Firstly Persephone, I don't believe any of your 3 top suggestions ate correct. I base this on knowing the behaviour and personalities of the dogs involved (albeit lesser obviously in the case of the puppy as we are still learning about each other) The other dog is 12.5 years old and has not a mean bone in his body. He is far more likely to be beaten up by the pup. There has not been anything happen that would frighten him over the period the pups behaviour has started and he has no territorial issues. I feel that it sounds as though I am poo-hooing suggestions from people, sorry if it seems that way it is not my intention but as in any situation it is difficult to convey exactly what is happening in an internet forum and people will make their own interpretation of my description based on their ideas and experience. No idea has been rejected by me without due consideration. As a general rule , Dogs determine what happens next , anyhow ;) they do good things, they get praise/comfort/treats- they do play eliciting behaviour , and someone will play .... etc

I f she has another dog in teh run with her ( I missed that ) then several things come into my mind . The other dog has beat her up in the shed . The other dog has been very scared - and pup has reacted . The other dog has asserted territory rights. the best food is the food your dog does best on :) the breeder should provide a puppy pack - containing diet info, and some food to start with . Unless this food is very ordinary, like cereal/milk - stick with it until you need /have to change - then do it gradually . the following threads should be useful for you :) oh, and congrats! link link link link link link

if she has free access - then I wouldn't 'do' anything. Just put her in her run, when she's hungry - put bone/toys/food in the shed ..and walk out - no talking , or extra attention. See what happens after a few days/nights....let her work it out in her own time.perhaps that's what she needs . The only thing I would do is put in a nightlight ....

...and last night he squeaked his dominance to the local roos etc half the night! Seems he will be plenty strong enough to get the feral goats under control - we'll see .

Don is such a goof - doesn't have much forethought or malice or anything much , actually - this fluffball is one I am rather glad will be a worker - I have to work at keeping ahead of him NOW ;) He is also ten times more resilient and macho than Don . Love his looks ...his personality , well.... not so much.

that 'bunny hopping' can also be a symptom of pelvic fracture - or past pelvic fracture ....

he is just working out how to sneak up & bite Trubs on the leg - I have told him it is a very bad plan ! He hears Bruce the sheep "baaaa" in the yard .. ..and tears around to bark & carry on & put Bruce out the gate as best he can ... he plays tug-o-war with Don all the time ... last night he was inside with The Boss ..and tipped out a whole big bagful of old papers/books...., gave a dead mouse to The Boss , and slept under my chair ..

lean steak & chicken won't put weight on ;) Yummy stuff like peanut butter treats, chicken with skin & fat left on (thighs, for example) A spoonful of olive oil with a meal ,and also a handful of a good puppy dry food (can be soaked first ) .

Hopefully your vet will let you do a payment plan . Do NOT let the vet talk you out of a biopsy - it is your dog , and your decisions which count. best of luck with it .

When you're home - bring the staffy inside, on a leash :) What a shame she has to stay out ...if both dogs are on lead(chain) and on beds , chewing bones or whatever, things would be more peaceful perhaps?

That amount of exercise may not be enough for him though :) Exercise is NOT 'one size fits all' :)

hmmmm.. Ultimately , what is best for EACH dog is your responsibility . Your boy needs his walks, he needs to be out & about and doing young dog stuff - while it seems your girl needs a quieter lifestyle . It is unfair to the younger dog to spend life as an invalid , IMO. .... Depending on the stage of heart murmur - she may well be able to build up to a longer walk ... what does the vet say ? Other than that - if she were mine , she would learn to stay home with a treat/big bone/kong full of yummies while the boy gets his walks . OR , she would be safely strapped into one of of THESE ... and have an outing !! Oh .. and people with cute cavs HAVE to post photos for us to awww over ;)
