The thought of sharing utensils with my own dog makes me feel sick, but I know where her mouth has been and its not pleasant! She eats rotting carcasses of dead aniamls, dog poo, horse poo, sheep poo basically any poo

This is fairly commonplace in eurpoe though, I remeber we went out for dinne ronce in Paris and a lady has her SWF sitting on her lap and let it lick the bowl. We were pretty horrified but no one else in the restuarant seemed to care.

Coffee is bad for dogs, but one lick of a teaspoon isn't likely to do much harm. My dad always lets Mindy lick the froth out of the lid of his take-away coffee.

Saves on water :) post-13565-0-57955300-1345692734_thumb.jpg

How did the dog get in there?! Before the plates in anticipation?! Lol

I wouldn't let mine lick the plates, for one as it has been mentioned I know what else they lick/ put in their mouths! Also they know the bowls their food goes in, I don't want them thinking our food is up for grabs. We have got them to the point where we can leave a plate of food in their reach and they won't touch it, even if we leave the room. If they were allowed leftovers off plates I don't think that would be the case anymore!

I am sure the dogs mouth is cleaner than many humans :D

I would hope they wash all there cups & utensils after being used by SOME humans .

AS for sharing ,who gives a toss.

I share my empty plate with the dogs ,they love licking the last bits & bobs & i haven't dropped dead from dog germs but there again mine sleep on the bed,sit on the chair & enjoy all sorts of aspects being a family pet .

And the biggie ,My dogs give great kisses :bolt:

As for what dogs lick i am sure many of us have seen people pick there noise, come out the toilet without washing hands, handle foods without washing there hands dear lord i have seen more gross things by humans than i care to dream & use in eateries & then head off to the all you can eat buffet .

How many people wash there dogs bowls in the dishwasher

Its okay my dogs are trained in personal hygiene

I could leave food in reach of Kenny, but he wouldn't touch it unless I said OK. When I put a plate on the floor, he would sit & wait until I gave him the command OK.

Yep, I have shared an ice cream with mine

My friend used to share her water with her dog, when they were out at cafes he would just drink from the same glass as her.

I woke up one night to hear Maddie lapping away at my large glass of water on my bedside table. I could just imagine her thinking...hhmmm gee it's cold ..I'm thirsty but I don't want to get out of bed...ooo looky here water, sweeeet! Nope I don't let my dogs eat off my plates or cutlery but each to their own. I find it more disturbing that people sit in cafes on the side of the road sucking in car fumes and paying top dollar for a coffee. I was following a delivery truck today in my beachside suburb when a massive cloud of black deisel fumes spewed out all over people having coffee and they were all madly waving their hands...coffee in hand.

I am a germaphobe so there is no sharing of plates or utensils here but from the OP all I got out of it was a lady sharing a drink with an onleash seemingly well behaved dog - how is this giving dog haters ammo?

My dog and I share germs. I think it helps for a stronger immune system. Not that there are many dog germs that can infect humans and vice versa. Same applies to their poo. Not that I'd want to eat it on purpose.

So I don't let her "kiss me". But we do share toast and she does sometimes pre-rinse some of the plates - that then get washed in near-boiling water (direct from kettle) and air dried.

My dog seeks out and eats my cat's poo, she also licks her bum. Aint no way I'm using cutlery right after she has licked it!!

To be honest, I'm grossed out at the idea of anyone doing it. AND dogs licking people's mouths. :vomit:

Yesterday, whilst driving back from the park with my boys, I stopped at the traffic lights next to a cafe and noticed a couple of women having coffee with their dogs at their feet. Nothing unusual in that. One lady had an absolutely gorgeous French Bulldog who was just happily sitting by her feet. She then picked him/her up and started feeding him her coffee off a spoon, one for her and one for the dog. As much as I love my boys, for me that is a no no. A dog is a dog is a dog. If she thinks it's OK, then that's her business but that spoon goes back into the cafe, hopefully well washed for another customer and really, this was not a good look for anyone who happened to notice. I feel that if her coffee has to be shared then by all means feed it at home.

I must say that I do find it a little amusing that you would be concerned with that spoon going back to the cafe and hopefully well washed for another customer; I personally would hope that that's the case for all dishes and cutlery irrespective of a dog licking a spoon. A dog may be a dog but human beings carry more transmittable diseases than any dog, has that ever dawned on you? I'm more concerned about what can be caught from other humans than from the saliva of a dog. Having said that, I don't exactly believe in french kissing my dog but have no qualms in putting my plate down for them when I have bits of chicken or meat that I especially save for them (they do have their own stainless steel bowls). Hot water and dishwashing liquid removes saliva. My dogs don't have the opportunity of rolling in or eating rotting meat but even so, boiling hot water would kill anything, lol

Apart from the unheathly caffeine aspect (which we're not 100% certain it was, anyway), it wouldn't bother me one tiny bit. I often leave a little morsel from my plate to treat our dogs (not while I'm eating, but after I'm finished) and they eat it off my spoon/fork which then goes in the dishwasher.

Had my mother been at the cafe, though, she may well have fallen down dead from the shock and horror of it all..... there's a dog EATING FROM A HUMAN'S PLATE/SPOON HOW DREADFULLY UNHEALTHY AND UNHYGENIC..... THUD!

 I often put my plate on the floor (at home) for Kenny to finish any scraps, the dishes get washed I don't see the problem, mind you, I never told my visitors, because some might freak out & not want to have a meal at my place.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

To be honest, I'm grossed out at the idea of people meeting someone at a nightclub (pubs, wherever) and only hours later exchanging germs in all matter of ways without giving it a second thought.

 You've nailed it. How many times have "Today Tonight" and "ACA" tested people's kitchen only to find it laden with E Coli? Even the children's sandwiches had high traces of E Coli which I must say, I was shocked. I bet ya if they tested my kitchen there'd be very few germs to be found even though I am the proud owner of dogs. I have seen people pick their noses and literally eat the contents, it happened the other day when I stopped at a traffic light and looked to my right and a very well dressed man, suit and all, proceeded to do just that, he must have been hungry, no time for breakfast? :mad. I am concerned about individuals with very long fingernails too, who knows what's lurking in there? lol

I wouldn't do it out in public just because out of respect to other patrons.. altho i have dipped my finger in the froth part of my capachino and let them lick it off when we have taken them to dog friendly cafes (in the outside section)

why do people get all icky about this when people have licked their spoons and touched their cups with their lips (and hands) anyway in cafes ???? whats the difference, some people's mouths and hands have been in worse places

BTW I don't give ours coffee as such, but they have had a tiny bits of the froth and slurps from my cups afterwards (at home).:)
