  1. Alo, accepting donations via paypal when you aren't a registered not for profit can get your paypal account suspended, so you might want to take that down (and investigate the t&c's!) Oops yes and they lock it so you can't move the money out. See Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing to get your basic authority going. It's sad you are wasting your chance here. That whole useless post about defamation could have been about you instead, and a simple request not to mention you and P**** R***** in the same post which would be easy to do. & Whoever your friend is, isn't helping.
  2. No offence CBE but this is the rescue section. And you're rescuing dogs now so it pays to be patient with questions because you're going to get them anyway. You don't have to listen to me of course, it's just a good chance to introduce yourself. :) Don't waste it.
  3. There's so much you need to know about the way things work but I'm sure others will fill you in. Particularly the "kill dogs for money", not sure who told you that one. My question to you is why aren't you equally appalled that PR have walked away, staff are getting abused and 5 lives and the future of more are being used as emotional blackmail?
  4. I thought this was all about floods etc. How sad. A council listens to 3 complaints and shuts a pound down? Doesn't happen here that's for sure. Either there's more to the story or they've been handed a useful opportunity to end the contract because they want to.
  5. Yep, second opinion before you waste a lot of time and money. I've never had a dog who was cured of bacterial/fungal by malaseb or pyohex alone, once there is that nasty smell. Mildly affected cases w/ short or shaved hair yes. x2 on the pro dryer to get completely dry. I'm also surprised that your vet didn't suggest moisture trapped close to the skin by double coat that's known to be an insulator. Or investigate prescription treatment. Ears are another place for nasties so do ask for a check in there too.
  6. Don't forget the fake FB 'Pound List' profile she made up to belittle rescuers on our behalf. Not bad for someone who randomly accuses people of being Trolls and Haters.
  7. That's where rolly eye man would have been handy. God there's some odd comments. Lots of !!!!!! and ????? and CAPSLOCK. I can absolutely see where people are coming from if they don't have the experience or the right information but going off like pork chops doesn't help. Especially if threats are being made.
  8. Did the vet do a skin scrape or take any kind of samples? Bacteria respond to antibiotics and if there's a certain strain present they can hit it with specific instead of broad spectrum. Then there's fungal, which stinks also and steamy thick warm dog hair is a great place for it to live especially after a foul dip in the lagoon. Maybe try another vet. ETA- you're also washing her too much if there's a skin condition.
  9. I read Katdogs' as meaning high drive, above regular pet needs and probably bouncing off the walls after 2 weeks impound. Not DA/HA dogs. I'm not familiar with every method of temp testing but I assume if a dog was trying to munch the tester they wouldn't bother proceeding to find out if it's a potential recruit for anything. But yeah, the comment below the article itself was odd. About pit bulls and rehab programs and american TV programs. Hard to make any sense out of some of them.
  10. Beautifully said. BTW I read a letter in a magazine from a woman who said she nearly got a thrill one evening. She was getting dinner at the stove when her husband came in from work behind her. He said, 'Did you have a good day, my darling?' She started to answer but he interrupted, 'I was talking to the cat.' Sounds like my house.
  11. I assure you we didn't ever post dramatics  It was just time consuming and stressful. We were constantly badgered and and more than once, abused and threatened for not taking a poor old dog. It's awful enough to have to say no (extremely politely btw) without the abuse. It's easy for people to be nastier online. Maybe I'm too soft but I find that upsetting and unnecessary. So we do what works for us.
  12. Which is why temp testing these dogs that everyone has backed away from is a step in the right direction. And the way PR work, the dogs are released to anyone it's just not an adoption at the pound. So even if the pound say 'release to rescue only' on the basis of health or questionable temperament they rely completely on trusting a rescue to do the right thing. These changes wouldn't have been brought in if everything was roses. There was a post in the BP thread that described the nature of 2 of these dogs. ETA: NOT saying PR are the only ones guilty of handling questionable dogs.
  13. I prefer the company of beautiful souls, no matter what parcel they are wrapped in. :) And you can't put humans and dogs in the same basket so it's never a question of choice. BTW And am I the only one who gets the feeling the dogs get more I love you's from a certain man of the house than I do?
  14. Ta Nic, from the FB letter you posted I kind of got the idea that dogs being tested were the ones with no rescue/EOI. It would be impossible to test everyone. I do hope there is flexibility. You're spot on about Shar Pei, that kind of breed specific trait is what I'm concerned about. And your spelling is fine
  15. I'm choking on the irony of that quote. Now a pound is doing 'something', PR will do 'nothing'. What a massive tanty. I've no sympathy for a group who has bullied and badgered so many. I'll leave out the vicious personal attacks levelled at us as individuals. But most people aren't aware that Melanie Norman registered and Incorporated the name of Pound List (and all possible versions of the domain name) so it couldn't be used here on DOL as it had been for years on behalf of the dogs impounded - with no personal gain and largely anonymously. Why? All because we gave her a hard time about altering temp notes and using vols photos to scab money with while other groups took the dogs in. PR now disagrees with a pound trying to get a little control back on what happens to their dogs? Funny about that. Or are they disagreeing with not being able to leave dogs sitting there for weeks and weeks while a big plea is run on FB? This has been coming for a long time and we're fortunate there hasn't been a harsher measure taken that makes rescuing almost impossible. 5 unrehomeable dogs PTS in such a high intake pound is still "No Kill" in the true meaning. How dare they use those 5 lives as a power play.
  16. I agree with assessing but some breeds present very poorly in a pound environment. Is there discretion on a per dog basis or a straight out red mark against the dog? What are they testing for exactly?
  17. Bingo. We packed our bags and left which has been fantastic for us and our supporters. It's an unhealthy impersonal environment and a distraction that takes more from you and the dogs than it gives back. ETA pet peeve: rescuers sticking their head into their rescue page photos wtf is that, get out of the way we'd rather see the dog LOL
  18. Cute - we can do that but I think we can do better than that as well so its not just a band aid. But I need more info. hehe I just mean so the first few on board are pre-armed with something. ;-) Keeps morale up when you have a couple of successes at the start.
  19. Steve maybe you could chuck in a few foster carer courses too? :)
  20. This is just my personal thinking, because I wouldn't have the foggiest about what's involved with such a large number of animals but they'll get the best applicant to assist with foster carers if people know upfront how much work is required, and have agreed policies to run with. They may get very well meaning people offer but it's going to take more than good intentions to run a program like that. A couple of groups have quite widespread foster networks maybe they could help with setting out e.g. number of hours, number of manageable carers per co-ord, policy re vetwork and extending the vet clinics available further away from the shelter (so that carers aren't taking dogs in as private clients at non rescue rates), adoption protocol away from the shelter...that kind of thing. So Moorook can call for a volunteer foster Co-ord in a business style advert and choose the most appropriate. Anyone have that stuff handy? :)
  21. Victoria from memory but that was aaaaages ago so who knows if they are still around. For some bizarre reason one showed up in Canterbury Pound a few yrs back. Black broken coat, docked too I think but long like a GSP, not short like a silky . Even chipped dogs can be wrongly identified but I've never seen another like it except on Patterdale/Fell breeders sites.
  22. That sounds like a terrier with a strong ratting instinct. They just can't hear you, nothing exists except that rat. Any other boring day they'll happily stick like glue and come when called. I didn't realise greys could fatally injure themselves.
  23. Is this every state, and does it apply to non-race bred greys? I thought that was the case, but there is a grey in my local dog park that is always off-lead, muzzle-free with no special identification so I wondered if maybe it wasn't. I'm inner west too and noticed the same thing. Everyone I've asked is under the impression that 'greyhounds don't have to wear muzzles anymore'. But they aren't wearing GAP collars.
  24. It's not the fact that it's a different point of view. Maybe you missed the bit where he called pro rescue/pound desexing people misguided amateurs. Pose a theory in a reasonable manner and you might get a sensible answer.
