  1. I'm all for abolishing puppy farms and if it wasn't for people trespassing on to farms, whether they be for dogs, pigs, chooks etc, we'd probably never know the horrors some animals endure. I dont support Oscars Law because I dont know alot about it/them but I'm not entirely against them exposing the cruelty that goes on that the average person on the street knew nothing about. If they've broken trespass laws I am sure the courts will deal with them.
  2. I've never read up on it. I've seen alot of negative comments on DOL about it, but never the actual reasons why.
  3. He seems to be having them more here than he does with IM too. I'm wondering what is causing them, am I doing something wrong or is it a change within him that's causing them to be more frequent. I'm very structured in their feeding times, and 3 of his fits have been exactly when I start feeding, 7am. All 3 of her dogs were a little bit chubby so I'm feeding them less than what they normally get at home. I'm wondering it that has something to do with it so this morning I gave him 2 little pebbles of dry food as soon as we woke up, in the hope of it giving his tummy something in case he's hungry, just to see him through to breakky.
  4. try going to greyhound tracks. I know Healesville has a bloke who makes them with sturdy upholstery fabric on the outside and they fit into a standard sized crate. They used to be about $8, not sure what they cost now though.
  5. Penny whippet has visited an old peoples home several times in the past although she's not a qualified therapy dog. Just yesterday I took her and Iggy Mums little Italian greyhound Zoey to the hospital Iggy Mum is staying at, not to see her but another patient wanted to see IM's dogs after she'd told her so much about them. The hospital allowed me to take them around to the outdoor area and the patient came out to see them. She was so happy, she was nearly crying and said it had made her day.
  6. speak of the devil poor little Beau's having one now, I'm cuddling him and typing one handed. Once again it came on at feeding time, so I can see a definite pattern. He looks to have recovered now, so it's lasted about 15mins all up. He wanted to get off my lap and he's all waggy tailed again. I feel like his are brought on by either hunger, maybe it's something to do with blood sugar,or just excitement at the prospect of food. I forgot to mention, my own whippet Tag has similar seizures, but his are so far apart he cannot be medicated, and I haven't worked out a pattern to his, they seem to happen at night mostly, although not always.
  7. I couple of years ago I filmed IMs Zoey having one, before I realised what was going on. If I can find the vid I'll post it for you.
  8. It sounds exactly like what Iggy Mums 2 IGs have. Yes they're mild seizures, they are conscious during them and appear frightend, but once they're over they go back to the happy little dogs again. I've been looking after IM's dogs while she's in hospital, and so far Beau has had 3. I just pick him up and hold him quietly until it passes, he seems to get comfort from being cuddled while it's happening, but I try not to make any sudden movement or sound. With each one I've seen him have it's been at a time of stimulation, dinner time in his case.
  9. what is old for a sheep, how long do they live?
  10. Ask your vets advice. congrats on the new puppy, you must be so excited. I hope you realise photos are compulsory.
  11. thanks everyone. I didn't know they were called velcro dogs, but he already seems to think her hubby is his bed and as soon as he came inside he wanted to get up on dads lap to snuggle and sleep.
  12. I've only ever seen these sheep in hobby farms, usually less than 10 in a flock. So would that mean the big flocks of sheep I see are wool sheep, and then what happens to wool sheep when they got too old?
  13. There are breeds of sheep that are bred for meat because they have heavy muscling and are lean, like Texel sheep, and there are sheep that are bred for mainly wool, like Merinos. Then there are crosses, like Border Leicester X Merino sheep that produce good quality carcases as well as fine quality wool. However, young Merinos can also become spring lamb, usually the males. So as you can see sheep are very similar to cows, some breeds are dairy cows and others are beef cattle. I'm much more familiar with telling beef and dairy cows apart, I know they use some dairy/beef cross breds to breed beef cows with because they have plenty of milk for the calves, but the sheep I see mostly look the same, they grow long wool and get shorn, usually in the colder part of the year, another thing which confuses me, why dont they shear them in Spring so they're cool for Summer?
  14. the old girl looks good for a teenager. You've reminded me of something I want to know about sheep. When you said yours dont get sold, do you mean they're wool sheep? I never quite understand where our meat lamb comes from. I thought all the sheep I see are for wool because they usually get shorn. I dont recall ever seeing meat sheep in the paddock, or would I not be able to tell the difference. Or are the sheep I see getting shorn still sold off for meat after a year or so?
  15. what actually happens there? I looked at the link and it doesn't give any real info about what it is.
  16. ewww no kisses from Callie thanks, poor sheep, what would have killed it?
  17. When were the puppies weaned off her?
  18. thanks all, he was absolutely gorgeous.
  19. How long do you think I can get five dogs to sit there with petit fours in front of them?! I only took 8 photos and this was the first one. Jackson was struggling with the whole "sit and wait and they're not all for you" concept! they should be called petit paws
  20. so L-R it's Chopper, Bruno, Trixie, Jackson and Angel, right? I dont think I've ever got my 5 to even stand side by side for a photo, so I'm impressed at your training. and that's good news about Trixie too.
  21. this is just one side of the boys, but it's fairly typical. 5F6A3080dppt by kirislin, on Flickr
