  1. I would be buying what the pup is use to after in its the pup that has to deal with it it the human and one barf box isn't a big deal ,I wouldn't have expected the breeder if local to supply the food our puppy buyers are informed well in advance the diet sheet so any issues can be discussed
  2. Agree invest in buying a dryer now & teach your puppy to be blow dried, the dog doesn't have to be bathed for this to be done & you could do it weekly . You can buy very good budget dryers that will last many years if you look after them . Good slicker brushes ,a comb & in the perfect world a grooming table will be your best friend . And as already mentioned learning to embrace hair because it will be your new best friend but the more effort you make weekly to brush through & keep a good coat the easier it is & the less volume you will have
  3. In all fairness you have issues with your own dog that you struggle with you can't expect an older person to deal with it in there own home . I think the house sitter has made the right decision . You have a dog that has a disruptive lifestyle & a breed that is often very attached to there owners . Whilst i think dog walkers can be a great tool it sounds like this dog needs more consistency in its life & a better routine of where it belongs & what is expected . We run boarding kennels & i help show Springers & we board a variety of working & show lines & they all cope well because they have a structured routine BUT it won't change the lack of manners issues which you will be dealing with in June . Even a dog walker may not walk the dog if its lead manners are not there after all the wear & tear on the body isn't worth it . So if you do seek a dog walker ask alot of questions & go on a test run with them .
  4. Depends what sort of activity level you want to provide & what your expectations are when traveling .What general style of environment they dog needs to be good in & how much alone time it may spend . Do you want something that can easily sit in a good quality pen happily or something more reliant on being attached to a lead for quality time .by pen i mean to be used at times of just sitting around & dog confined with ample space to chill in its bed or have a play without being loose or always on a leash . There are plenty of breeds that would be ideal just comes down to what best suits you
  5. Find a good repo vet and see what they say if you truly want a litter from her. Get semen sent to you so you have it ready and look at the options in advance . I also would never ever vaccinate before a mating , If the breeder I f your girl is very knowledgable then yes contact them and ask there advice
  6. Until the general public start taking responsibility for there dog behaviors, toilet habits it will be a big ask. I often think obedience clubs should start catering more for classes which is more about going out & about in public & what is right & wrong instead telling people to leave if the collar or method they use isn't there ideal . I think clubs need to be more open minded & engaging to the benefits of a well trained dog if you want to go to pet friendly cafes, take the dog to watch there kids play sports etc etc . I now from our business point of view a boarding kennel people allow there dogs to poo & not pick it up or even tell us ,people walk there dog over to our BBQ to piss up it & the outdoor setting etc etc . We need to work at the bottom about why training classes & well behaved dog can be a joy in public not a right & then hopefully dog friendly cafes have the balls to turn people away with feral dogs or the im entitled attitude. I have been to some pet friendly cafes & truly enjoyed it & others a nightmare & made me be embarrassed to be a dog lover
  7. First off is your girl spayed ? Personally i would be in no rush & would be sticking to supervised plays .
  8. Can i just say my breed has suffered due to registered Breeders breeding for profit,i iwll add the worse offenders in our breed are vet nurses & vets ,one who happily supplied to a pet shop & encourages all there puppies to be breed from registered & unregistered in facts tells there clients how they should be to make a living & brainwashes all the follows about outcrossing guarantees no health issues . A few of our puppy buyers have contacted us over the years because the vets have told them not to spay there dog(compulsory with us) because they wish to breed from it or have a client base looking for crosses.whilst this is off topic to this post the vet industry has alot to answer for as well & there are more out there just pumping any pup out than many would like to think ,lets face it some of the puppy farms are run by vets . Over the years we have heard vet nurses told alot of rubbish & had to fast track quickly when questioned on there info there handing out . We board alot of Frenchies,Pugs,Bulldogs all healthy, long lived & very functional in summer mind you some of these people have been made to feel like cruel owners for getting the breed from the vet staff & some stuff they have been told is down right disgusting ,scare mongering is not classy . I now at a show once with my breed a vet nurse was telling me about how they see so many & the health issues .Played the game & asked alot of questions ,then asked what breed ,the idiot couldn't even identify the breed & in there superior knowledge thought my dog was that breed ,boy did she cope a mouthful & how many other breeds had this person done the same too .
  9. You need to go back to basics and pup needs to go walks on its own to set it up for success, given the pups age the walk would be short anyway but this time s a crucial time for lead training .Uf you want pup to accept pram then do exercises at home without the toddler being in the pram and spend the time teaching pup what the pram is without all the distractions and attention the pram gets . There is no point displaying the puppy for something it has no clue about or how it should react to it
  10. I just block the grps ,can always unblock but that way I see nothing
  11. From this age through to final teeth the ears will change at 9 weeks we will tape show puppies
  12. I would never vaccinate a pregnant bitch again or even before mating learnt the hard way I would titre test in this case before I did a Vacc even if just the parvo Vacc
  13. When you say inside is the dog going to sleep outside or in,do you have a dog proof fenced area ,do you have live stock around you . What do you want from your dog great outdoors type ,snugly indoors type ,both . What do you consider medium height a Labrador or smaller . Do you want something that needs trips to the groomer or wash n wear keeping in mind that can determine shedding and cost work
  14. You will need a very sturdy puppy pen & a tall one or one with a lid & to be honest keeping any active gundog puppy in one all day will not be successful i am surprised a breeder would say yeah that will work ,pens are great & we use them BUT not all day & you cant use it for ever your pup will out grow it very quickly & you need to then decide on what that next plan is & as the cat is indoors only i gather the pup will have to be outside from then on so you need to set the pup up from day one to fit into its living arrangements As a gundog owner who works from home mine would never cope being confined that long ,yes there puppies but don't under estimate an active breed puppy there not for the faint hearted & there very good thinkers
  15. We just buy a single mattress you can get some good ones fairly cheap and thick
  16. Yes just ignore you have to take the good with the bad and at present the pup isn't sure so going outside as often as possible is the key ,also if nothing happens come inside then encourage straight and lots of toilet words .The pattern of today is pup hung on all day until home so at have had more to toilet than one hit so next time that where you do the outside again Don't worry about toileting out and about some will others won't but in time your pup will learn to loo on the lead but for examp,e walks here is not for toileting but as my dogs are show dogs they are taught as pups to toilet whilst on lead but its baby steps and your baby step is backyard for the loo. Keep in mind if pup has been encourage to toilet inside in the pen some get confused about what is right/wrong so be very regular about outside for loo.Walks, car drives is about life experiences
  17. Walking doesn't go on month ,the length goes on the age of the dog your pup can go for short walks every day which is very important to see the outside world ,.Your pup sounds like it's very reliant on you for being it's fun and you need to train it to be its own fun You don't need to reward being quiet in the pen because all your doing is disrupting the correct behaviour just go about until pup asks to be out . Don't over use the pen there a great tool but your pup is old enough to be having more out time and learning independent manners ,we recommend pens to our owners for over night sleeping, times pup can't be watched, sleep time and those with young children but we stress that over use that's away a pups independent thinking so you need to manage the time spent in to the time spent out
