  1. Head restraining is irrelevant as Novice is off lead. Not sure how I would feel competing against someone in a collar like that. Not super happy to be honest. Why don't you just use a flat collar?
  2. They still teach the handler pivot at my club. I can't say I've heard much about being marked down for a U turn method. I have heard about judges marking down flip finishes though.
  3. Is your tap bit like a bathroom tap or more like a kitchen tap? If it is more like a kitchen tap see if you can unscrew the very tip of it. If you can then you can just buy a cheap bit (under $10) that you screw on that you can attach a hose to.
  4. I think you need to call the owner and tell him it isn't working out and what does he want you to do with her.
  5. I would put the crate wherever it is that you want him to end up sleeping. There might be some noise the first night if you pick the lounge room.
  6. Put Bindi in a crate with a cover over half of it. Put your Kelpie in the same room and leave them for quite a long time, a day or overnight. See if that helps Bindi come around. Borders can be sensitive little souls so give her time to settle. Keep the other pets away from her at the moment though.
  7. Is the issue moving stuff out of the house? What are you trying to move? Furniture? Cars?
  8. The praying while walking away in the DOR didn't help a whole lot, huh? Gorgeous stuff!!! I wants me a Cider!! The praying part cracked me up for ages when i watched the video last night!! Me too - couldn't help wondering whether she'd get pinged for second command, or taking a training aid into the ring But super stuff. And super well done to you and Mason too! Me too
  9. Not sure why a person can't just open the forums they are interested in. The new posts are highlighted anyway. Why bother with the new post view unless you want to see all forums.
  10. I find that quite strange. Would you not pay anyone for anything if they didn't have a qualification? I've just realised that my view on qualifications comes from my horsey background. The qualifications to be an instructor in riding aren't much chop. Really the only benefit is you get cheaper insurance. It doesn't normally impress anyone greatly. I picked riding instructors based on their methodology and how their other students rode. I was also impressed if they trained with someone really good.
  11. My suggestion would be to do a course at a local dog club first and become a volunteer instructor. This would give you an idea whether you want to be an instructor before forking out heaps of cash. I don't care at all whether the person has qualifications when I am looking at a trainer. I care about what they have done and what their pupils are doing.
  12. Mine just go splat! They don't fold back into it. It is just straight down. Pretty funny to watch. DOR/change of position is our party trick i just teach it playing in the garden.
  13. These were the ingredients. They might have changed slightly now it is made here. Salmon, brewers rice, canola meal, oat meal, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), fish meal (natural source of glucosamine), salmon meal (natural source of glucosamine), pearled barley, brewers dried yeast, animal digest, salt, potassium chloride, L-Lysine monohydrochloride, Vitamin E supplement, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), manganese sulfate, niacin, calcium carbonate, Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, copper sulfate, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, garlic oil, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, calcium iodate, biotin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), sodium selenite. There are a number of ingredients that are 'allergy prone' ingredients - Canola meal, brewers dried yeast are a couple. The 'animal fat' could be a problem if the pup is allergic to the animal that the fat is actually from. I do like this food, it gives a super coat on a dog but I wouldn't be feeding it to a dog during an elimination diet. I have feed this to pups/younger dogs btw and they have done well on it. I don't think the pup thing is an issue. My borders usually get really fat after a bag of this and that is feeding 1 cup a day.
  14. I had Brock de-sexed at about 4 months. Breeders etc have to ask if he is entire or de-sexed so I assume that it didn't effect his growth greatly.
  15. I really don't see how you can do an elimination diet with kibble. There are far too many ingredients in them, even the Hills ones. If it is Proplan that you are feeding then I have found that to be one of the most fattening dry foods. My puppy was also allergic to something in it. It caused the worse reaction out of everything.
  16. For any Victorian people I have had a bed from these people that has lasted for about 15-20 years! http://www.serendipitydogbeds.com/
  17. Sorry I missed you Gayle. I'm going to the Monday clinic. Poppy hasn't seen sheep for a couple of months so it is likely to be an exciting first run. lol.
  18. Lots of jumping to conclusions going on here. The dog may have been to the vet already for her leg. The people looking after the dog might not have told the owner she had escaped. We have even had a DOL member whose dog escaped from a kennel and they didn't tell her straight away! I wouldn't expect a guy to be hysterical about this. And really the dog is safe so in a male's mind there isn't a problem.
  19. I'm really sorry dobesrock. What a really horrible thing to have happen.
  20. I actually had a good owner experience the other day! Have just found a great offlead oval near my house. Usually there is no one there. The other day a guy rocked up with about 3 dogs, he was drinking beer and didn't appear to have any control. I thought 'oh crap'. I kept to one oval and he kept to the other oval. When I had to walk along his oval to get home he called one of the dogs over to him and held it until I was at my car. I was pretty impressed.
  21. You need immediate professional help. I would go to the vets first to check if there was a physical cause. If no one can suggest a trainer over there I would contact the police dog squad to see if they will assess him. They did this for a friend here in Victoria. Until you get help I would not be letting the dog off lead. I would not be letting the dog and kids be in the same room, even if you are there. If walking on lead you need to make sure that the dog is not going to be able to get away from you. If you can get a muzzle on his head I would be doing that. You are very lucky the guy on the motor bike didn't press charges. Good luck!
  22. I get the Bono Fido beds for outside. They are made of the same material as the synthetic horse rugs. They are pretty cheap so replacing them doesn't hurt so much. Around the $50 for a large size one. http://www.bonofido.com/s.nl/it.A/id.173/.f
