  1. Spiders creep me out too, but they're so interesting to photograph. I dont think I'd be getting so close with a huntsman though.
  2. I cant wait for you to get your own. You already have such an eye and talent for photography, the photos you take are amazing.
  3. I love the river red gums, my equal favourite tree, along with snow gums. I can see a red dragon fly near the spider. Did you get any of that/ Is this a borrowed DSLR or your own?
  4. The range I've mentioned doesn't give you wide angle though, I dont know if you like that as well. Clicking Mad takes some amazing and creative wide shots. They're good for landscapes too. Hopefully someone else will chip in with some other opinions for you.
  5. The way I see it with grey imports is that places like DWI are so cheap I liken it to buying a 2nd hand camera, except with a 2nd hand camera you dont know how it's been treated or how many pics it's taken. Grey imports are still covered by a warranty, just not Canons but the odds are against something going wrong. It's a risk but the reduced price makes it worth it.......I hope.
  6. she's improving but I haven't been taking her for any walks, I take the others and she has to stay home. The other night she woke up crying so it happens even when she's doing nothing. I massaged her neck and it seemed to stop the spasms but I plan on taking her to a greyhound vet who also does manipulation, next week hopefully.
  7. They've gone quiet now, I suspect I frightened them off. I didn't actually see the dogs either so I wouldn't be able to identify them. I thought about climbing through the fence to get a look at them but then thought I dont know whether they'd have a go at me so decided against it. I've had roaming dogs threaten me on my own property so would rather not take the risk.
  8. I could hear big dogs barking in that voice they use when they've got something bailed up, like they're calling for back up. I drove down to where I thought it was coming from and sure enough I could just see through the bush from where I was standing on the road side, a kangaroo and joey standing in the dam. I couldn't see the dogs but I roared anyway at them to piss off and cracked my trusty stock whip a few times. They've gone silent so I hope they've left the roos alone. It gets harder and harder for the native wildlife here to just live their lives and it pisses me off.
  9. My dogs are all Deerhounds, so it sounds like the colour may be attracting them. Since you pointed this out, I noticed that the Borzoi we walk with in the mornings are completely left alone by the March Flies, but they buggers followed my dogs for several kilometres. They are already struggling a bit in the heat, so I won't be able to but shirts on them (although it is an excellent idea!). They are not biting their ears, but even the noise is enough to send my old girl into a blind panic. What about a light say, cheesclothy type scarfy snood in RED? something loose and stretchy, just try it around their necks. you might be surprised, it might deter the Marchies.
  10. I love that magpie!!! I can never get that sharp with my camera and 50mm not sure if it's the camera or lens. I put the macro on today. Here's a spider! and pretty little Zoey the Italian greyhound. She was watching a fly
  11. nah I dont think so. Most of my pics are flukes honest!
  12. I need to do something like this.
  13. Was that you who took a bite for the cause? Ouch! I would've flattened the bugger good for that!
  14. I think the reason they get scared of March flies is because they actually hurt when they bite. So even if you have repellent on your dogs the Marchies will still buzz around and distress them. March flies are attracted to blue and dark colours and hate reds, orange etc. I've found they go for my little blue whippet Kibah more than the fawn and brindles. What colours are your dogs. You could try putting a light cotton (so they dont get hot) red shirt on them or even a wide red collar might help. We usually have them bad here in Summer but strangely, last Summer I didn't see one although it was the worst season I remember for wasps. We also didn't get any bot flies, I dont know but I wonder if it is somehow related to the bush fires from the Summer before.
  15. Yeah her expression is pretty funny. I wish I'd got it in proper focus.
  16. Since I last wrote I had a good look at Penny after Trish reminded me of the neck injury in July. I can see her neck is not symmetrical, but when I said it to the vet yesterday he couldn't see it. I've taken a pic of it, I can see it here, can anyone else? Penny has had xrays which showed nothing but he only took one from the side, I wish he'd taken one from above like this pic. I am tempted to take my camera in and get him to look at this photo. Maybe then he can see it.
  17. She eats so fast you wont have time to scream.
  18. Yes!! yes!! critters! Off to google it now, I'm sure I recall a pic of it coming out of the toilet.
  19. Iggy Mums dog Peanut @ 1.4 on the 50mm and my beautiful water lily, it's just opened today. The other plants are azolla fern and milfoil. This is one of my water garden frog habitats. There's taddies in there now same again, the 50mm @ 1.4
  20. This photo reminds me of a monster from a movie about 25 years ago, I cant remember the movie but it had a very wide mouth and lots of little teeth, just like this!
  21. I'd probably go to DWI and buy a Canon 550 body for $716 + SD card $45, 50mm 1.8 $91, 70-300 f4-5.6 $509 plus about $60 postage. That takes you to about $1421. I think that would do for a while. I'd get the 50 1.8 cause it's cheap but works well in low light and takes great pics either portrait or just as a walk around lens. Just look at Becs photos, she only uses a 50mm. I'd go for the 70-300 cause it's got a good zoom range and seems a reasonable lens for the price. The 500D is $573, that would give you other options, or a bit of change. :p
  22. I love the swallows. then I scrolled down and thought "oooooh CHROME!"
