  1. My breeder told me and I have to agree, once a Dobe bitch dislikes another bitch, thats it. They will never get along.
  2. I had two Dobe bitches grandmother/granddaughter. Everything was fine until they were 8 and 2. There was some minor body language issues but no growls etc. It culminated in them both trying to cock their leg on the same thing at the same time and then it blew up. Young dog tried to kill old dog, luckily old dog was wearing an extended neck coat, which was shredded. The old girl also wore a basket muzzle when out as she had had 3 gastric surgeries and lost the ability to tell when she was full and had pica. I do believe the fact that she couldn't fight back and get her teeth in helped to save her life. I got to them within minutes and when I roared the young one backed off and I grabbed the old girl and threw her in the house, shut the door and locked the young one in the dog run. My old girl hated her litter sisters but was not too worried about other bitches. As my younger bitch got older she thought she was vastly superior to just about all dogs, didn't fight as her ice queen look was enough for any dog. Was fantastic with pups and young dogs and good with other breeds, not so good with Dobe bitches, but wasn't a raving loonie. I kept mine separate until my old girl died at nearly 12. It was a bit hard as if the wrong thing was done it could have been a disaster. I was the only one that fed and moved them around etc unless specifically organised. I do have to say the pressure relief when I didn't have to do it was rather large. Yes I could have rehomed, but we live on acerage and I could run them separately. I could walk them together and they would ignore each other but never ever would I leave them alone, ever.
  3. I lost two to cardio one at 11 one at 8, one had wobblers. I feel your pain. I couldn't have another, however there are some very good breeders doing really good things. All the best with finding your new mate
  4. oh that is terrible. I am so sorry for your friend
  5. OH be still my beating heart, have a huge soft spot for Rotti's and so want another one day :) For now I have a foster Failure Big Red Dog, but one day......dreams******* Totally gorgeous
  6. I believe at large show such as these, the BOB's at least should have a short "critique" as to why the judge picked them. And yes a panel of judges may well be a good idea. I haven't yet seen the GSD's at Crufts so cannot comment on them. IS it the judges or the breeders? keep getting presented with extreme dogs they become the normal, keep awarding extreme dogs they become the norm that more people aspire to. Not an easy issue to deal with.
  7. That would annoy me as well, but it is probably built into the software. Our vets can send you one but don't automatically. They don't even ask me
  8. Oh and I react to all bitey things. First huntsman bit was just insanely itchy and was about 50cent piece size on my foot. The other two were on my neck - funnily enough the spiders got offended at nearly gettimg squished in my jacket collar. They were very angry red and made me unwell. Fairly typical for me though
  9. I have been bitten 3 times by huntsmans, very sore and itchy and a nasth headache that goes for 3 or 4 days. But not too bad on the scheme of things. They are good spideys, I just don't hang my jacket outside anymore :)
  10. Had ataxia and vomitimg in cats but not seen that in dogs
  11. Can't be too un comfortable if she does it by choice
  12. Having an entire male does not make somebody totally irresponsible. Allowing your dogs to roam and kill others does.
  13. That decision is one you alone can make. There is no right or wrong period of time for grieving. I hope you put can get some quality time with you over the next little bit.
  14. I have K9 Cruiser and Road refresher. I take the middle bit out of the road refresher or the dogs are always licking the plastic floating bit. I prefer the K9 Cruiser bowls
  15. So apparently he is smart and causes no issues and should be left alone. However in the fairly small universe of DOL people have been snapped/nearly bitten and numerous accoubts of near misses with hitting him and accidents with bikes etc. Hmmmm the romantic notion and reality and slowly creeping further apart it seems.
  16. I didn't have pigrails and had no issues. My bitch was reasonably careful but not hyper vigilant
  17. Geez, he was a boof head when he was born. My whippets were from 325 to 385grams, maybe he things he is part Whippet? Gorgeous babies, cannot believe that much time has passed from watching her mumma's tummy growing.
  18. Oxytocin/Syntocin is a fantastic drug, but as with any it is not without side effects or potential issues, especially if given at the wrong time. I have used Syntocin in conjunction with and under guidance of my vet and it caused no issues. Liquid calcium is very beneficial.
  19. The current recommendation is to give oral calcium after the first pup is born and then after each subsequent one. I did this and it definitely helped.
  20. He can be shown. By tradition he is a hunting dog, hunting dogs get scars. I understand you are very upset,as I would be,I also kbow Vizsla'a are very soft and it would have been traumatising for him. Now is the tine to get him out and about near dogs - but no he does not have to play with them and yes you can tell anyone who tries to allow their dog to approach to F off if they don't listen to your first few polites no thank yous! Get him out and about and neutralise him to other dogs. He will be fine to show scars or not,the hair may grow back,it may not. If a Dobe can title with a patch of hair missing and scarred on his showside the size of the hand and fingers stretched out, then a few tooth holes are nothing
