  1. I thought it was against forum rules to bring stuff from Breeders to General. I just normally send the person a PM if I think I can contribute something.
  2. There's hardly any breeze here in the valley, nothing to worry about. I have a bit of PTSD from black Saturday. I hate the sound of helicopters now.
  3. I don't know if I am under the flight path for the helicopters or they just keep flying over to check the dandenongs. Either way it is a bit unnerving!
  4. Border collies have finally decided that inside under the air co is a good idea!!
  5. It was quite nice walking at 6am this morning. I was surprised there weren't more people out walking. Amber now appears to have forgotten she has already been out and it giving me her 'its time for walkies' look!
  6. The border collies are driving me nuts. They don't go in the padding pools. I bring them inside into the air con and they want to go back outside. I put them right in front of the sir con and Poppy appears to be scared of it. I try ice blocks, they look at me like I am trying to kill them!!
  7. Thanks iggy - if I didn't have to work in Adelaide tomorrow I'd take you up on it! No luck hiring an airconditioner - all gone. No luck with the caravan parks - no dogs in cabins - no exceptions. Now looking to some B and Bs - but having trouble getting them to answer their phone... Keep cool everyone. Maybe have a look at pet friendly rentals on the stayz website?
  8. Doesn't matter how many pets I had, I always felt guilty about leaving any behind :) I got a second indoor cat because I felt bad about the first cat being in the house alone when I went out and that did wreck the relationship I had with the first cat!
  9. Life was a heap more simple when I got my first bitch and prefix  I got the bitch first btw. Now I sound old
  10. I have a dog with a congenital problem (as most here know). It has cost me a lot of money, a lot of heart ache and has changed the way I live. I don't think this was the breeders fault at all. It is a pretty rare thing and certainly rare in my breed. What I did take issue with was the lack of care factor. And look maybe they were upset too and didn't know how to respond appropriately. I guess being a breeder doesn't mean you can automatically deal in a sensitive manner with a distraught puppy buyer. After telling them what was going on with the dog I had zero reply. I had a buyer/breeder relationship with this person for quite a number of years though and do feel quite 'burnt' by the whole thing.
  11. Most of the affiliated clubs (with Dogs Victoria) that I know of could be regarded as "casual" in that they don't run structured courses of so many weeks duration, you just work your way up and get back what you put in..................plenty of natter time before and after and friendships there to be made...........however many people are time poor and to have the dog they want in the shortest time, they need structure and regularity...................you get what you make of it None of the affiliated clubs in my area work like that Dragonwoman. They have structured courses. My club also has a fairly full on test. Once you get to a certain level they all move to trialling type classes. I've been going to an affiliated dog club for over 20 years btw and was an instructor. I've been hassled to compete in 3 different disciplines now and people just don't seem to get that I just want to go to club and have fun with my dog.
  12. I wish there were more fun, casual dog schools around in general. I don't like to compete but like to take the dogs out to dog school. With most of the clubs around here once you get to a certain level and don't want to compete you are kind of left without a class.
  13. Do you let them lick the lid clean? Mine think this is the best thing ever!
  14. I found a fact sheet on foxes and it said that they do go for baby goats and I assume this goat was pretty little? The sheet said they killed by biting the neck. A way to tell the difference was that a fox wouldn't have the strength to break bones, whilst a dog would.
  15. I had one removed with a local but I wasn't going to bite the Dr :) I can sort of see why they want to knock the dog out. If you google removing skin tag you will find the string method.
  16. Ummm I work full time and have always got my puppies at 8 weeks. Have never had any problems at all.
  17. So sorry that you are having issues. I wonder if there is something else going on though. That it isn't epilepsy. Did you mention how reactive she is in general to your vet?
  18. Yes smaller, more frequent meals are best. You don't want to give the liver too much to process at once. You could do a meal when you first get up, one when you leave and then 2 in the evening. Some people use the automatic feeders for the kibble too. I pay about $40ish for 60 of the metrogyl. I was giving Amber the amoxycillin at the beginning too. I guess your dog is smaller so needs less of the drugs. $24 actually sounds quite reasonable. I was paying more than that. A tip is to get the drugs in larger quantities as some vets charge a dispensing fee. I don't give Amber the lactulose because her poos are really soft anyway. I wanted to keep some stuff for if things got worse too.
  19. That is a fair amount of food for a little dog. Amber gets a cup of dry and half a tin of wet. So I would say plenty for your dog. Aren't those dogs little greedy guts anyway? :) If he is improving I would leave everything as it is. You might want to speak to your vet about changing to metronidazole for the antibiotic as it works out heaps cheaper.
  20. I do this if I see that kids in particular are scared. Have the dogs sit and do some focus as the kids walk past. I often hear the adults then talking to the kids saying stuff like 'look how well behaved those dogs are, don't be scare'.
  21. Some people may be crossing the road because THEIR dog is the problem. My cute, fluffy border collies hate GSD. I always give them a very wide berth.
  22. Amber is on l/d tinned and k/d dry. l/d dry can be a pain to get hold of. She is on metronidazole and 2 diuretics. You don't need a super low protein diet for dogs with liver shunts, they actually need decent levels of protein. What you need is easily digestible protein. Vegetable protein sources are easier to digest. Dogs with liver conditions are also prone to urinary stones so a low purine diet helps. The other thing to watch is sodium, this needs to very low. I sometimes feed Amber Pediasure, this is like Ensure for children. Amber also has vego doggy biscuits.
  23. This is how mine play too. They rarely play chasies, it is always bitey face. All my borders have played like this. The oldest dog has always been the one to lay down too.
