  1. LOL! Edit to add that I DO NOT condone sticks for dogs!
  2. Waiting for the sun to shine through the widow :)
  3. Thanks Scottsmum - that was an interesting article :) And yes Diva, that first paw in particular needed clipping!
  4. I wipe the eyes with a warm used chamomile tea bag :)
  5. Our two toy poodles used to sleep in the bed with us, but I found it became difficult when we stayed with other people who weren't so keen on dogs in their spare beds Also, if we had house sitters, I didn't want them to be uncomfortable about the dogs sleeping with them. So we persevered to train them (the dogs not the house sitters) to sleep in their own beds firstly in our bedroom and then in the lounge room. So now they sleep quite happily in their own beds until early morning when they come in for a cuddle
  6. Hippity Happy Birthday Nelsson! What a great achievement for you and your human

  10. We used to be able to relax about the ticks in winter ... Not any more
  11. I used Advantix once and one dog had a bad reaction to it so I don't use it anymore
  12. I've found many ticks on our dogs over the last few weeks, several of them small paralysis ticks as well I use Frontline plus and check my dogs daily - usually twice daily. I've now put a tick collar on my Schnauzer as I found a paralysis tick near his eye today Just a heads up for those in tick prone areas to be alert.
  13. You could use a glass or aluminium bottle instead. The dispensers are the same as are used in rat and mouse cages :)
  14. Replace the bowl with a bottle type water dispenser which has a ball bearing. Like this ... https://www.worldforpets.com.au/products/151131587
  15. I've had seven cattle dogs - five blueys and two reds. Without sounding too biased the blueys were better :) They are fiercely loyal to their family. I had one entire male who wouldn't even leave my sight to visit a local bitch on heat Mine were fabulous with my children growing up, however, I always locked them away when friends were visiting ... You just never know. As Cosmolo said, they are quick to react! I love the breed, however, when I was considering another dog recently, I decided against a cattle dog as I realise at my stage of life it would be a disaster. They need a LOT of exercise or a job to do, which I'm not able to supply now. A fantastic breed of dog in the right circumstances. We used one of ours with sheep also. If you pointed to a particular sheep in the mob he would grab it by the leg and upend it until you got there :) Didn't hurt the sheep or draw blood, just held it for you. Had to teach them as young pups NOT to swing on the horses tails when behind out riding! Not a dog for suburban living ...
  16. With the fish oil caps you need to ensure you also give the dog added vitamin E. This is found in wheatgerm oil. See this previous thread ... http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/210570-i-almost-killed-my-dog-by-giving-him-fish-oil-tablets/
  17. Good advice from cavNrott :) Constant biting of the leg is something which should be investigated. Is it the same leg the pup bites at? Also, crushed egg shells are a good source of calcium :) I wash them out and dry them, then crush them in a coffee grinder (or you can use a mortar and pestle).
  18. Thanks persephone :) Looks like an interesting read
  19. Well done corvus! Shame it was so shortened :)
  20. I agree persephone, much ado about nothing :)
  21. Tonight on Catalyst they test Dog Optimism: How does your dog view the world? Is it an optimist or pessimist?
  22. Okay, I finally made one for my Schnauzer :) Another old polar fleece blanket. He lay down on it as soon as it hit the floor
