a neckerchief around the dog instead of the collar - it will last a lot longer.

Is It Okay To Feed Raw Pig Trotters?
becks replied to Aubrey's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd be wary of feeding fatty products to a breed prone to pancreatitis. -
My original table was a Tholo, still in good condition.

Forgot to mention, Giants can also get MRD multifocal retinal dysplasia, where the retina develops folds, in extreme cases the retina will detach

make sure you use a reasonable amount of ear powder before you start plucking, makes the whole thing easier. Yes, as a groomer i would be fine to just have a dog in for plucking ears, no real difference to soeone coming in for a nail clip

I've got the pyramid, only one of the dogs is interested in it and can get it empty with some speed! Another dog just treats is like a ball and asks me to throw it! I'm not sure these toys are worth the expense, once the dog has worked out how to get the treat, it doesn't take them much time at all.

Sorry Luke to go OT! Elfin, how did you get into doing that? Did you study with the BVA/KC eye specialist vets over here?
-
I'm glad to hear he's on the mend now and hopefully that is the last of his teething dramas!
-
Elfin, are you an eye specialist?

i would suggest a rolled leather collar for a long coated dog - just make sure it is finished well with no rough sections. Martingale would be good for on lead walking but i wouldn't leave it on a coated dog when off lead

I have also seen them for sale in the supermarket first aid aisle. I would also add a thermometer, vaseline

The dog is only 4 and a half months old wouldn't you at least give them another few months to fall out instead of putting a small pup under GA? Brachy breeds teeth are all over the place usaully anyway and I would say most will have to have at least one dental in their lives. No because the longer you leave them, the more likely you would need more drastic measures to fix the teeth alignment afterwards. This isn't just about having straight teeth, sometimes the adult teeth can grow out at an angle in into the dogs lip or roof of the mouth - that will require more fixing then just a very quick anaesthetic/sedation to remove a tooth. I know a pet puppy at the moment who has a brace fitted to correct his teeth after having a puppy tooth removed to late. This has been done under a specialist in dental care for dogs and has been very pricey.

I'm sorry to hear the outcome of this. Will they operate on the puppy to try to fix the shunt?
-
I wouldn't leave them as they can upset the alignement of the teeth.

I've used the frontline spray on puppies with no problems. Don't forget to treat your house as well!!!

I think I would have phoned my own vet as soon as she told me the story (if she refused to call her own at that time) to ask about the affects of a dog that size taking that drug.
-
Just got to ask if you had anyone in mind? :D I would follow Ellz advice and see an eye specialist instead of your ordinary vet.
-
If the adult teeth are more then half way through and the puppy teeth are not even wobbling, then I would be getting the vet to have a look at them in the next week or 2. But keep checking and having a wiggle of them.

Handstripping is easy, it just takes a little bit of time to get a neat job. If you get a dog with a hard coat, they will be easy for you to get the hang of. You could even learn to do the grooming yourself and the breed thread on here is always available to offer grooming advice.

What is the difference between a stumpy tail cattle dog and an ACD? Presume there is more then tail length?

If youhave one, pput it into your puppy photo album.
