Do Male (Desexed) Dogs Stink Up Your Yard?
Dame Aussie replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
None of my dogs have stunk, entire or desexed, male or female. -
That is so awesome. What a legend.
-
Stick them all in jail and treat them the way they treated those dogs. Sickos

My Anatolian x sits like this all the time  It's adorable isn't it! Cracks me up. He just walks in and throws his butt up on the couch/bed/human and sits there like that for ages

I wondered this too. I had a few people tell me they didn't think it was a good idea to get my Anatolian x and he's perfect for us.

My boy is an Anatolian Maremma cross and never showed this type of behaviour. He is extremely protective of his people. I wouldn't say that type of aggression, especially so young is normal. They are a guarding breed, but it shouldn't be directed at the owners IMO.

How To Approach Breeders Listing Mature Dogs
Dame Aussie replied to McMiffy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't think you are doing a thing wrong. I would want to know these things too. I have only re homed a couple of older dogs, the eldest being about 18 months. I would like someone who asked these questions & gave info about their home situation & family. Any responsible breeder would desex the dog before letting it go to a new home but it is not mandatory. Registered breeders with the canine associations don't have to have a licence for a small number of dogs they just join the association for their state & agree to abide by the code of ethics. Keep trying & you will get replies from a breeder who suits you.Good luck. I agree. You can bet breeders would want to know a lot about you and your lifestyle if considering you as a potential owner, so I think it works both ways. I think it shows you're responsible in that you are giving them as much info about yourself as possible in order to see if you will be a good match for the dog. re being good with cats or not, if the breeder doesn't have them then they genuinely may not know and this is something you will need to assess the possible risks of before deciding on a dog. Desexing isn't mandatory though I would imagine most breeders would either desex the dog before rehoming or have you sign something to say you will have it done once you have the dog. Good luck. -
I haven't seen any bullying. Just differences of opinion, which is what a forum is for.

I found myself nodding my head at this statement. Yes, completely agree.

I agree with this having owned a Boxer. Not ideal for that amount of running IMO. You sound like a great home though and there are loads of other breeds that would be perfect.

Kennel Cough In The Environment
Dame Aussie replied to Sheridan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Lili has had it twice, vaccinated. She's always stayed her crazy self, just with that annoying cough! -
Sorry for your loss Sheridan RIP Mini.

Same here. Really happy with it.

Kennel Cough In The Environment

I wouldn't worry to be honest, I don't believe it's anything like parvo and hangs around that long but I'm sure someone will know more :) -
I know! I hear all these things and think geez I must have fluked it

I have an entire female for many of the same reasons you mention and haven't experienced any of the issues that are said to come with that. No escaping, no smell, literally no mess but I might just be lucky in that she is very clean, no dogs getting to her as she is always contained when in season, no temperament change etc. No issues at all, again maybe I'm just lucky? She's the first entire dog I've had so that's a possibility. However, if you have any concerns about being able to keep her contained during her season or other dogs getting to her, then desexing is probably the best option. I would only keep a female in season either in a run or inside, not in the yard unattended and 4 foot fences will be too low. I feel your frustration with vets as I've not found one yet that I could have a proper conversation with about this. It's just desex desex desex. Which is probably the best option for many pet owners, but if I can manage an entire dog I don't see why I should put them through major surgery and remove their natural hormones for my convenience. This is also not judging owners that desex as there are pros there also, I.e. avoiding pyo and mammary cancer, but what I wish vets would admit and discuss is that there are also cons associated with other cancers and things like spey incontinence. I need to find one of these vets dammit!

Ideas On What To Do?
Dame Aussie replied to Just Andrea's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Without any details there probably isn't much you can do but you could always inform the RSPCA/Police and leave it in their hands re checking hospitals. Did he tell you what area they're in? If it is true, and lets not pretend this stuff doesn't go on, it's very disturbing -
The wee terror!
-
I wouldn't train a dog to toilet inside, especially not in their crate, I don't use them but dogs don't like to toilet where they sleep naturally. I'd set up an area outside for toileting with fake grass or something similar :)
-
Yeah could have been some kind of creature that HAD to be chased!

Lili did this once, well kind of. We came home and she was sitting on the front doorstep. She had gotten between the fence and the gate as there was hair stuck there! The neighbour at the time was renovating and we guessed she had been scared by the noise - she can be quite flighty with noise - and had escaped and then freaked so sat there waiting for us to get home. Eejit. With Rosie jumping like that though I would be worried she will keep doing it just 'cause it's fun. Maybe pop up some lattice extenders on the fence or something similar?
