  1. No issues so far in my 3 years of running my kennels. His set up sounds very poor in general. Crap fences and crap supervision and crap ideas
  2. You haven't met many dogs then. if your dog never barked I would get him checked ... I had a dog that was 4 before he barked which only happened because he was super excited - he was a tad confused as to where it had come from. He has barked a handful of times all only when super excited and I haven't heard him bark in ages. There is nothing wrong with him actually.
  3. Crap that is horrible news. Yes Aspergillis is a big pain in the butt. I do know of 2 dogs who have had curative treatment for it. I hope you get good news
  4. If your dogs chew leads put lavender oil on them. Smells good, tastes bloody awful! My dogs don't pull so snapping things due to lunging/pulling is not much of an issue. The BRD can get a bit excited and will sometimes hit the end of a lead - not really hard but it's there, so we are working on that. Having said that she does have an amazing leave and recall.
  5. They need euthanasing. And how has this not happened before? and why were they out free when a medical professional was due to visit?
  6. They really do though, have you seen the websites for puppy farms or dodgy kennels? They sell themselves amazingly, respond to any and every enquiry (easy when you're not at all discerning) and post constantly. I actually think they market themselves better than ethical reg breeders a lot of the time. Agreed. They are very smooth. I would love to win lotto and set up a program where by people doing it tough, could get their dogs desexed and vaccinated for nothing. I really think that would stop a lot of pups being bred/dumped/given away to unsuitable homes. Unfortunately at this point I cannot afford to do it.
  7. I COULD have sold 30+ pups over the last few months as "the demand was there" Would I have sold that many? I doubt it because many of the homes were not suitable. So even if people want one of something doesn't meant hey should have one of something. Good breeders breed for the breed first and foremost. If they bred purely to fill demand I would question their ethics.
  8. So what is a proper working dog? A working dog is one - in this case - who works or moves livestock. If they can and do move livestock then they are a "proper" working dog
  9. A working dog as far as the council is concerned is a dog that works stock. That ability may need to be demonstrated. So if she can move stock through yards or from one paddock to another and demonstrate control then she is a working dog. I am not sure if our local one only has certain breeds or not??
  10. Geez, that sounds nasty and sounds a bit like the owner set the dog onto her which is just disgusting
  11. Geez! I have no issue with culling rabbits as yes they are pests but seriously, people on that FB page have no issue with rabbits having that done to them?? Seriously twisted people out there. BY all means cull pest species but do it as quickly and painlessly as possible you jerks!
  12. I would have it removed. It is rare for it to resolve to a point a dog with a damaged tail tip wont do it more easily again in future
  13. Welllll for now I found an old polarfleece bed cover I made for a foam mattress I had to throw out after a cat pee'd on it a number of times. I folded up a queen sized doona and will add another single one. I am going to buy one like Roovas though I think. Just need to save up :)
  14. I have the cool champions coats but need one for the BRD and her size is kinda pricey in Cool Champions ones so will look at the links
  15. She has that in the garage, but I wanted this for inside and her tramp bed is a bit enormous and won't fit in the lounge room Roova I like those!! Thanks :)
  16. Jesus that's horrifying, I would surrender them for euthanasia promptly!
  17. Well, I had a polar fleece cover in the cupboard I had made to cover a piece of foam that one cat ended up peeing on and I couldn't get the smell out so I had thrown out the foam but kept the cover. I have two Queen sized doonas, so I folded them up to fit and stuffed them in the cover. No it doesn't have sides, but it's soft and warm and easily washable and she seems very happy with it. I do like that Costco bed! When I drive over next year I will buy two :)
  18. I am after a bed for inside for my around 50kg Big Red Dog I want soft with sides, kinda fluffy. Washable, even better if I can zip off covers and wash Around 90 to 100cms Doesn't go flat in a week Not super expensive Throw your ideas and even better, links, at me please
  19. In my defence I have 5 dogs - knew getting number 5 would be good for something ;) 4 wire crates 4 soft crates 1 Vari kennel crate 6 raised tramp beds 4 soft beds 1 plastic kennel brick kennels and runs more polar fleece blankets, old doonas and god knows what else to count. around 200 towels - mum gave me heaps from the units she cleans for, most are down the kennels 8 pieces of vet bed 2 dog mats covered in faux sheepskin and cotton 4 double polar fleece blankets made by a DOLer or is that 5, can't remember around 12 to 15 dog coats - can't remember I have rehomed some and made more. Cool coats and mats And I don't want to think up any more!!!!
  20. Interestingly I got bitten for the first time ever by a dog who had never bitten before. Difference was I was well aware he had poor social skills but that also included no growl and just a lunge and grab. Luckily for me years of being confined to a brick courtyard and chewing on bricks meant his teeth were very worn down. Lovely dog just way over stimulated at that moment. Lucky for him he has amazing new owners who are doing everything they can to help a dog previously severely let down. Anyway, I am off point. My Whippets have been trained to wear light racing muzzles. Yes I have them in my dogs gear bag. One can be a bit so so if dogs get in her face and the youngest used to nip the others when playing and once opened my bitch up accidentally so they both will wear muzzles. We also park in the tradie area all the time when getting supplies as a lot of the stuff we get is the same as the tradies buy. We just don't have an account and pay with cash :)
  21. When a snake has its head flattened lifted and coming straight at me with increased speed it is rushing me. I don't care for pedantics. I have been around this lot long enough to have a reasonable idea of their behavior
  22. Then they are weird. I live with them every day. This os what they do here. And yes I know it is the vibration. Tell a human to make noise and they stamp their feet and move around lots. I also know if there is too much coming from all directions a snake will sometimes appear to go straight at something when it is actually trying to get away but can't tell where that is.
  23. Yep, some days I think I might pick everything up and move to NZ! After coming extremely close to stepping on 4 snakes in one week, one only avoiding it as it pulled it's head back and then flicked its tongue out which I am sure touched my heel - or was so close that I actually had a full on Donald duck tantrum with stamping feet - in the shed after the door slammed shut! The kids were riding their push bikes down to our first gate, I was walking the dogs, there were a little ahead, but not much. I was walking towards them and said "boys, snake, here, now! there was a snake coming out of the trees across open gravel straight towards them, it had 50 acres or paddock to disappear into, nope it was meandering straight towards them even though they had ridden there minutes before, dropped their bikes and were happily jumping/walking around. It wasn't being aggressive or defensive just didn't care about the noise and movement it apparently does care about. You never stop being on alert and you never stop scanning. You rarely see the trees, the sky the clouds the birds unless yous top walking and look up. Whilst you are walking around your eyes are scanning where you are going. They slow up in winter but it only takes one 20 odd degree day and they are out and active but even more grumpy.
