  1. I'm really sorry this happened to you. Young children should never, ever, be allowed to walk a dog of any size IMO, even if the parent is supervising. They are so lucky this situation didn't end in tragedy.
  2. Well we're confirmed, saw 6 little ones on the ultrasound :D
  3. It annoys the hell out of me as well, which is why I am constantly updating and changing mine...maybe I do it a little too often but I get bored of the colours and theme pretty quickly
  4. When ZsaZsa, brat Vizsla, could not get birds on the wing in the back yard, she took to catching the skinks. Had several generations of tailess critters. Yet, in the field, ZsaZsa always could retrieve. :) My fools chase and catch bees........
  5. Birds seem smart enough to stay out of my yard, the Samoyeds are a death sentence to anything that flies too low.
  6. Have a look on the DOL lapphund breeder listing. I believe there are a few puppy notices up at the moment.
  7. Peanut butter! It works great on the long coated dogs so should be brilliant for a short coat.
  8. The Norwegian Elkhound would be the closest in appearance and temperament that we have in australia. There are also Samoyeds, Finnish Lapphunds, Swedish Lapphunds (very rare), Swedish Vallhund if you are after a herding temperament. Or Finnish Spitz, Akita (american or japanese) or Shiba.
  9. First family dog was a Weimaraner. But my first dog was my Labrador Retriever, Lestat. He's an old man now but still going strong. I wouldn't say he was too much dog for me at all, in fact to date he is still the easiest dog I've owned. But I love a challenge and enjoy more spirit in my dogs. I won't have another Lab however I would recommend the breed to a new owner.
  10. With any luck we will have a litter of Samoyeds due on the 21st :D
  11. I'm fairly certain there are none in the country.
  12. Sounds like Bombon El Perro. Absolutely beautiful movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozBp1k21i0A
  13. Karelian Bear Dog to help me hunt and guard me from attack.
  14. You've picked two very different breeds in regards to temperament. I can only echo what RuralPug has said, go to a show and meet both breeds and speak to breeders about what would suit you more.
  15. I love this age because they sleep so much! In a few months you'll miss it ;)
  16. None of our Samoyeds had moved before this time recently and they were all fine. I was sure they'd bark heaps as well going from country to town but they were surprisingly good. My poor Lab however didn't cope at all and this dog has moved many times in his life but this time it was just too much for him. He cried for days and I was forced to give him rescue remedy just to keep him from losing it. He settled eventually and is now totally fine but those first few days were pretty shitty.
  17. I always head down to Bermaguai. It's stunning down there with plenty of dog friendly beaches and most of the caravan parks allow dogs. Not sure about any state forests, I'm pretty sure everything is national park around there otherwise.
  18. Spitz breeds are known for their willful natures. Granted some are more people focused than others. You're dealing with a primative type of dog that has been bred for thousands of years to think for itself so although they love their people and are focused on them, they're still going to do what they want, when they want to do it. The trick is convincing them that you're the brains of the operation ;) I wouldn't call them aloof with their owners but they can be like that to strangers some times and some breeds are worse than others.
  19. They look great, I am a fan of Hurtta gear, the quality is always awesome - think I might be doing an order It really is and I have to say these are the best cool coats the dogs have ever had. I splurged while I was in Finland as they were so cheap there! Now I'm wishing I'd bought more lol
  20. I have Hurtta Cooling Coat for the Samoyeds and I love it. Stays cool for hours and has a cooling chest piece which I've never seen on the others. However you do have to wet them.
  21. I always just changed a kids costume to fit the dog. They're super cheap and easy to find at those $2 stores
  22. Love spitz breeds but have zero interest in owning Schipperke or Shiba Inu
  23. I don't think many of the tribal groups would have survived well at all without dogs. Look at how so many of them survived almost totally with the help of their dogs to protect their food source, hunt, tranport them and in some cases even clothe them. Actic exploration would have next to impossible without dogs as well. I don't know abpit heritage listing breeds but if it did happen I would pick the primitive and spitz breeds that have been around for thousands of years.
