Have you actually seen how little it takes to get a gun license? One open book test basically telling you not to point the tubular open end at your own face. I was more meaning the registration of the collar itself. Like firearms. You may correct me on that one if I'm interpreting the system wrongly. :) Clearly e-collars are not for a beginner IMHO. So if owners want to use one they need more guidance than what's on the back of the box.

It wouldn't be that hard to be licensed to use one, like they do with guns. Perhaps just to professionals in the training field, avoiding the misuse issue but not banning them outright. Useful tool in the right circumstances in the right hands but I personally don't like the idea of them being freely used without a full understanding of their effects on dog behaviour.

I'll never fly my dogs on any airline until companies stop moving unvaccinated and/or un-quarantined pound animals.

Weasling around laws to the detriment of your reputation and the breed you love. And abusing people who gave her advice on DOL isn't lovely. It wouldn't inspire me to approach her at all.

What does the collar look like that says they've passed assessment? I've seen 6 greys in the space of 2 days, no muzzle and no special looking collars or tags. Do you have to provide an adopter with a muzzle? Ages ago one guy insisted you didn't need them in my council anymore. Haven't checked with the ranger yet but they are getting more popular with the apartment people and I'm starting to wonder where they are all coming from when not a single one is muzzled.

Probably just thought it was a chew toy. :) A dog just having a little test (of the testes) and not being caught could easily settle in for a nom. The things I've lost to fosters who have never been taught! No body parts thank goodness, but sometimes if you don't catch them or imagine they wouldn't possibly be interested in chewing a random item then you lose. :laugh:

Might not be a popular opinion but sometimes even with the best of planning and taking your time to find the right dog, you can still have just plain old bad luck. I honestly wouldn't waste my time trying to argue the point on a condition that couldn't be predicted without a crystal ball.

Eww I tried the lamb too. :laugh: Kangaroo tendon takes a while to chew. It takes a while to get soft and then it's almost like dental floss when they hold it in their paws and drag it through their teeth. :) (eta And it doesn't stink too badly)

I'd say the label is for peoples. AFAIK they're fine raw in small amounts, just gross when your dogs leave the heads around. :laugh: They're too big and spiky for my lot so bits were everywhere, we now get food grade whitebait instead when it's around. Small amounts because sardines are quite oily and salty, some dogs get the runs.

How terrible. And now she's going to need rabies shots as well on top of physical and psychological damage. Then there's the heart attack. And the American medical bills for a housekeeper who probably had no insurance don't bear thinking about. That poor poor woman.

On the likely theory that she's sensitive and settling in: If they actually want to eat but are really nervy....that's not too bad you just have to try weaning them off you and their need for your hovering. If you baby talk and cajole (and beg :laugh: ) like fretting new owners do, they aren't going to move forward. I have a tall stool in the kitchen (so they can't jump on my lap) and can be in the room but very casual, reading a book or minding my own business, radio on. I can see them trying to catch my eye LOL. So if you can get a decent nibble of dinner that way it's usually a good start. Pick the bowl up, give them a treat, pressure is off. Takes time though. And you can always bury a delicious bit of junk food under the real food for inspiration. (I mean a blob of cheap smelly kitten canned etc). Some animals have only ever eaten things like Pal (for example) so new trying a variety of foods is a challenge at first so seeing as how she's been successfully eating in foster care, try to mimic the diet exactly. A meaty bone to work on can relieve stress too. :)

How far is that from Wodonga? I'd notify the pound on that side of the border too especially if she's a professional runner.

Tibetan Spaniel :) And yes Cav's are gorgeous there's just a few things (above) you have to ask the breeder. Mum went with tibetans after losing her cavs to heart failure.

As above. :) It's ideal in many cases unless the pound aren't desexing or it's the type of dog/breed that should go through assessment via a rescue to get just the right home.

They did send a lengthy email to lots of rescuers asking for backup on the Moorook issue. I guess they were involved in advocacy for that shelter.

Some individuals tether their entire identity and self worth to the attention rescue on social media can generate. It's very sad when the person comes first and the animals are a means to an end. Not a comment on Rosie. I sincerely hope she and her rescuer are under the best care and guidance for such a unique animal.

If that's a bald pink chihuahua that looks like one of those hairless mice, she was taken from hoarders who had them stashed everywhere (incl in the roof) all the dogs were generations of indiscriminate inbreeding. Many were PTS for incredible deformities. She was one they showed seeing the vet multiple times and apparently being given the green light. So she is/was far from being untreated for whatever is wrong with her. But honestly, seeing people trot these animals out on FB to get their fix of adulation makes me feel physically ill. "ooh you are truly an angel" "nobody would do what you have done" "bless your heart" yadda yadda Gimmie a break. Even worse when they peddle the terrified partially immobile things out in public for people to paw.

Depends on the pound, in Sydney we've got a few who take impound pics the way they come in then volunteers or staff groom them to make them more comfortable. Unfortunately some matted dogs are in pain and will snap so I recommend anyone use caution when trying to handle a scared matted dog. Pls also alert the rangers that there is a wandering dog, it's at risk of being seriously hurt even if it does actually live in one of the nearby houses.

It's very very hard to have a standard protocol when you have to get several transport legs happening. Crates, are great but don't always follow the dogs for the whole trip. A pinned post for transport volunteers detailing disinfection and handling would be helpful. Years ago pups were sent all over the place, flying. But as the parvo cases popped up, the offers of help disappeared. Really the only way is temp care quarantine before moving anyone. And that just hasn't ever been possible in all situations. I have refused interstate poundies much to the confusion of people asking me to help. And I had to bite my tongue and not take a gorgeous silky x pup from a rural (I personally consider high risk esp with pups) because the only way to get her was straight onto a plane. So she got rescue anyway, went into the baggage hold with other people's pets, flew to QLD and went straight to the vet with parvo the next day. There has to be some common sense exercised to avoid some of these situations.
