  1. Because tapioca does not contain protein, it is not considered a potential allergen or source of food sensitivity. This is especially important in limited ingredient diets that are designed for dogs with adverse food reactions .
  2. We board a few & not alot compared to a Goldie but its like an shedding breed brush weekly & buy yourself a budget barrel haird dryer & do dry blow outs each week & all is good . Spay coats can make them shed more as it often alters the texture
  3. This is why breeder s have so much detail in contracts these days .We have it clearly listed about severe medical issues that the vet deems the breeders fault requiring us to be informed for a second opinion before any action is taken because too many vets are getting it wrong . We had a puppy owner contact us with a horrid attitude that the pup they brought had a severe issue ,we contacted them by phone asap (they opted to email with no details just the pissed off one liner ,we did send a follow up email to cover us regarding contacting them) . We finally got told what & asked them to send the vet report .We got permission for there vet to contact our vet regarding the issues,x rays etc etc. Our vet was appalled at that clinic, for starters the x rays where positioned wrong ,what they had diagnosed was not an issue or even existed & yes there prognosis was major surgery on a pup . An issue was detected which was minimal & required no surgery & required them to see a doggy rehab specialist as the dog had been blind sided at the park & injured ,there vet was claiming a breeding issue . We asked for there vet to do a detailed report for our puppy folder on that litter & shock horror they refused to put anything in writing .They eventually refunded the pups owners vet bill . Issue is the puppies owner was so stuck up with blame mode they dont keep in touch . Sad that an idiot vet & clinic can cause such grief . I also experienced an issue with my own dog .We used the vet closest to us for an X ray due to an extreme heatwave & a simple procedure . Prognosis when i picked up my dogs hips where terrible & needed a double hip replacement . Vet obviously thought i was a numpty so played along . He showed me his x rays was pointing out the issue area when i decided to demonstrate im not an idiot . This was an 8 yr old dog who plan as day could see on the xray hips great but had severe spondolysis which they didn't advice . As we new the agenda of this clinic we resubmitted the x rays for hip scoring with Wyburn . Dog cam back with a slightly higher score than originally due to lack of flex but well below breed average but pointed out a minor HD would be nothing compared to the severe spondo . Took the report back to the vet & his reply did we pay for the report ,shit hit the fan bigtime . We also asked them to do a detailed report for the breeder who was fully in the loop plus having 2 other vets plus Wyburn read the x rays . Vet report still listed spondo as insignificant ,he had it severe in a bad place Sad part is pet owners dont question ,requestion or phone for some advice help
  4. I have owned a dog that required wheels ,its not simple in the house, you need to modify your home BUT if the dogs gets stuck they end up just as distressed or flip the cart which is worse . My dog had a quick release cart but was never left in it without us being there if just wasnt a safe option . We groom a dog that has very similar issues ,his degree of instability has been very bad the last few weeks, owners say its okay we see the change more than them ,there happy to ket him plod along if he was ours he would be given his wings ,mentally all there but the body is a sad sight & his diginty often lost in the process. I guess the one area you need to modify after this experience is outside access when your not able to commit 100% . Have been there with a blind dog ,we adapted for a year when out or unable to watch her as i couldn't cope if she died outside from the extreme heat or got stuck in terrible winter weather & passed away due to those ramifications .Her quality was no longer there .
  5. So you werent there when the pup was vaccinated .Who was ?? Did it also get wormed o, heartwormed or Canine cough at the same time?? In 30 plus years of breeding dogs & having dogs vaccinated the reaction is very small ,yes we lost puppies to C4 never had any issues with Nobivac but we can never say never & i will never not vaccinate my dogs im not an over vaccinater & we titre test our adults knowing very well that titre is not fall proof either but we will never not do our puppies . So what age did your pup get its first vaccine ??Just trying to figure the age gap .What did the breeder say ? The vaccine wont be taken off the shelf if the vet told you that i would be concerned, they may have removed those with the same serial number & you can do your own report as your vaccination card should have the sticker on it . Tetanus & distemper are still around not common but it happens & in some breeds a problem when teething due to all sorts of nasties getting in ,Takes a savvy owner & breeder to note that . If you buy another dog it will be vaccinated .Pups go with there first needle .
  6. We lead train our litter from 6 weeks ,no such thing as too young .Puppies are very compliant at a young age . Our pups in the litter also start pottering up n down the road from 6 weeks . There exposed to many things before they leave
  7. Cheery eye isn't the end of the world & shouldn't cause any issues after .It can happen in pure & crossbreeds .It can have many reasons including "shit happens " I applaud the breeder for getting the surgery done themselves ,they could have popped it back in & just sent it too you . Speak to your own vet if your concerned BUT you need to have a serious discussion with the breeder if your concerned ,nothing worse than the breeder finding out you asked for opinions in a forum
  8. I think you need to take a step back ,whilst vaccine reactions can happen the other side is not nice either & yes i can speak from experience after we lost 4/5 pups to C4 vaccine (first needle) it was proven to be a bad batch as the serial numbers matched other cases . Have also owned a dog who caught parvo twice & if it wasn't for the vaccine she would have died . I think common sense tells us that any chemicals whether it be pet or human has some form of risk & its tragic when we experience the worst case but it never put us off vaccinating Although the dog we know of that have vaccine sensitivities have reacted from the first one so how did pup fair for the other 2 needles??What did the breeder say when you told them ??I would be interested to know if it was "off " at its first shot & more so at its second shot as i gather this was the 3 booster normally given at 16 weeks if on schedule Did they administer the heartworm injection?? Did pup also have the canine cough aspect?? How quickly did the vet administer drugs to counter react the Anaphylactic shock?? Did your vet report the reaction with the batch number to the manufacturer ?? Did you get an autospy done or was the vet secrective about that option ,we would 100% had the test done to ensure no other contributing factors. It would come back with positive parvo as its a live vaccine
  9. Depends how big it is ,if small they will drain away with no issues on there own . If large they will still go away but you end up with a damaged ear ,we call it Cauliflower ear as thats what they look like end results & that can be a pain afterwards .The ear may also flop The risk of doing nothing is it gets bigger before smaller ,the head shaking may give it one on the otherside or the dog scratches the ear causing other drama's Never used pain meds when little only used pain meds after surgery for the few days .Never had a dog with an issue afterwards just got on normal ,the stitches stay in for 3 weeks with the tubes, eray film, button or pads depending on what the vet uses ,We only have tubes used Some vets depending on the size will inject a cortisone with good results although we have never used this option . The surgery is very simple & the vet can just give pre med in your care & take dog away. Ours have never required the cone afterwards & get on with normal life there & then
  10. Actually not true people are just realising how cheap Virgin was and now get to pay the Qantas rates . Qantas raised there prices 4 years ago as accompanied so there freight rate is worse . I paid $175 each for my 32 kg as accompanied on Virgin ,it was $300 each way Qantas 4 yrs ago . the last time I flew Qantas with the 3 dogs I got the old rates so $700 each what for the 3 . A connecting flight usually costs more than a straight flight . Mind you if using dog trainers or jet pets you will be paying a fortune
  11. Doubt overbooked there bumping pets of for freight so this could be an ongoing issue . Most of the pet transport companies are doing road travel to fill the void especially Melb /Adelaide or Melb/Sydney ,be a massive trip for a little one which ever way it gets to you
  12. So you have issues on the leash ,you need to start there . If you can't control your own pup in the backyard on the leash & have issues in public then that is red flags for you . You need to go back to basics with training or source a trainer who will get back on track
  13. Totally agree especially with a Britt they can be insanely needy & vocal so setting up for a real life routine is a must . Its ashame so many owners don't grasp that when they all think right now is perfect .
  14. Have they guaranteed those flights because they last info was bookings where only being taken 24 hrs before flight & no guarantee especially with rural . I would want a solid back up plan
  15. What’s her behaviour like in public when on a lead
  16. The better question is what is your long term plan and how do I raise the puppy to adapt too it . Personally I think chaining is cruel and not safe so would do a dog run over chaining . Puppies start as there life will be here ,there normal is every day so they feel comfy in that . im presuming this is a day plan for when at work so what is the rest of the day going to be inside/outside
  17. What has the breeder suggested . What was the diet suggested . How do you feed quiet area, hovering around puppy,do you feed at the same time ,do you leave food down,do you feed treats .What exercise and daily stimulation does pup get . Have you or do you hand feed it anything How are the puppies teeth ,teething is no fun for many puppies, What food is your pup eating as it obviously is eating . How underweight is pup
  18. Has the dogs thyroid levels been checked at .? As for your thoughts on PTS I 100% support your thought . A friend has been through the same scenario after a brain fungus issue the quality of life was not there and the after seizure behaviour was becoming more and more dangerous to the dog and the humans. They tried all options but there was no help
  19. What is his budget may make it easier to suggest . bonnie and coprice have changed there ingredients over time and what comes out the other end not worth the budget cost . Is he planning to feed just dry or is the budget going to cover dry and meat
  20. Yes we have owned blind dogs . I can only be brutally honest some cope very well others don’t . Given the whole trauma your dog has been through it will be struggling . Be prepared to be firm but fair ,you need to be prepared to suck up your feelings and be ready to give your dog new life skills and confidence you can’t be a wuss . Keep it simple ,build him back up with small successes. Carpet runners are great for giving touch tools to waster bowl, outside ,bed . Your dog is going to walk into things minimize the risk and make it simplistic. Have a puppy pen for time out or when getting overwhelmed . Encourage and reward head ring and smell cues ,those 2 tools will be its life saver . It May become overwhelmed hearing noises differently and smells making its head spin each way but this is when you need to be positive and encouraging . Clicker training can be great ,onlead walking the mud map . Your dog will likely walk with a goose step in the front legs as those front legs become its walking poles
  21. Taste of the wild pacific stream has no chicken fish4dogs do a no chicken variety There is a couple off others . i have a dog who can not have chicken off any kind . Also consider getting the thyroid checked
  22. I would not put in writing you will pay so much towards the procedure & the reason being they may decide to pick the most expensive vet around which will cost you more . It would be better to drop the price of the pup taking out what the estimated cost of surgery will be . The issue here is pet insurance for the new owners may be a problem as you have rightly so informed them of a pre existing condition so they will head straight to there vet where it will be noted in the system .So UTI 's may not be covered . Forget there a lawyer ,you are dealing with a puppy owner . First job is to inform them ,let them know what the pros/cons are off the issue ,send them the vets report which wont be massively detailed because there is the unknown in rectifying with age BUT it backs you up . Ask them to think about it as a family .Personally i would send a follow up email with it all in writing not just verbal . Then make sure you have it clearly written in your puppy contract that they are buying this puppy fully aware of its diagnosis & have been made aware of the potential outcomes . Lawyer or not you would have to do the same thing . This isn't a massive issue BUt it can be a tad costly for UTIs so important people are made aware . UTI can become an issue ,a good vet will absolutely suggest allowing 1/2 seasons to help assist if not severe .Even if not severe the UTIs can be just a bigger pain so surgery still the open . We own a bitch slightly inverted & she has no issues what to so ever . We groom a English Springer Spaniel that had constant UTI,sore vulva & drama's until she had the surgery than all good
  23. I would not pay that price for a crossbreed . I would expect the parents to both have current health testing & not a Vet said they where healthy line if there wanting to charge that much for pups . That is more than my pedigree pups which are registered ,health tested parents & full breeder back up . But I’m doubting this post is legit anyway and would have thought giving up weed if legit would have been important enough for the current dog
  24. The people who brought them in where very well known in the show world so the breed was easy to learn about back then & well promoted by those that had them . Your chow could simply be a chow or have Finnish Lapphund in it ,the Lappies are quite common in Australia & a better chance of one of those being used in a cross breeding than a Eurasier
  25. 5 months is also not long after a severe infestation . You need to do a food diary even if you head down the specialist path they will ask what you feed. What colour is your Dachie?
