  1. I have an Anatolian x Maremma and the most he ever did when we brought him home at 11 weeks was growl when he was given a bone the first couple of times. It stopped very quickly and didn't escalate. This situation is worrying even for an LGD and if you are intending to keep the dog I would be seeing someone about it asap. Did you get the dog for working purposes or as a family pet?
  2. Absolutely! We have to make the choices we feel comfortable with and weigh up the pros and cons in each individual situation.
  3. There is an extra expense when an entire bitch gets sick - de-sexing a bitch means that she won't develop mammary cancer, Pyometra, uterine or ovarian cancer. Also, an "accidental" pregnancy costs money assuming the bitch is seen by a vet and the litter is looked after for both routine and emergency care. In males, leaving them entire puts them at risk of testicular cancer among other "complications". As a pet owner, I don't see any reason to take chances like that with my dogs' health...mine have always been de-sexed because I'm not a breeder and have no desire to become one. :) Desexing actually increases some cancers in dogs also so it's not that simple. Also isn't risking spey incontinence taking a chance with your pets health? No option is risk free, life isn't risk free.
  4. But that's exactly what I was saying? In circumstances like kavik mentioned, where there is no difference to the dog why not consider it? Better than just saying "NO" because its always been this way.
  5. So dramatic  As I said "if there are no associated health concerns"...so don't know why you're comparing it with changing the actual form as obviously that would have further effects on the function and health of the dog.
  6. I dont think so. Neither do I. I fail to see how allowing a certain colour with no associated health issues completely decimates an entire breed.
  7. How did the vet go ali? Hope he's feeling better :)
  8. Yep I never leave anything lying around. I always expect the worst from my two. So glad she's ok!
  9. I agree here. Unless there is a health issue associated with the colour I think it should be irrelevant.
  10. I've never used crates. The dogs sleep on their beds from pups (sometimes up on our bed) and as there's no novelty in being free, they just sleep  sorry I'm no help.
  11. This would be my choice. If there's no lock on the door you can be guaranteed at least a couple of drunks will go in there.
  12. The vet is a great idea. You could also advertise at a university nearby, lots of people see things at unis and can pass on the message. Good luck with it :)
  13. I cant see what the problem could be as it will be gone when you move out with no damage done to the property, but yes some landlords are weird so probably best to check
  14. Not in my experience. They seem to think shelter/rescue dogs should just be free but are happy to pay whatever the pet shop asks.
  15. I'll never understand this. People constantly complain about the price of shelter animals who come with all their vet work and temp tests, but then happily purchase an oodle with no vet work for double the price. Idiots.
  16. I agree here. If they really want an SBT I'd wait till the old boy has passed.
  17. Oh, yes Shitty Whippet figured out quite a while ago that she could use my chair to get up on my desk. And once up there.. oh, the things we can steal. She also figured out that the best time to do this stealing was when I was taking Idiot Dog out to the toilet- something which gives her a good five minutes to get up on the desk, pick something interesting, take it to her bed in the lounge room to hide and be back sitting innocently in the kitchen (as if she'd been patiently waiting for me the whole time) when I get back inside. He he he love it
  18. Lisa - going to Dusk today so if you can post a pic or get the actual name -- WINNING. I googled and managed to find the collection name but no picture "Active Air Collection" If you need something bigger than the car vent thingy I highly recommend the little gel beads. Yeah those beads are awesome!
  19. Yeah I agree. Sorry to sound harsh but you have a baby animal that needs comfort.
  20. Mosley is 6 and has just started getting some grey on his chin
  21. So awesome! OH and I want to go on a truffle hunting holiday one day!
