  1. Yeah I have to agree with Nekhbet. Sure it's not ideal but the breeder already refunded you once so it doesn't seem like they're a total scumbag! I don't see anything wrong with waiting till the pup is resold to get your money back.
  2. RIP Lulu. I'm glad it was a peaceful passing with her family around.
  3. I don't quite understand why you can't build a fenced in area? You can gave the ground levelled or build a staggered fence if it's really steep.
  4. Does she ever go outside? Why cant you train her to go outside?
  5. I agree you should just cut down the amount you feed and see how it goes :)
  6. Sorry to hear this kirty what a gorgeous boy
  7. I agree that purebreds may provide an amount of certainty re size and temperament but IME my cross breeds have had better temps than my purebreds, and I got them all as pups, so I don't think it's as simple as saying that a purebred will be better with kids etc. But yeah that's why a rescue dog/pup that has been fostered is also a good choice as you know a bit more about temp and personality.
  8. I think that's a great decision, I have had a few cross breeds and they've all been brilliant pets :) Good luck with your search and let us know how you go :)
  9. Yeah Mosley will obey the drop it command but Lili is a little pig and just eats whatever it is quicker :/
  10. I haven't seen it done but I understand your reasoning, having it there as protection for the socket. I would get your vets advice and go from there but I imagine he would be fine without it :)
  11. Lili will hide under the bed sometimes although she's normally a velcro dog. Mosley is more likely to be in a room on his own. I wouldn't really worry unless she's showing other behaviours you are concerned about or actively avoiding you all the time.
  12. A registered breeder does not breed crosses, most crosses come from backyard breeders or puppy mills. The ethical choices are rescue or a good breeder (check they're registered with your states canine council and that they do health testing and place importance on temperament) the listings on this site are a good place to start your research on a breeder and you can also do some research into rescues that work with your choice of breed or just small dogs in general. There are a few around just do a search online. I think a daily walk plus the usual attention, i.e. playing, training etc, would be fine for a Jack Russell :)
  13. He sounds very sweet :) I don't have much advice sorry but good luck with him, he might just take a bit longer to learn than a normal pup.
  14. Yeah my boy is the same. Greeting people entering is when he gets silly but when it's a child he is surprisingly very controlled, doesn't jump etc.
  15. If he is within the weight range give him the full chew :) I give my guys sentinel and have one at the bottom of the large dog weight range and one at the top so they both get a full chew.
  16. Having worked in shelters, if they refuse to accept surrenders people either let animals go free or kill them. I'm not comfortable with letting the guy with the litter of pups go home and bash them on the head. I don't think this will change despite education. Humans in general are getting more and more irresponsible and throwaway in all areas of life.
  17. Yep my boy is 50kg and very excitable and friendly. He LOVES kids but he is always very gentle and has never jumped etc when kids are around. The most he tries with kids/babies is to lick! We just supervise closely even if it means we sit with him and hold onto his collar to ensure he doesn't get silly. You could keep him on lead if you're worried. If he gets silly just separate for a while :)
  18. Mine got a new brush the other day but that's about it
  19. We only have two dogs and no plans for getting another at this stage but if we did we'd sort it out then. Probably by separating pup in opposite ends of the house or rooms as needed.
  20. Not at all. I think I was lucky but it's true so I'm not saying it to be smart. Frankly, I'm sick of those who can apparently magic their dogs into being good canine citizens. I think it's entirely likely both of you have had as many sleepless nights as those of us who are struggling. Everything I've read about house training says a dog won't be house trained in such a short space as three weeks. Frankly I don't care what you think  I can honestly say neither of my dogs as pups toileted in the house more than 2 or 3 times. And yes they did get taken out at night for a while, I didn't say I did nothing, just that it happened quickly without needing a crate. I wasn't judging anyone else with what I said, simply stating my experience with my current dogs so no need to get shirty for goodness sake. Believe what you like I don't need to convince anyone on a dog forum. I know how long it took.

  22. I agree. If I had dogs that had to be kept in crates due to fighting or the like, I'd rehome one.
