Anyone Boarded At Doggy Farm Stay Middle Dural?

bloody hell that is terrible I am so sorry for your loss of Jack, I ahven't even read the website yet.

I am not in Brisbane but will not and do not run dogs together from sifferent families and double cjheck dogs from the same family are fine to be kenneled and run together - I had two that would kill each otehr if they were put in together. All of my runs inside and out are fully covered over the top to make sure no dog can climb into the kennel next door and also there are solid partitions between the inside part of the dog run so when dogs are placed next to each other I make sure they are suited as they can see each other through the outside part. I designed them this way to address any heat issues in summer. I was worried about hot air being trapped in summer.

It horrifies me that kennels run any dogs together that are not from the same household it is a disaster waiting to happen

Dear all - thanks for your kind thoughts. Yes I made the stupid mistake of my life and will carry the overwhelming guilt forever. Two toddlers, a ridiculously busy job and not enough time to think straight. a crushing reality to live with, especially with a three year old who constantly asks when jack is coming home. And my other three dogs who were seriously depressed for some months after.

FYI, I have learned

- dog kennels are effectively unregulated - 'self regulated' via the Companion Animals Act in NSW

- locals councils have NO interest in the running of kennels other than land use zoning/permission

So no one has responsibility.

Outrageous, huh! No wonder puppy farms can flourish in this country where animal welfare laws don't exist.

FYI I lodged a complaint with Hills Shire. They

1. Never formally interviewed me despite contacting them many many times

2. Said they didn't need to speak to me because 'I was overseas and by definition was not a witness to the event'

3. Concluded that there was nothing to be done because 'no one witnessed the event'

4. Sent the owner of the business an application so they could apply for approval to operate kennels!!!!!!

So two dangerous staffies are out there running around and their poor owners probably don't know that their own beloved dogs need to be carefully managed. I feel sorry for them. As I said to council, if these dogs did this to my harmless and unprovocative little jack, they could do it to a child.

I believe what goes around comes around. This person has it coming big time.

Take life slowly, friends.

Don't blame yourself, you left your dog there in good faith, as many people do with boarding facilities all over th eplace. You expect to get all your dogs back but if something goes wrong you expect to be informed as soon as they possibly can and you expect to the dog to recieve appropriate treatment as soon as is possible.

I know you will blame yourself it is human nature, but the blame falls squarely on the boarding kennels shoulders not yours. It is also terrible they have not been held accountable.

RIP Little man

  • 1 year later...

Hey JoannP,

I am sorry to hear about your little one, but i have been using doggy FarmStay for 7 years regularly. I have referred dozens of other friends and people from my Dog Park to their service I am have nothing but Wonderful things to day about the service. I have a large dog and she is always really fit and happy when she returns.

It's awful what happened you but I think your going a bit over the top on your reaction. We all know that being at a dog park that the dogs can get into bingles with each other.

The option Doggy Farm stay are to kennel my girl while I am away and that would break my heart that she would only get 20-45 mins to play and run. We as responsible owners have choices and if you want to have your pooch to be in kennels I suggest that you should have done your due diligence.

I am a huge fan of the Service, again it's not for everyone's dog but I and many others I know love the service and I think is an isolated inceident.

Again sorry for your loss.

Ziggy

Bloody hell, that's pretty insensitive considering that the person's dog died. I would totally lose my sh*t if that happened to me.

A dog was left alone with two dog aggressive staffies that mauled it to death and then the family were not contacted for 6 days after the dog died, not only allowing them to grieve properly but keeping the remaining 3 dogs at risk. Pretty sire Dingbat reacted appropriately on all counts. I'm warning all my friends about this kennel.

Firstly big hugs to Dingbat and what an awful thing to happen to you and poor Jack.

The alarm bells are ringing in my ears after reading the doggy farm stay website.

Does anyone else find it contradictory that this website states

"Each night the dogs stay indoors, in the comfort & safety of Melody's house".

Then one reads a bit further along "Precious Pups is a specialised service that will allow you to be sure that your dog is kept safe and sound indoors while you're travelling. The Precious Pups has very limited spaces, as the dog remains in the house with the Family so if you need this service please book well in advance"

Ok I thought all the dogs were in the home - maybe I read it wrong.

BYO bed is odd - as a "boarding facility" do they not have beds. Perhaps bring a blanket or similar would be better.

Where do the dogs really sleep - all together dormitory style perhaps? Maybe a verandah? We will never really know.

Throw a few raw bones around to unkennelled dogs and this scenerio is not a nice place for any dogs to be!

As for their agreement where it states no responsibility for "escape or exercise or from grass allergies, burns, knotting, hot spots or grass seeds which might become embedded in paws" - do they not physically check their boarders as least daily? Individual checking of the dogs helps the boarding dog to bond with the kennel staff.

Tick collars can not always be relied on.

I run boarding kennels (as well as a rescue in a separate kennel block) and never are dogs allowed to play or run together - recipe for grief and a lack of duty of care.

When a new boarder comes in it is not just a matter of just putting a boarding dog in a kennel - other considerations such as being next to a reactive dog etc and some 'kennel shuffling' may need to be done.

I have taken the odd dog home with me as they will not settle in a kennel, are aged etc

My own dogs are always crated at night and so is the visiting dog.

Maybe I am too over the top in my belief I am being paid to care for someone else's precious bundle of fur.

I have been trusted by the owner to do my very best.

xx LP xx

Uh ya, i work in a social kennel(the dogs get group playtime, small carefully selected groups made by dog savvy people) and on no planet would that be acceptable! Dogs gets into squables sometimes yes and we have a waver because dogs can get hurt, as in maybe a nick to an ear, not DEATH! We did once have a dog mauled...by a dog that leapt our 6 foot fence with a 2 foot barbed wire top INTO our yard and started mauling one of our dogs, the dog was grabbed fast as possible, tossed into a kennel while the victim dog was grabbed and rushed to the vet while on the phone with the dogs owner, we paid the full bill and did all the dogs aftercare as he recovered. That was years ago and the dog still comes. The offending dogs owner was tracked down and im not sure whatever happened to it, but i never saw it again. There is NO excuse for letting a dog get mauled to death period, sure as heck as no excuse for letting that happen then leaving the mauled dog alone AND not contacting the owner for 6 days. Thats rediculous and unacceptable!

Have school holidays started early this year?

Or does Zigster have some sort of affiliation with the "boarding kennel" in question?

Seems strange that Zigster is a new member, and immediately resurrects a thread that's been dead for 3 months...

The way I see it, all a comment from someone attempting to defend this so called boarding kennel has done is bring this topic to the top of the page again so people can steer clear of this place. Keeps their name fresh in peoples minds and reminds everyone not to go there. Ziggsters efforts have backfired imo.
