  1. Absolutely agree with all of this. Write it down RL and take in exactly what you want done. My vet doesn't charge extra for fluids, it is standard practice, but I know that other vets do. And the same with StaffnToller, my vet does PAP's (pre anesthetic profiles for any dog over 8) - perhaps yours does too. It's difficult to gauge whether it is worth it or not when none of us know the reason behind it. Are you docking her tail?
  2. If it's smelly pus I would take her to the vet now. If it is a yellowy discharge which stays around on her vulva then it sounds like vaginitis which as Persephone said will clear with her first season, but will (should) also clear once she's spayed - whichever is first.
  3. :cheer: My daughter has just come running in to the room to see what I'm laughing so hard at. Great photos. And please put me down for one of those books!!
  4. I disagree. Inflated vet prices are often due to greed and over-servicing. Lower vet fees do not always mean lower care. Usually smaller owner-run business are cheaper... as opposed to chain-run or larger hospitals whose owners are not the vets working there, but business people looking for profit. A vet is not somewhere that the saying "you get what you pay for" usually applies. High cost does not always equal high care. So smaller owner run businesses aren't working towards a profit? What a weird train of thought you have. There are all sorts of cost involved with desexing from cheap to top of the line sutures and so on. If you have reservations about the cost but like and trust the vet just ask them if their fee reflects the quality of their drugs, materials, staff and service. More often than not you will find cheap prices equals cheap quality.
  5. I had thought it was for males only, and it doesn't say much about females on their site. Do they still have seasons? Yep, no heats for bitches. I know someone who has the male Superlorin version in their bitch. Sorry, I'm confused. You've said you chose it, do you mean you have done something else for Saki?

  7. Sas. I think pic three is a nicer package than the droopy boys. Are the tighter nuts held against him when showing? Are they any health effects using this long term, or is it recommended to only be used with breaks in between? eta: Have just read the link saying it can be used long term, thanks for the link.

*points and laughs* you got a Pug! I suggest popping over in to the breed sub forums and finding the Pug thread. You will get heaps of advice there. I would also seek out a REPUTABLE puppy pre school and sign up. Good luck
  9. Is it true that in the make up of the Miniature that there is terrier and thus the Minis are more highly strung and also tend to bark more? One of my clients did her Schnauzer research and was told this by a breeder. I've often wondered how much truth there is to it.
  10. Holy crap... just for a bath? That's actually very cheap. I charge base rate $55, it usually ends up costing more though due to coat condition. Get in touch with your inner woman! If you saw how much hair flew out you might change your mind. The wall is covered in black coat after I force dry my Rott. The breed never ceases to amaze me with how much they can shed.
  11. Rotty Lover, seeing as you are an accomplished handyman I would simply set up hot/cold taps outside and put your money towards a force dryer. The dryer gets out all the loose coat and also, obviously dries the dog! You could always buy some sort of dog basin to sit the dogs in, but personally I would just set up taps. If I ever sold my business, I would give my hydrobath the flick, keep my dryer and call the plumber in to install taps.
  12. Gladesville Vet. They have a website, are open on Sundays. You will find a lot of vets open tomorrow, but I highly recommend Gladesville Vet for anything serious.
  13. Ouch, that looks very itchy That is what Advance does to George.
  14. Poor Piper : ( I feed EP light every summer. It keeps George lovely and lean (around 38kgs) and I've not ever had a problem. He then goes on regular EP in the cooler months and I let him get to about 42 ish give or take.
  15. *phew* about the ears. I wrote on her card the other day DO NOT TOUCH EARS lol. FWIW I dont use Coat King as I don't like the way it cuts the coat. A month later I can feel spiky regrowth so I stopped using it.
  16. Oops! To the OP, bad choice of dog to get if you wanted low shedding. Cav's are notorious for it. As a groomer, I know I can spend ages on a dog and when the client comes and they pat the dog even more hair comes off. My brother has a Border which they get groomed elsewhere every fortnight and the hair that comes off him is astounding.
  17. AFAIK the maintenance dose is once a day, however the initial dose is twice. I guess perhaps to build the dog up to it, although I can't imagine it would make a dog feel sick
  18. Gertie my little Shihtzu just had both cruciate repairs done at the same time. At this stage the vet is happy with how she is going.
  19. I'm confused. Listerine is an antiseptic mouthwash. Have you got the name confused with something else Oakway, or did you not realise it was actually a mouthwash? I would have thought it might sting on a hot spot. I know the stuff makes my whole head want to explode if I hold it in my mouth for too long
  20. One of my dogs was from a well known registered breeder. She had long term hook worm infestation and had obvious daily anal prolapses where blood also trickled from her anus. It took some time to bring it under control, and by this stage I was well aware that I now had hookworm on site Breeder didn't give a sh*t. Hope this GSD gets vet attention asap. I wouldn't even be contemplating heartworm prevention at this stage.
  21. I'm not lazy and I can read yet I have accidently applied Advantix to my cat. It was a large dose too He spent almost a week at the Emergency Clinic but is now 'fine'. He is a lot slower than he was and seems more spacey so I've no doubt he suffered some brain damage. Poor cat was seizing for some time before I came home and found him. All the hair down the side of his neck and shoulder had literally worn off from the thrashing of the seizing on the ground. I have 5 pets, some times there are extra fosters. I apply top spots every fortnight. I accidently put the Advantix tube which was left, back in the Advantage box the time I used them last. So when it came to applying them a fortnight later, I was rushing out the door late for something and checked the box, double checked the box again then applied the tube. I should have checked the tube but I didn't. My fault obviously, but I object to being called 'lazy'. I've previously vet nursed so was well aware of the outcome but it still happened. I can remember yelling at the poor nurse in Emergency that of course I wouldn't have applied Advantix as I know better. She was trying to eliminate all possibilities. The next day she made me feel a little better though that one of the vets had actually done the same thing! The packaging is the same and the names are very similar. I'm actually surprised that they don't package them differently. Now when I top spot the cats, I check, double check - do it, then feel sick and go back through the bin to triple check the empty tube.
