  1. Very common in beagles. I know lots of bitches that don't have a full set. We have some with 8 or 9 nipples.
  2. They are guessing the breed because, as Koala says, they are having a bit of harmless fun. Nothing sinister or dangerous in that. No one who has responded on this thread has speculated about breed characteristics inherent in this dog. And the OP said her relatives would be ensuring the dog received appropriate training. I think people who don't take themselves too seriously can agree that this little pooch is a Cattle X Corgi X Akita X Kelpie X Basenji X Shibu X BorderCollie, although Akita might be stretching it! Second that!!! I thought Basenji straight away - obviously combined with other breeds.
  3. We buy cat tunnels from The Reject Shop for our puppies. They absolutely love them. At the moment they have some for 12.00. Here is a link to our puppies playing in it a couple of weeks ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24d2fou_NQs That is fabulous tunnel Puglodge - what brand is that one? I like that it has holes down the length. Your puppies are beautiful ;)
  4. One of my dogs has had issues with her anal glands since she was a puppy. It doesn't matter what she is fed, they fill up very quickly. Within a week of having them squeezed she is dragging her bottom on the grass but I usually wait for a couple of months before I take her to have them emptied as I believe it might make the problem worse if it is done more frequently. It is a oily sort of fishy smell. In my girl it used to leak out sometimes when she was young and was a latte/straw colour. My vet only charges me $20 if that is the only problem instead of the normal consultation fee.
  5. Can't add much to that Tam Beagles are awesome.....mostly Seriously, most beagles can be stubborn, have selective deafness and yes their nose rules their brain. I know of beagles that have driven their owners to distraction but mostly, ours are easy peezy once out of baby puppyhood and not destructive at all. As long as they are not overweight they love to be busy and active but as Tam said they are also the ultimate couch potatoes and make excellent bed companions. I have never had trouble with toilet training but I never trust a beagle with food or a garbage bin within their reach when no one is around. Beagles like most dogs need to be part of your life and generally will always be happier with another friendly dog as a companion. I only had a couple of years involvement with beagle rescue (out now) but you get to see first hand how many beagles are sold to the wrong homes. Sure they don't all become a problem when housed outside but they deserve to live inside with their family as they are the ultimate "love bugs" when given the chance and have been specifically bred as a pack hound. A lone beagle is a sad beagle IMO. All of the above is a generalisation and beagle have different personalities like any dog and are largly conditioned by their environment and training. Not forgeting the first 8 weeks at the breeders home - how much they are handled and socialised plays a part too. As I said just my opinon....
  6. Bilbo Baggins, this is tragic As this story has been published, perhaps a good samaritan will do something about it. We can only hope
  7. Does anyone know where you can purchase the water dispensers for airline crates please?
  8. Thanks Showdog and Wayrod I've posted this to my FB.
  9. I second a chiroprator. If you can't get into the ones suggested, here is a link: http://www.avca.com.au/search_results.php?...&search=VIC Hope Chester is on the mend!
  10. I had a summer litter last year without airconditioning and it was nightmare - I said never again. I was planning on only taking 2 weeks of work but ended up having to take 4 just to keep the pups cool. I found I had to remove the dam from the box after she had fed them. The heat generated by her amazed me and the whelping box works too well at trapping heat. I used partially frozen hot water bottles wrapped in pillow cases. I had 4 and mainly used 2 in the box while 2 were in the freezer. The pups would fight over prime position on the bottles. Wet towels also worked for short period of time if you get stuck. Luckily my puppies were big and very strong at birth but I would be careful if you had a small or weak puppies in the litter that may not be so hardy as their littermates. There was a couple of problems. The pups got a bit snuffly but I guess this was from the cold on their delicate mucus membranes in their noses but this didn't last long. The other problem was that they developed a bit of a security issue with the bottles and wouldn't sleep without them. I tried to wean them off them and they wouldn't settle until I put them back in their sleep area at night Haha - I just realised my avator pic has a bottle in the background also!
  11. I haven't noticed braxton hicks contractions with bitches during pregnancy but then I haven't felt for them. No doubt they occur just like Liz mentioned.
  12. Suck the fluid and mucus from the airways with your mouth - when a bulb syringe just isn't going to cut it. Sounds eeewwh but it works particularly on a pup that has been stuck for a period of time.
  13. I thought the guy with the danes was a bit of a worry! It looked like he was thowing the stick into that rough surf from those rocks for the dogs to fetch - what was with that? Also treating the one with the ear infection with human antibiotics....
  14. Happy Birthday beautiful girl! Love from your grannie PS. She couldn't have landed in a better home - thanks Erin and Andrew xxx
  15. Does she only chew it when you are not around? If she will do it in front of you I would suggest trying to train her out of it with rewards, ie. spend the weekend watching her like a hawk telling her to stop and rewarding her when she does. If necessary put soft bedding in all her beds and the minute she starts begin the training. It would mean a weekend at home though and no bedding when you can't watch her.
  16. Sensible advice from Fifi. Feeding from mum is very important in helping her maternal instincts kick in so don't be too quick to pull out the bottles. Fingers crossed all will be well in a day or so
  17. How heartbreaking for you Bad enough losing them at birth but it's much worse when you have had some time to get to love them. Sorry Puglvr!
  18. Thanks Hesapandabear. I checked out the site but didn't see any mention of dog friendly. Do they allow dogs on site?
  19. Anyone recently made up a list of dog friendly accommodation close to Durack for their speciality breed shows, etc? I would really appreciate if you would send it to me Email to: [email protected] Thanks Hilary

  21. So sad... Hope someone can help poor Billy as it must be killing you to see him so unhappy.
  22. Yes Panxan she'll change. She will just end up with a black saddle. This is a link to a german beagle breeder/vet's website where the different hound colours are shown. http://www.lemon-drops.de/hound_colours.htm She also has our lemon girl Macey listed a one of her all time favourites in that section Sorry about the false pregnancy with your girl Paxon
