  1. I think you will only reinforce the behavior if you talk to her in coddling type manner. If you talk in a happy upbeat way then that shouldn't be an issue. Also think about what you are doing when she slips out. Are you thinking about her being worried about people? BC are so in tune with their owners. When Poppy slips out in her heeling it is usually because I have got distracted first! Leopuppy was a post on my figure 8 on Sunday and that made me anxious and Poppy's heeling reflected that.
  2. I think you misread my post Ness. It was related to your initial post and the fact Kenzie drops out of toy drive, let us say toy play. If you can harness drive, rather than just play tugging, then it might not be a problem. She might stay in regardless of what is going on around here. Have you tried using pack drive at all? Lots of verbal encouragement around the figure of 8. Both Poppy & Brock have a higher pack drive, so pats and cuddles are their most valuable thing. Kenzie has always sounded like she loves her toys.
  3. From what you have written on Drive threads before Ness I don't think that you actually work in drive. I think that the drive work as per what K9 Force & Leerburg teach help the dogs to stay in the drive state in face of other pressures. Maybe that is something to explore.
  4. I reckon prey & food are the same drives anyhow. Dogs that seem more food driven are just either lacking imagination or not as easily fooled :D I.e. staffy in prey drive - "I eatz the tug, I killz the tug" BC - "I know damn well that tug isn't food! Do you think I am silly? Provide food human!" The end result of chasing prey is food.
  5. I am usually quite casual about my pups. After the first night inside it is outside with them! This pup (also had for a week) I am quite anxious about. Dunno why, lol. I am also returning to work this week and am stressing about leaving her outside. The last couple of days I have had her outside longer and longer and have shock horror actually left the house and gone out myself Logan does need good protection from the weather. He will work out the best place to go in the various weathers. My pup is currently asleep in my tack room as the floor is nice and cool in there. She is the 3rd pup that has worked out that it is a good sleeping spot. I would be trying him outside for longer and longer before you go back to work. I reckon us human mums are going to suffer more than the pups, lol.
  6. Maybe your dogs are all a bit warm and would rather not have nice squishy beds at the moment? Mine are avoiding their beds at the moment. Puppy is sleeping in my tack room at the moment and I just went in to make her up a 'nice' bed. I felt the floor and it is really cool in there so left her as she was! Just a thought.
  7. Puppy is 9 weeks. Not the dog in my profile pic, that is my 3yo BC.
  8. Amber is working on sitting Also working on getting her used to the lead. She had the worse reaction I have ever had! Poppy is working on tidying up her work for CCD. I was pretty happy with her today after a big break and in the heat. She also didn't growl at any dogs so bonus! Brock? arrr What to do with Brock? I am actually going to try and do CCD with him too. Everything is pretty good except for heeling that has gone a bit weird due to his agility stuff. Fern is working on keeping the young dogs in order
  9. Am trying the Vets All Natural wet food now. That is disgusting mushy looking stuff but the smell isn't too bad. Puppy seemed to prefer it to the Prime roll.
  10. Could be worse guys. We have a pretty small wait for dogs. I bought my last pony on the day he was born and then had to wait 6 months until he was weaned!
  11. Petstock has 20% off the Advance at the moment.
  12. Not really I have always been a 'crazy dog lady'. It is just nice to hang out with other people that are also crazy
  13. I tried (well the dogs did!) the prime loaf today. I prefer the smell of the Eco pet rolls. Dogs happily scoffed it though.
  14. My crate that size didn't fit super easily into my X-trail boot so doubt you will get one into a Getz.
  15. Ever tried it? I have. Didn't make any difference either way. Actually, that's not quite true. It didn't make any difference with Kivi, but it trained Erik to bark when he needed to go to the toilet. It was very useful. I was working from home and he was hanging out inside in a puppy pen. I got to work in the study without worrying about puppy and he learnt to tell me when he needed to wee. He has the run of the house at night, these days, and he still wakes us up with a soft bark if he needs to pee during the night. I quite clearly said that I did it.
  16. [quote name='~Anne~' date='3rd Feb 2010 - 07:49 PM' post='4306030' It is also interesting that the cat world doesn't think of the moggy in the same way that the dog world thinks of cross bred dogs. You haven't spent much time on Cat World Mongrel cat breeding isn't received very well on there! Newbie breeders get put through the ringer too. Actually reckon the cat people are more scary than dog people! Sam&saki you get big differences in horse height and shapes too.
  17. I've got inside purebred cats but also have rescue barn cats. Have had both pure and partbred horses. The partbred horses have been a little different from a crossbred dog though as they have also been registered with big long pedigrees. I don't feel much angst about cross bred working dogs that are bred for a purpose. I don't particularly think purebred is best. It is indiscriminate breeding and puppy farms that I have issues with. I particularly get grumpy with morons that think it would be nice for their kitty or doggie to have babies and then dump said babies at the pound when they can't find homes for them.
  18. After watching Susan G DVDs I walk around saying 'good girlie'
  19. BBB I think that you need to decide the best thing for you. If crate training doesn't feel right than don't do it. To be honest (and I hope you don't mind me saying this) I think that you are going to cause more issues crate training the way you are then if you didn't crate train. If you are going to crate train then you either do it very slowly or you have to be committed to not responding to the pup howling. I actually don't crate train for the purposes of house training either but more because my dogs have to go in crates at dog school. I am pen training I guess more than crate training this time. It has been good. Would be chaos if I wasn't using the pen as I have 4 dogs and 2 cats in the house at night! Pup seems to like her pen area. I like being able to relax and watch TV without having to jump up every few seconds to see what pup is up to. You have to do what feels right for you. My pup is currently outside with the big dogs. Lots of people wouldn't do that. Pup is snuggled up with my old girl at the moment. Old girl has more patience than the other 2. Someone was horrified that I let my dogs all hang out together, in case they bond with each other and not with me. I haven't found that to be the case yet and I like them being friends. So I do what feels right for me.
  20. I think it is very unfair to rehome a dog to a normal pet home that is very reactive, ie can not go out for walks at all due to growling, barking and lunging at other dogs. It is reading people on DOL experiences with rescue dogs that has made me think this. I used to very much think that every dog deserved a chance. But now I think every family deserves a nice pet that isn't going to give them grief and need a behaviorist. My heart does bleed for these dogs though.
  21. It has been 2 dogs here for ages. Even if you are on acreage. You can get a permit for more dogs.
