  1. I am a constant reader of this thread as my kelpie is fear reactive and I have been working hard with her on her reactions to other dogs - I don't post much but had to just share that after working with her to have her drop when we come across other dogs on our walk we had a really confirming day today. She did not react at all - besides watching the dog go past ( we had crossed the road - I am not willing to push her limits by putting her in too close proximity) and then managed herself in a fairly busy vet waiting room with a staffy pup who wanted to play and several small fluffies. I am feeling confident with my abilities to mange her and to manage the way we react to other dogs on our walk - she is never going to be an easy dog but she is so much better - feeling quite proud today. Thank you to everyone who shares in here - it us heartening to follow the journeys of the different dogs and the techniques people are using
  2. I love my home comforts - so a soft bed is a must I am pretty high maintenance coat wise - need regular visits tot he groomer but don't shed much. I am happy to go out for walks and love to visit new places - and new people I like kids but also like to have a space I can go to when I need some space I like to talk Food motivated but have a tendency to overeat Love having baths
  3. As the title says I met the most gorgeous little kelpie today - he was so social and friendly. His owner (an older man) was walking him in the Adelaide parklands and Reg - the kelpie - came up to say hello and we got talking. The owner was so positive about the experience he had working with AWDR and just how well Reg had settled in and bonded with him. Such a nice experience and so lovely to see a dog and owner so happy together - Reg was obviously in doggie heaven :)
  4. Piper I would love to know where this is - I am out north and my 2 like the beach but I dont take them as the kelpie can be reactive and the hound needs to be on a long leash anyway - a deserted beach (no matter how smelly) sounds lovely
  5. Heeler x - PTS at about 11 - cancer, staffy x - PTS at 16 - slowed down about 13 and started showing signs of age, kelpie x shepherd (?) - PTS - 14 - arthritis and aging signs about 12 but still enjoyed a bitey face with the kelpie pup when we brought her home. Currently - Bloodhound is 4, kelpie is 5 - think the bloodhound will slow down much sooner than the kelpie.
  6. Mine sleep in their crates - the kelpie is in a soft crate in the walk in robe where it is nice and dark and enclosed for her and the hound is in a wire crate by the window - covered with a lovely purple satin sheet. They both race for the bedroom door and wait somewhat patiently to be told to go to bed as soon as they see me make a move towards to pantry to get their treats. Once they are in bed they snuggle down and usually not a sound is heard form them all night (except maybe a bit of nylabone chewing from the hound - and snoring *L*)
  7. I'm still coming to grips with some advice given by a Bloodhound person... don't get one unless you can cope wth drool on every surface of the house including the ceiling I couldn't own a breed that didn't make double digits - that's one area of some breeds I'd like to see "edited". Very true about the drool - definitely something I would edit from the Bloodhound :)
  8. Hugs to you all Jules - Joey was an absolute sweetheart and such a great ambassador for the breed. Run free gorgeous boy XXXXXXX
  9. My dream dog would have the bomb proof temperament of my kelpie x girl, the fluffy coat of a Lappie, the smoochiness of my blood hound and the intelligence of my kelpie. I want a dog I can snuggle on the couch with at night, that I can walk without constantly scanning the horizon for other dogs, that the kids and their friends can play with.........
  10. My Bloodhound loves them - my kelpie thinks they are something to be worried about
  11. From one Earl to another :)Just gorgeous
  12. My bloodhound has a good snore on him at times - real deep and rumbly
  13. the lick sticks sound great - would love to try them with my kelpie - are they available in Australia? ETA - have just ordered some through vet n pet direct :)
  14. it's already discounted for desexed dogs - I don't think charging extra to become a breeder will help at all - this might even encourage people who haven't thought about breeding to think - well - I am now a registered breeder so why not? The responsible owners will continue to do the right thing and the uneducated, uninformed owners will continue to pump out cute puppies from their family pets for whatever reasons they choose to justify their choice.
  15. Just checked Radars page - is she the one posted "I want my dog and pups back" on Kodas photo? I agree - forward on any details and contact the police - you have done such a brilliant job with Narla and the pups - no way do you want them falling into the hands of any undesirables
  16. Rosie has a soft plastic muzzle form k9 pro but might buy her a lighter wire on for this
  17. I have a kelpie who loved it last time - and I have a muzzle - hopefully can get to some of these - although might leave the hound at home this time :)
  18. Excellent - I watch it with my class every week - I'll be able to tell them I know someone famous *L* They will be very impressed
  19. My mum and dads terrier had a really bad habit of sneaking up and humping your arm if you had it hanging down over the arm of the chair - until the day he tried it with my cousin who had a lit cigarette in his hand no major injuries thank goodness but a very wary terrier
  20. Sending positive vibes to you and Ziggy - it's so scary when they aren't well
  21. Well - apart from having a 'stoned' dog last night due to the pain killers Earl has been pretty settled - he is letting me put the drops in his ears - thanks to a constant feed of chunkers as it is happening. It is obviously not a comfortable experience for him but the vet said their is no damage to the eardrums - thank goodness - and it is mainly due to his ear canals being so deep and the environment being warm and moist and a perfect breeding ground for yeast. Will go back in on Friday to collect more ear drops - they don't last long at all - and will be back to the vet in abut 10 days for another swab.
  22. Well - he has yeast infections in both ears and ear canals that almost reach his toes they are so deep (OK - slight exaggeration) But they are clean and he has painkillers and anti inflammatories and I have to clean his ears every day and go back every two weeks for swabs until they are cleared up. Poor thing - glad now I spent all that time training him to let me squirt stuff into his ears as I have to do it twice a day *sigh*
