  1. An hour on the beach and my border collies are pooped for the day! Good doggy exercise. The coat would be a bit annoying to clean every day though with sand and salt.
  2. A corgi? I can't remember mine being particularly destructive as a puppy.
  3. I might trundle on down for a look :)
  4. On the bright side they drop like rocks during heeling patterns!! And your distance commands and drop on recall are fav tricks!
  5. Another thing I'll say is that Poppy drops if she is anxious. If she isn't sure about the dogs next to her she prefers to be in a drop for some reason. Sitting her slightly in front of the other dogs helps this as eye contact is reduced.
  6. Thanks, they have some vego treats I am always looking for vego treats for Amber. I will be adding a couple of new vegie treats to the range this week. Keep a look out on the web page, I will also post in the commercial for sale forum here.:D Thanks
  7. Dropping in a sit stay is a very border collie thing to do :) I do a lot of varying the time before I go back and reward to keep them guessing. So 10 secs - reward, then 20 secs, then 30 secs, then 40 secs etc. If they break I start at the beginning again. Back sure the dog is sitting nice and square too before you leave. A bit of a rub on the chest and a 'sit up for Mummy' seems to help too. Also move the dog after a sit stay and don't go straight into the drop for a drop stay. I also never ask for a sit to drop as a distance command.
  8. Thanks, they have some vego treats I am always looking for vego treats for Amber.
  9. Were did you get the scaler from Erny? Mine are fine with me fiddling with their teeth so might give that a go.
  10. Also haven't had much luck with either a titre test or using the 3 year vaccination. 3 different vets have all suggested to just do the annual vaccination. They have all known what the titre test was though but seemed to think it was too expensive and too much hassle.
  11. I *think* the new Supercoat teethy chews are helping. I say think because I changed a few things at the same time! They certainly take the dogs longer to chew than the Greenies or Dentastix.
  12. Teeth cleaning without a GA is a service that is offered overseas so it obviously can be done.
  13. Sounds like the neighbor got bad advice from his vet friend.
  14. This forum has made me very tense about off lead dog stuff. I long for the days when I just turned up at a park, let my dog off and simply enjoyed it. Talking more about off lead spaces than the fenced parks. I've actually never had a bad incident or even witnessed a bad incident at such places. You might get the odd idiot but most people are pretty polite. Have just spent 3 days at off lead beaches and had no bad issues at all. I can only assume that the people on the beach were all dedicated owners as everyone had bothered to get to the beach at the designated time.
  15. Fingers crossed for Astro and hugs for you. Hope he is ok today.
  16. The dog didn't knock the person over though did it? If you are that infirm than a off lead dog park isn't the best place for you. A dog knocked me over at dog school once, shit happens.
  17. Letting the dog run around the carpark was silly. But nothing wrong with letting a dog run around an offlead park! If it wasn't menacing other people or dogs, as in running up to them then what is the problem. A dog running around is not necessarily out of control and it sounds like the dog did come back when called. Trying to train onlead walking in an offlead park is rather silly as you are setting your dog up to fail.
  18. It is the 'lassie' type behaviors that always astound me with my dogs. Like if I go out to feed the dogs and only Poppy is there, she will run off and get Amber. I guess she figured out that she gets fed quicker if Amber is there. Poppy also seems to know by my clothes if we are going out for a walk. Not sure how she knows the difference between gym clothes and walking clothes as they are pretty similar! Have had various border collies over the years alert me to problems with the other dogs and horses. Was out walking once and a friends dog wouldn't cross a river, it couldn't work out how to get over the stepping stones. We were all on the other side. My border collie ran back over, touched it on the nose and walked slowly over the stones to show the other dog how to do it. He had a pretty strong herding instinct so I guess was just wanting everyone to stay together but it was pretty cool to watch.
  19. Switzerland? Now you're talking!!! Or Tibet!!! The boss is in Switzerland this week and he hatesssss cold weather and thinks 40degrees is lovely!!
  20. Ummm if you send the OP a PM then surely they will realise that you are supporting them. That's right, didn't you know forums weren't for discussion! No threads to be created, all communication must be private If the people involved wanted a discussion about their breeding issues on General they would have put it on General and not in Breeders. Whilst it hasn't been done with any evil intent it is still bad forum etiquette.
  21. Got one of the usual 'what is that dog crossed with' questions yesterday about Amber. No idea why the colour confuses people so much. This time the guy actually apologised and said he hoped I wasn't offended. That was a bit different.
