For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
VizslaMomma replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I thought I would post a copy of the email from Vibrac that I got in June 2014..... It seems to me there is a change in what was being told to consumers since the thread was started. Thank you for your query regarding the use of suprelorin implant for your dog. Just to reinforce what we discussed: The purpose of the implant is to reduce testosterone to a level to cause infertility - ie no sperm production. It is recommended to restrict contact with females for 4-6 weeks after implantation as there may still be viable sperm stored in the reproductive tract. Unfortunately the implant may not prevent mating and a tie so you may still want to consider complete separation from bitches in season, however if mating should occur it should be non-fertile (after the initial 6 week period). It can take 8-10 months for fertility to return post implantation of the 6 month implant It can take 2-21/2 years for fertility to return post implantation of a 12 month implant - we would therefore generally recommend using a 6m implant in dogs intended for future breeding. All dogs are variable - some may return to fertility sooner and others later I have attached a general brochure for you and your veterinarian should be able to provide you with further information Please don't hesitate to contact me or your veterinarian if you have any further questions, It's a worry about the change of info over the years since this thread started. Or am I being unrealistic? -

Gotta get your moneys worth from a bitch, darn that CC and their limitations. Nothing to do with money if we are talking about the science - its about what's best for the bitch. Dare I ask what you do?

This would be your choice, Dave. But very often the Universe makes a different choice..... Without being mushy, I read such a thread last night.. Such a love story... you just never know. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/251187-i-year-ago-i-got-the-phone-call/page__p__6274504__hl__wolff__fromsearch__1#entry6274504 -

Heads Up More Breed Specific Legislation On The Table

I was thinking more of the general public who might totally misunderstand the reasons you explained. They could form a poor misconception. -

What????? Load of tosh. Think there is becoming a greater need for people to stand to fight this idiocy Mesocephalic I think, not brachycephalic. The term "cephalic" is actually an index used to measure head/skull measurement (width by length). Brachy is short, meso is medium. A Cav would be mesocephalic I believe although I am far from expert on how the measurements are determined. Of course, cavs are savage beasts..... death by licking is so painful from a cav -

It is such a worry. But on the plus side, you know it's been the best choice for both dogs. I am thrilled to get this update. Paws crossed for another successful visit. Ongoing best wishes for all of you. VM -
LOL. Younger cousin by marriage described his then new Rotti like that. Biggest set ever on any dog. Big, bold, brave , yadda ,yadda ,yadda. I had occasion to house-sit for them in Lithgow in the middle of winter. This you beauty Rotti was too scared to go outside in the rain during the night. I had to take an umbrella and keep him covered including his peanut sized balls when he needed to toilet.

Thing is you are trying to accomdate your boy with the weather changes. That's far better than just ignoring the fact he might be cold..... We spent a couple of years in the Mid-West of the USA. Winter was snow. We had one Vizsla which liked a bed of straw at nights. He had been born in Hungry during winter & that was what he was used to having. Good Luck with your efforts. :D :D
